:00:24. > :00:28.Good evening team CBBC, Leah and Ricky with you this Thursday.

:00:28. > :00:32.One have given us 7 minutes to get you guys up to date with the very

:00:32. > :00:37.latest. Coming up... Find out what Kermit was handing out to Ant and

:00:38. > :00:47.Dec. And I've been protecting planes with a high-tech human

:00:47. > :00:50.scarecrow. But first to the growing row between the British and

:00:50. > :00:52.Argentinian governments over who owns a small group of islands in

:00:52. > :00:55.the South Atlantic called the Falklands. Protesters have been

:00:55. > :00:58.taking to the streets of Argentina after our Prime Minister, David

:00:58. > :01:01.Cameron, criticised their continued efforts to regain control of the

:01:01. > :01:05.islands. In April, it'll be 30 years since the Falklands War but

:01:05. > :01:07.the row between the two countries shows no sign of going away.

:01:07. > :01:10.British flag burning in the streets of Argentina's capital, Buenos

:01:10. > :01:13.Aires, a sign of just how passionately many people here still

:01:13. > :01:16.feel about the Falklands Islands. Boats from the islands have been

:01:16. > :01:26.banned from landing in Argentina and some other South American

:01:26. > :01:26.

:01:26. > :01:30.countries, including Brazil. The Argentines say the Falklands, which

:01:30. > :01:35.they call Las Malvinas, belong to them, not Britain and say they were

:01:35. > :01:38.wrongly taken off them in the early 1800s. They even teach children in

:01:38. > :01:40.their first year of primary school that the islands are Argentinian

:01:40. > :01:47.despite the Falkland Islanders considering themselves to be

:01:47. > :01:50.British. Today the Falklands are a peaceful and pretty place. But 30

:01:50. > :01:57.years ago, these rugged islands were a battleground where over 900

:01:57. > :02:03.people died. It was in 1982, after the Argentine Navy invaded the

:02:03. > :02:07.islands that a short but brutal conflict began. British and

:02:07. > :02:11.Argentinian troops fought in the air, at sea and on foot for three

:02:11. > :02:18.months before Britain finally declared victory. But why is

:02:18. > :02:21.Argentina so excited about the islands again? Well, one of the

:02:21. > :02:25.reasons could be that oil's been discovered off the coast of the

:02:25. > :02:28.Falklands that might be worth a lot of money to whoever owns them. But

:02:28. > :02:34.the British government says as long as the islanders want to remain

:02:34. > :02:36.British, they'll be looked after. Although there's a lot of anger in

:02:37. > :02:39.both Argentina and Britain, that doesn't mean the two countries

:02:39. > :02:43.would go to war again. Both countries' armed forces are less

:02:43. > :02:47.powerful than they were and it would cost a huge amount of money.

:02:47. > :02:53.But as the 30th anniversary of the war approaches, for people on the

:02:53. > :02:56.island it remains a very tense and uneasy time. A British soldier who

:02:56. > :03:00.lost an arm when he was badly injured in Afghanistan has become

:03:00. > :03:04.the first serviceman to use a new bionic arm. Andrew had six hours of

:03:04. > :03:10.surgery at a hospital in Austria to be fitted with the arm that he will

:03:10. > :03:14.be able to control with his brain. He can now rotate his new hand 360

:03:14. > :03:17.degrees. Amazing stuff. Next, to the injured British servicemen who

:03:17. > :03:21.have been rowing across the Atlantic. We've been following

:03:21. > :03:24.their journey and they've done it after 51 days at sea. The six-man

:03:24. > :03:28.team battled a number of setbacks, including nearly running out of

:03:28. > :03:36.drinking water. When they arrived in Barbados they were greeted by

:03:37. > :03:40.friends and family and even got a message from the Queen. Now it's

:03:40. > :03:44.almost impossible to get Dr Who, The X Factor and Strictly Come

:03:44. > :03:47.Dancing gang all in the same room. But tell them a few awards are up

:03:47. > :03:50.for grabs and you'll have them rushing to the The O2 Arena. Last

:03:50. > :04:00.night it was packed with TV's hottest talent for the National

:04:00. > :04:08.Television Awards. The Awards opened with a light-hearted song

:04:08. > :04:18.and shuffle from Ant, Dec and TV legend Bruce Forsyth. Let there be

:04:18. > :04:18.

