0:00:10 > 0:00:12Morning, guys!

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Martin here with your first Newsround of the day.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19First, we're heading to Italy, where rescue workers have been

0:00:20 > 0:00:21searching overnight for survivors, following Wednesday's earthquake

0:00:21 > 0:00:27which hit the centre of the country.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29More than 400 rescuers used heavy equipment and dug

0:00:29 > 0:00:33with their bare hands in search of people that had been trapped.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Over 200 people have died and many more have been injured as the work

0:00:36 > 0:00:38to find people continues into its second day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:47And remember, if there's anything in the news that upsets you,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48head to Newsround online.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Scientists have discovered the closest planet to Earth,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52outside our solar system where life could potentially exist.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Naz has been finding out more.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Take a look at the planet Proxima b.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58These pictures are artists' impressions of what this

0:00:58 > 0:01:01new world could look like.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05It's been discovered in another solar system four light years away -

0:01:05 > 0:01:09that's more than 25 trillion miles - but in space terms, this planet

0:01:09 > 0:01:13is practically our neighbour.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17It orbits around our nearest star called Proxima Centauri.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19It's roughly the same size as Planet Earth and,

0:01:19 > 0:01:24like our planet, scientists think it's a rocky, solid world.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27It's not known if life exists on Proxima b, but scientists say

0:01:27 > 0:01:31the temperature of the planet - not too hot or too cold -

0:01:31 > 0:01:36means liquid water could potentially exist.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39And where there's water, there's the possibility for life.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42That's a big discovery.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47There are hundreds of planets being discovered now every month,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50but this is a really special one, that's the nearest one.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52This happened once, it will not happen again.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Astronomers in South America made the discovery using a special

0:01:55 > 0:02:00instrument on a telescope operated by the European Southern Observatory

0:02:00 > 0:02:03in a desert in Chile.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Getting to Proxima b at the moment is pretty much mission impossible.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Even though it's the closest planet we've ever found,

0:02:08 > 0:02:13it would still take thousands of years to get there.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16But who knows?

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Maybe, if there's super-fast space craft in the future,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21it might be able to be reached in a human's lifetime.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24And until then, it's still a pretty amazing discovery for scientists

0:02:24 > 0:02:29to study and learn from.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38Next, two of the big stars in Rio were Jack Law, who won silver

0:02:38 > 0:02:40in the men's 3m diving event, and his partner Chris Mears,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42who teamed up to win the Men's Synchronized

0:02:42 > 0:02:433m Springboard.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45We asked you guys to send in your questions.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Here's what they said.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48COMMENTATOR: Here they go.

0:02:48 > 0:02:53Yes, come on! That is an Olympic medal for sure!

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Curling. Yeah.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04I think it's a pretty cool sport. Yeah.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06We love watching the Winter Olympics, especially when...

0:03:06 > 0:03:09The Winter Olympics is fantastic for us.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11We never watch any, like, Alpine sports, but curling, for us,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13it's a really cool sport.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15I just love the whole slide and glide thing,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17and the broom, it's really funny. It's really cool.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19We really enjoy watching it.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20Chris would the stone guy and I'd be the brusher guy,

0:03:26 > 0:03:27Er, yeah. It was odd.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29It was definitely odd. Wasn't worrying, though.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32We were told that it was safe, so we were OK, but you know,

0:03:32 > 0:03:36I've been diving for 14 years, and Chris has been diving for 16,

0:03:36 > 0:03:38and we've never seen that in our lives, so...

0:03:38 > 0:03:39But a green pool, that's ridiculous!

0:03:39 > 0:03:42But you know, we dealt with it really well and came away

0:03:42 > 0:03:44with a gold medal, so we're really happy.

0:03:44 > 0:03:45Not complaining.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52We do a lot of work with a psychologist,

0:03:52 > 0:03:54where they basically help to get our mind right

0:03:54 > 0:03:56on the day and come up with routines for us,

0:03:56 > 0:03:59so that, when we are in that kind of competitive zone

0:03:59 > 0:04:02at the Olympic Games, that we are able to hold our nerve

0:04:02 > 0:04:04under pressure and, yeah, it's something we're pretty good at.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09Yeah.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Both swimming when we were kids.

0:04:11 > 0:04:12We did.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15You know, if you learn to swim, that's a good

0:04:15 > 0:04:16first step, basically. It's a good start.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19And then, basically, it's just trying to find ...

0:04:19 > 0:04:21I guess, speak to your parents and try to scope out

0:04:21 > 0:04:24the nearest local diving pool. For me, it was half-an-hour away.

0:04:24 > 0:04:25It's really good fun and, if you can, then definitely start.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33That is a perfect place to start.

0:04:33 > 0:04:34Good question.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37Both of us started when we were seven years old.

0:04:37 > 0:04:38We did.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40I swum before and did a little spot of gymnastics,

0:04:40 > 0:04:42but nothing serious, really, and took up diving

0:04:42 > 0:04:44and now, 14 years later, I'm an Olympic gold medallist.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46You know, if you are as passionate about something,

0:04:46 > 0:04:49like diving as we are, then work hard and get through

0:04:49 > 0:04:51the hard training sessions and end up with these.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55Yeah, pretty good.

0:04:55 > 0:04:56That's all from me.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59Newsround's back in about half an hour.

0:04:59 > 0:05:00Goodbye.
