0:00:06 > 0:00:08Morning, guys, Martin here with how one part of

0:00:08 > 0:00:11America is coping with its biggest earthquake in 25 years on the way.

0:00:11 > 0:00:18Plus, could these hoverbikes be the future of high-tech travel?

0:00:18 > 0:00:19This

0:00:19 > 0:00:19This is

0:00:19 > 0:00:21This is Newsround.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22First, though, one of Britain's best sportsmen

0:00:22 > 0:00:26claims his own teammate crashed into him on purpose to get ahead in this

0:00:26 > 0:00:27year's Formula One championships.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Lewis Hamilton says that in a meeting after yesterday's Belgian

0:00:31 > 0:00:41Grand Prix, fellow Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg admitted deliberately

0:00:41 > 0:00:51the crash meant Hamilton had to pull out, while Rosberg finished second.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54If you have ever dreamed of scooting past the crowds on your

0:00:54 > 0:00:57way to school by gliding through the air, then just take a look at what

0:00:57 > 0:01:04experts are calling the hoverbike.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Is it a bird?

0:01:07 > 0:01:16No, it's actually an aerial drone.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20aviation to the next level.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22It's remote-controlled, and takes off, lands

0:01:22 > 0:01:26and flies just like a helicopter.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30But this is just a test model for something bigger and better.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34Ladies and gentlemen, the quadcopter hoverbike -

0:01:34 > 0:01:38a helicopter/bike/plane that can be piloted

0:01:38 > 0:01:41by a person or flown remotely.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43It's the idea of this guy, Chris Malloy.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47He's an engineer and pilot who says he wants to make

0:01:47 > 0:01:49a safer kind of helicopter.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52When I got my helicopter licence, I realised that the helicopter

0:01:52 > 0:01:55as a design has a lot of improvements to be made.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58My goal was to see where we could strip away the complexity

0:01:58 > 0:02:02and increase safety.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05The engineers hope to launch the smaller, unmanned version first,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09before trying to get the go-ahead for the full-sized hoverbike.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12They say it could help reach places normal choppers can't.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16The helicopter is inherently complex.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20The hoverbike is very simple.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22So it is safer.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23So, what's next?

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Well, they are putting the finishing touches to the final

0:02:26 > 0:02:31prototype, and will be looking to do test flights in a few months' time.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35OK, so arriving at a school on one of these is probably

0:02:35 > 0:02:39a little way off, but its inventors hope that one day, the quadcopter

0:02:39 > 0:02:44will be a thriving success.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46In other news, rescue crews in America are tackling the

0:02:46 > 0:02:49aftermath of the biggest earthquake to hit northern California

0:02:49 > 0:02:50in 25 years this morning.

0:02:50 > 0:02:5490 people have been injured in the US state and buildings,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58roads and bridges were all damaged when the major quake hit.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01It also caused fires and burst water mains and gas pipes.

0:03:01 > 0:03:07A state of emergency has been declared there.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Next, fans of one of Hollywood's biggest

0:03:11 > 0:03:14film directors have been getting a glimpse of the latest blockbuster

0:03:14 > 0:03:15being made right here in Britain.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Tim Burton, who made Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Alice In

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Wonderland, has started work on his new movie by transforming Gloucester

0:03:21 > 0:03:23docks into a magical wonderland.

0:03:23 > 0:03:28Here's Ricky.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Ancient ships.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Historical costumes...all living in a world

0:03:33 > 0:03:36that was dreamt up a very long time ago.

0:03:36 > 0:03:41But this fairytale is happening right now in Gloucester, in England.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44This is the film set for Tim Burton's latest

0:03:44 > 0:03:47Alice In Wonderland film, Alice Through The Looking Glass.

0:03:47 > 0:03:53The film stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57The set draws quite a crowd, but have they seen any of the stars yet?

0:03:57 > 0:03:59No.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01Seen a few extras, we think.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04Lots of pirates, as the kids say.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06So the big stars may not have arrived yet,

0:04:06 > 0:04:09but Disney and their big production has, and that's good news for

0:04:09 > 0:04:14Gloucester, because it helps promote the city and its major locations.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16I think it has some amazing historical properties.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19The cathedral is one, and you have the history of

0:04:19 > 0:04:20Harry Potter filming there.

0:04:20 > 0:04:25But also around the docks, there are amazing unspoiled areas, and that is

0:04:25 > 0:04:27what makes filming here so useful.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31The film is not due to hit the big screen for another couple of years,

0:04:31 > 0:04:34but if you are out and about in Gloucester this summer, have a look

0:04:34 > 0:04:37around, because you never know which famous face you might bump into.

0:04:37 > 0:04:42I'm sure I've seen that horse in another film before.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44And finally, thousands of people have turned out

0:04:44 > 0:04:47for the UK's biggest gaming festival in Coventry over the weekend.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50The event previews some of the top games out there,

0:04:50 > 0:04:53and also draws big crowds of people watching the best gamers

0:04:53 > 0:04:56battle it out against each other.

0:04:56 > 0:04:57That's all from me.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00Newsround is back this afternoon.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02Bye-bye.
