:00:22. > :00:26.Good evening and welcome to the sunniest March Newsround for a

:00:26. > :00:29.blooming long time! Yep, I'm Ricky and she's Hayley and here's what's

:00:29. > :00:39.coming up: I'll have the low-down on the sunny weather and how long

:00:39. > :00:39.

:00:39. > :00:47.it's going to last. And we will be telling you about what happened

:00:47. > :00:49.here. But first, he may be the man behind

:00:49. > :00:52.Hollywood blockbusters Avatar and Titanic but film director, James

:00:52. > :00:55.Cameron, has reached new heights, or rather depths with his latest

:00:55. > :00:59.venture. Yes we've been telling you about his plan to take a one-man

:00:59. > :01:02.sub to the deepest point in the ocean and poke around in one of the

:01:02. > :01:05.most secret parts of the planet. And he's done it! Take a look.

:01:05. > :01:07.Pilot coming out! No wonder he's happy, Hollywood film director,

:01:07. > :01:13.James Cameron, has just returned from the deepest part of the

:01:13. > :01:16.world's ocean. Challenger Deep. Challenger Deep is in the huge

:01:16. > :01:19.Mariana trench at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, about 200 miles

:01:20. > :01:23.South West of the island of Guam. It's nearly 11,000 metres deep.

:01:23. > :01:27.That's the same as stacking 115 Big Bens on top of each other - that's

:01:27. > :01:34.a lot of Big Bens! It took James Cameron and his special one-man sub,

:01:34. > :01:37.Deepsea Challenger, two hours to reach the bottom. Man it's a long

:01:37. > :01:40.way down, when you go past Titanic, then you got past Bismarck, then go

:01:40. > :01:46.past where the mirrors can go and still only halfway there, two

:01:46. > :01:50.thirds of the way there. travelling so far underwater can be

:01:50. > :01:54.dangerous. This is only the second time a manned craft has explored

:01:55. > :01:58.these dark depths, the first time was over 50 years ago. The weight

:01:58. > :02:02.of all the water on top of him puts his sub under a lot of pressure.

:02:02. > :02:06.It's like feeling the weight of a small family car resting on your

:02:06. > :02:09.fingernail. Never nice. The Hollywood director is a bit of a

:02:09. > :02:12.submarine geek and has taken the plunge for a new 3D documentary.

:02:13. > :02:16.His sub was kitted out with all sort of hi-tech lights and cameras

:02:16. > :02:20.but it's not clear what he was expecting to find during his three

:02:21. > :02:24.hours on the ocean floor. Sunlight can't reach past depths of 1000

:02:24. > :02:27.metres, so it's very dark but he might have seen a few of these

:02:27. > :02:31.prawn-like amphipods down there at the bottom. But whatever he's seen,

:02:31. > :02:34.his images of the ocean floor should be incredible viewing. But

:02:34. > :02:44.don't expect to see Kate and Leo acting their way around Challenger

:02:44. > :02:44.

:02:44. > :02:48.Deep anytime soon. I love you, Jack. The sun's shining - more on that

:02:48. > :02:52.later. So time for a bit of cricket and in the opening day of their

:02:52. > :02:55.two-test series, Sri Lanka have kept England on their toes. England

:02:55. > :03:01.started well, taking eight quick wickets but an amazing unbeaten 168

:03:01. > :03:04.from Mahela Jayawardene, means Sri Lanka are now on 289-8.

:03:04. > :03:07.Three people have had to be rescued from a hot air balloon after they

:03:07. > :03:10.accidentally flew it straight into power lines and got tangled up. The

:03:10. > :03:17.balloonists were left dangling for five hours while the electricity

:03:17. > :03:21.was turned off. No-one was hurt in the accident in Northamptonshire.

:03:21. > :03:24.Now you may have noticed it's been a bit warm recently. Oh yes, it's

:03:24. > :03:27.felt like a little bit of summer has landed in March. It's about

:03:27. > :03:31.twice the temperature it usually would be at this time of year and

:03:31. > :03:35.in Scotland they had the hottest March day on record yesterday.

