:00:22. > :00:24.Hello guys. I'm Ore, he's Joe and you're live with Newsround this

:00:24. > :00:31.Thursday afternoon. We've got some special stuff on the way,

:00:31. > :00:34.including: Meeting the man jumping off the edge of space. And

:00:34. > :00:44.first to an international story that involves war, diamonds and

:00:44. > :00:47.

:00:47. > :00:49.child soldiers. Today, the former leader of Liberia, a country in

:00:49. > :00:54.West Africa, was found guilty of war crimes in neighbouring Sierra

:00:54. > :00:57.Leone. Charles Taylor was accused of helping arm rebels - many of

:00:57. > :01:00.them children - so they could carry out brutal attacks on millions of

:01:00. > :01:10.people during a civil war that lasted more than a decade. Ricky's

:01:10. > :01:11.

:01:11. > :01:14.These are the victims, and these are the young soldiers who were

:01:14. > :01:16.forced to spread terror throughout Sierra Leone. This was no ordinary

:01:16. > :01:19.war. Children were recruited by a rebel group called the

:01:19. > :01:22.Revolutionary United Front and given no choice but to leave their

:01:22. > :01:26.families and fight for control of the country. Ruled by fear, they

:01:26. > :01:29.took part in a violent civil war that killed more than 50,000 people.

:01:29. > :01:33.They had to fight, guard diamond mines and even cut off the hands

:01:33. > :01:43.and feet of people who tried to stop them. Edward was attacked by

:01:43. > :01:45.

:01:46. > :01:49.rebels. If I do not breathe the free air that we breathe, I will be

:01:49. > :01:52.happy. This man, Charles Taylor, supported the rebels and gave them

:01:52. > :01:54.the weapons in exchange for diamonds. At the time, he was

:01:54. > :01:57.leader of the neighbouring country, Liberia. Today, after a trial

:01:57. > :02:00.lasting nearly five years, he was found guilty of 11 different war

:02:00. > :02:02.crimes, including helping gangs murder civilians. But the judge

:02:02. > :02:07.said Charles Taylor wasn't directly responsible for what happened in

:02:07. > :02:10.Sierra Leone. Leaders from around the world were so shocked by the

:02:10. > :02:13.violence that they agreed to help Sierra Leone to punish those

:02:13. > :02:16.responsible. Taylor's crimes were committed in Africa, but his

:02:16. > :02:26.trial's been held in the Netherlands, and he could end up in

:02:26. > :02:27.

:02:27. > :02:32.jail here in the UK. Although the war in Sierra Leone ended in 2002,

:02:32. > :02:36.if effects of the war are still being felt today. What's the

:02:36. > :02:43.lasting impact of the war there? affected children, children who

:02:43. > :02:48.were put into the Army to fight. They were given guns. It has had a

:02:48. > :02:51.very deep impact on the lives of young people in the region.

:02:51. > :02:54.It will take weeks for the court to decide how Taylor will be punished,

:02:54. > :02:58.but it will be much longer before people here in Sierra Leone can

:02:58. > :03:01.forget the effects of his crimes. Back in the UK - The Queen is used

:03:01. > :03:04.to meeting all kinds of important people, but even she looked a

:03:04. > :03:08.little nervous when she came face to face with the Grand Slam-winning

:03:09. > :03:13.Welsh rugby team today. It was part of a two-day Diamond jubilee tour

:03:13. > :03:18.of Wales. She also met these excited school kids and took part

:03:18. > :03:21.in a special church service at Llandaff Cathedral.

:03:21. > :03:24.Next - being so high up that you're on the edge of our planet's

:03:25. > :03:28.atmosphere is scary enough. But then imagine jumping out of a plane

:03:29. > :03:31.and hurtling towards Earth at top speeds! Crazy, right? Well, not if

:03:31. > :03:41.you're one adventurer looking to freefall from space and break a

:03:41. > :03:43.