:04:18. > :04:21.bristly. So Bruce to you! Brucie! But away from the stage TV

:04:21. > :04:25.stars were ready to do battle. Unlike other awards like the Baftas

:04:25. > :04:28.and Brits the winners are chosen by viewers at home. Here's the rundown

:04:28. > :04:31.of the winners... Doctor Who's dream team Karen Gillan and Matt

:04:31. > :04:34.Smith both picked gongs for best actor. The X Factor won best talent

:04:34. > :04:41.show and Gary Barlow was given an Outstanding Contributor Award.

:04:41. > :04:44.award is absolutely fantastic. David Wallliams won an award for

:04:44. > :04:52.swimming the length of the Thames and was given a standing ovation

:04:53. > :04:55.But get this. As well as winning an award for "I'm a Celebrity"

:04:55. > :04:58.presenter double act Ant and Dec took home Best Entertainment

:04:58. > :05:02.Presenters for the 11th year running, proving the nation still

:05:02. > :05:05.can't get enough of the cheeky geordie duo. Now did you know that

:05:05. > :05:08.birds can cause major problems at airports? If they get in the way of

:05:08. > :05:11.the aeroplanes they can cause serious damage. That's why a team

:05:11. > :05:15.of experts known as high-tech scarecrows make it their mission to

:05:15. > :05:23.keep our feathered friends off the runway. I went to Manchester

:05:23. > :05:28.airport to find out more. Is it a bird, is it a plane? Manchester

:05:28. > :05:32.Airport it can sometimes be both. Birds can cause disruption for

:05:32. > :05:36.aeroplanes, if they hit engines they can stop working. Nearly three

:05:36. > :05:40.years ago a plane above New York had to land in a nearby river, a

:05:40. > :05:45.flock of geese collided with the engine, causing them to fail.

:05:45. > :05:49.Thanks to the pilot everybody survived. Luckily, this hardly ever

:05:49. > :05:53.happens. To prevent birds from striking the planes when they land

:05:53. > :05:58.and take of Manchester Airport had a special team at which keep the

:05:58. > :06:03.runway say. To dare have come to watch Gerry, the man when it comes

:06:03. > :06:07.to scaring off birds! - Madrid today I have come. We make sure

:06:07. > :06:12.nothing goes wrong and that there are no problems, if we were not out

:06:12. > :06:18.there doing that then they could be problems. Jerry's main weapon is a

:06:18. > :06:23.car with loudspeakers, playing the sound effects of birds. That scares

:06:23. > :06:26.off the real ones. In the most extreme cases Gerry has to fire a

:06:26. > :06:34.gun, a really loud noise which scares of the birds. Don't worry,

:06:34. > :06:37.they are not real bullets, just warning shots. While 300 flights

:06:37. > :06:42.take-off every day and land at Manchester, Gerry has had some

:06:42. > :06:46.strange visitors, like a Flamengo. That hung around for quite a while

:06:46. > :06:52.and stopped aircraft coming in and departing for a while. But he never

:06:52. > :06:56.gives up his battle of the skies. Bird strikes hardly ever happen and

:06:56. > :07:00.when you have people like Gerry here doing a fantastic job you know

:07:00. > :07:04.you are in safe hands. Nice wheels. What else did you

:07:04. > :07:09.find? Nothing else but they did tell us just before Christmas a dog

:07:09. > :07:12.ended up on the runway causing disruption! Tennis next and Rafa

:07:12. > :07:16.Nadal has beaten Roger Federer to reach the final of the Australian

:07:16. > :07:22.Open. Nadal took the match in four sets, coming back from one set down,

:07:22. > :07:26.in just under four hours. He'll now face either Andy Murray or Novak

:07:26. > :07:30.Djokovic, who play tomorrow. we've got some dramatic footage

:07:30. > :07:33.that we just have to share with you. Take a look at this. An ice hockey

:07:33. > :07:36.team escaped unhurt after the roof of their skating rink collapsed

:07:36. > :07:43.just seconds after they finished their training session on the ice.

:07:43. > :07:46.The ceiling caved in because too much snow had fallen on top of it.