:03:35. > :03:38.So is this warm spell good news and will it last? I've been back to my

:03:38. > :03:41.lovely Blackpool to find out Most of the country was bathed in

:03:42. > :03:48.sun this weekend from the South of England to the north of Scotland

:03:48. > :03:53.where records for March have been smashed! In Aberdeenshire, it

:03:53. > :03:56.topped 22.8 degrees Celsius yesterday! These are the type of

:03:56. > :03:59.temperatures we'd expect in the summer but it's still March and

:03:59. > :04:09.this weekend the weather was hotter in the UK than it was in Barcelona

:04:09. > :04:10.

:04:10. > :04:14.in Spain! And so many people have been making the most of it. It has

:04:14. > :04:20.been really nice because you get to play out more and do more stuff

:04:20. > :04:25.than in winter. You can do more stuff outside. You can play

:04:26. > :04:30.football and rugby. If it was raining, you cannot play it. And it

:04:30. > :04:33.has been very sweaty, to heart. Well, you can stay playing outside

:04:33. > :04:41.for a bit longer boys as these summer temperatures are expected to

:04:41. > :04:51.continue. Temperatures will stay warm for the next few days but be

:04:51. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :04:57.cooler by Thursday. By the weekend we will see the last of it.

:04:57. > :05:00.Temperatures will be where they should be for the time of the year.

:05:00. > :05:03.But in some parts of the country the hot weather is causing problems.

:05:03. > :05:06.Reservoirs in the south east of England are so empty there'll be

:05:06. > :05:10.hosepipe bans from the beginning of next month. But here in Blackpool

:05:10. > :05:13.the weather is good news all round! Joe here has sold ten times as many

:05:13. > :05:16.ice creams as usual and there have been more people enjoying the

:05:16. > :05:19.tourist attractions. But next week the weather will probably be back

:05:19. > :05:24.to normal March temperatures, so I'm going to make the most of it

:05:24. > :05:27.while I can. Tough assignment that, Hayley!

:05:27. > :05:37.We've been asking you what you've been making of the hot weather.

:05:37. > :05:41.

:05:41. > :05:51.Natasha, from Swindon, says: And Archie, from London, has joined

:05:51. > :05:51.

:05:52. > :05:54.lots of others at the beach. He A Japanese fishing boat that swept

:05:54. > :05:57.away in last year's devastating tsunami has been spotted off the

:05:57. > :06:00.west coast of Canada. It's drifted without a crew for almost 4,500

:06:00. > :06:04.miles across the sea and was spotted by coastguards, who'll

:06:04. > :06:07.follow it to make sure it doesn't get in the way of other ships.

:06:07. > :06:13.Millions of tonnes of debris will reach land eventually but this is

:06:13. > :06:16.by far the largest bit found so far. Kids across the UK have been

:06:16. > :06:19.learning more about the lives of children in Africa with the help of

:06:19. > :06:22.a charity called 'SOS Children'. They've helped orphans film and

:06:23. > :06:25.write about their everyday lives and post it online. And kids over

:06:26. > :06:34.here have discovered that they've got a lot in common with young

:06:34. > :06:38.people in Africa. What is great about Africa is you are learning

:06:38. > :06:43.about children in Africa, what they have for breakfast, what they do in

:06:43. > :06:46.their daily lives and what they like to do. They can relate to

:06:46. > :06:48.children who are miles away from them.

:06:48. > :06:51.Finally, what happens when thousands of Doctor Who fans all

:06:51. > :06:54.head to Cardiff? You get the show's first ever official convention of

:06:54. > :07:02.course! Fans have been meeting all the heroes and villains from the

:07:02. > :07:05.show, plus Matt Smith and Karen Gillan even showed up!

:07:05. > :07:15.That's it for now, but check out the website for a look at a new

:07:15. > :07:22.