:03:43. > :03:49.special world record. Nel's been to meet him. Even jumping from the

:03:49. > :03:59.smallest heights can be scary. Well, for one man it's the higher the

:03:59. > :04:02.

:04:02. > :04:07.This is Felix Baumgartner and later this year he'll be attempting to

:04:07. > :04:12.break the skydiving world record by jumping from the edge of the

:04:12. > :04:18.Earth's atmosphere, 23 miles above the ground. It sounds crazy but

:04:18. > :04:23.he's not the only one who doesn't have a fear of heights. Back in

:04:23. > :04:28.1960 Colonel Joe Kittinger fell from 19-and-a-half miles above the

:04:28. > :04:34.ground to set the current skydiving record. What was it like in that

:04:35. > :04:40.split second before you jumped? It was what I had worked for for two

:04:40. > :04:46.years. The only thing in my mind was doing the jump. Felix, why are

:04:46. > :04:51.you jumping toff edge of the earth? I always wanted to fly like

:04:51. > :04:57.Superman. The easiest way to do that is to become a skydiver.

:04:57. > :05:02.licks have to use scientifically- designed equipment because he is

:05:02. > :05:06.jumping from such a great height. We think the first 30 seconds we

:05:07. > :05:12.will break the speed of sound, 700 miles per hour. The only fear I

:05:12. > :05:16.have is that I mist the earth. Feast your eyes thon lot.

:05:16. > :05:19.Over the last two weeks, hundreds of you have been in touch with your

:05:19. > :05:23.ideas for a new kind of superhero. It's all because Iron Man, The Hulk

:05:23. > :05:25.and Thor - just to name a few comic book characters - are taking over

:05:25. > :05:28.the big screen in "Avengers Assemble". It's the biggest

:05:28. > :05:34.superhero team-up ever, but the stars of the movie are so impressed

:05:35. > :05:42.with your designs that some of them want your heros in their team! This

:05:42. > :05:47.week in the cinemas its buy one superhero get five free. We asked

:05:47. > :05:51.tow design your own superhere oevements we had so many he to get

:05:51. > :05:58.random selection man in to select six. Here's what the movie stars

:05:58. > :06:04.thought of them. This one was done by Grace. Wow! Look another that.

:06:04. > :06:11.That's amazing. Chris, this is one for you. They think this could be

:06:11. > :06:18.your next character. Muelty- coloured Muscle Man -- multi-

:06:18. > :06:22.coloured Muscle Man, designed by Lily. That's awesome. Thank you.

:06:22. > :06:32.you two are senior agents in the organisation that brings together

:06:32. > :06:37.

:06:38. > :06:43.the superheroes, this is an Abominator. He has an enchanted

:06:43. > :06:49.bombing knocker. Who doesn't want one of those! And this is Claw us.

:06:50. > :06:54.What have I to fear? The Avengers. That's what we call ourselves.

:06:54. > :06:59.did the supervillain of the film cower at the sight of your

:06:59. > :07:06.superheroes? Flame is the superhero I'm most afraid of. But I would

:07:06. > :07:13.like to recruit Doughnut girl, because I think in this film, if

:07:13. > :07:18.Loki was teamed one Doughnut Girl it would be a different story.

:07:18. > :07:22.Keep on drawing, because the world always needs superheroes and you

:07:22. > :07:25.never know where your doodles could take you.

:07:25. > :07:29.There's loads more Avengers fun on the Newsround website, including my

:07:29. > :07:32.review of the movie. Sticking with movies, a ten-minute

:07:32. > :07:35.preview clip of the new Hobbit film has been released. Director Peter

:07:35. > :07:38.Jackson used special cameras that capture twice as much detail as

:07:38. > :07:42.normal ones. But some critics say it makes the scenes look like low

:07:42. > :07:45.budget telly! Ouch. The movie's out in December.

:07:45. > :07:48.Now, how about this for a once-in- a-lifetime shot? This guy from an

:07:48. > :07:51.Estonian basketball team scored from the sideline with this amazing
