0:00:04 > 0:00:06Good morning, Ayshah here bringing you Thursday's

0:00:06 > 0:00:08stories with Newsround.

0:00:08 > 0:00:09Coming up...

0:00:09 > 0:00:13Meet the new arrival at Dallas Zoo and we take a look at these

0:00:13 > 0:00:18stunning florescent fish.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30First this morning, Prime Minister David Cameron wants

0:00:30 > 0:00:31people to decide whether the UK should stay in, or leave

0:00:32 > 0:00:36an important club of countries in Europe called the European Union.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40Let's take a really quick look at what it's all about.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42The European Union in 60 seconds.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45In 1973, people dressed like this.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48They ruled the charts and Newsround was only one year old.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51And that's when the UK joined what is now known

0:00:51 > 0:00:53as the European Union or EU.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57It's a club of 28 countries from around Europe will work together.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59This is its symbol.

0:00:59 > 0:01:05It's got its own parliament, its own anthem and its own money

0:01:05 > 0:01:08the euro, used by most of its members but not the UK.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Countries join the EU because they think it will help

0:01:10 > 0:01:13bring Europe closer together but now British Prime Minister David Cameron

0:01:13 > 0:01:17has promised to hold a vote on whether or not UK should stay

0:01:17 > 0:01:19in or leave the EU.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23Supporters of the EU think the UK is stronger as part of it.

0:01:23 > 0:01:27That's because we buy and sell a lot of things with European countries.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31People who want to leave the EU say it forces too many rules on Britain.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33They say leaving will give British people more control over

0:01:33 > 0:01:36issues like immigration.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39It will be up to adults around the UK to decide what's best

0:01:39 > 0:01:42when they vote this summer.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45So, that's what the EU or European Union is.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48But do you have any questions about the vote or the union itself?

0:01:48 > 0:01:51If so, then we want you to get in touch.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54BBC Europe expert Katya Adler will be here this afternoon

0:01:54 > 0:02:00to answer as many of your questions as she can, so go online now.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Next, thousands of children have been affected by the ongoing war

0:02:04 > 0:02:06in Syria in the Middle East.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Many have been forced to leave the country -

0:02:08 > 0:02:12and some have even become separated from their families

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Omar is one of them.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17He made the dangerous journey on boat, train, bus and foot -

0:02:17 > 0:02:22all the way from Syria to Calais in France.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24This is Omar's story through pictures.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33You could see the sunshine rising up the hills.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36I was coming home from my uncle's house.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39All of a sudden, there was a jet.

0:02:39 > 0:02:45We'd seen many of them.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Even kids as young as two could tell if there was a particular kind

0:02:48 > 0:02:51of plane or helicopter.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56I could hear explosions all around me and jets

0:02:56 > 0:03:03whistling as they flew by.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05When they dropped a barrel bomb, nobody would dare

0:03:05 > 0:03:08to watch where they fell.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11If it were not for the war, I would not have left Syria.

0:03:11 > 0:03:18I got on a boat for the first time.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20We reached the middle of the sea and the engine

0:03:20 > 0:03:23made this strange noise.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27And it broke down.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Everybody was scared.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33But then we saw two dolphins, and for a moment, we forgot

0:03:33 > 0:03:39about the dinghy.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42It took an hour to fix the engine before we could

0:03:42 > 0:03:48continue with our journey.

0:03:48 > 0:03:54I left Syria and took a boat from Turkey to Greece.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57From there, I travelled by boat and train and I walked

0:03:57 > 0:04:01until I reached Calais.

0:04:01 > 0:04:09I've been stuck here in the Calais jungle for three and a half months.

0:04:09 > 0:04:17There's no way out unless somebody helps you.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21I left Syria to go and live with my family over in Britain.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25It's been so long since I saw them.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28I want to live just like everyone else.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34And to bring you up to date, Omar is still in France,

0:04:34 > 0:04:35living in the Calais jungle.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37He's receiving support to try and legally reunite him

0:04:37 > 0:04:39with his family here in the UK.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Omar hopes he'll be here in time to start school in September.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44You can find out more about the jungle camp

0:04:44 > 0:04:45in Calais online.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47It wouldn't be Newsround without a quick round-up of some top

0:04:47 > 0:04:49animal stories today.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53To Dallas zoo in Texas in America, where they're celebrating the birth

0:04:53 > 0:04:56of a new African elephant weighing a whopping 79 kilograms.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Keepers say the calf, who's still not been named,

0:04:58 > 0:05:01will now spend time bonding with his mother and the rest

0:05:01 > 0:05:04of the other elephants before he goes on show to the public.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06And staying in the U.S, three one-month-old wolf puppies

0:05:06 > 0:05:09have also made their debut at a Zoo near Chicago.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12The Mexican grey wolf puppies were born last month but have just

0:05:12 > 0:05:13emerged from their den.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Two other pups born in the same litter have been placed with a wild

0:05:16 > 0:05:19wolf pack in the state of Arizona as part of a conservation effort

0:05:19 > 0:05:25to save the species in the wild.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26And get a load of these stunning GloFish.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29These bio-flourescent fish have been specially bred to glow

0:05:29 > 0:05:30different colours.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32They were originally created about 10 years ago by scientists

0:05:32 > 0:05:35who wanted to detect pollutants in the water where the fish's

0:05:35 > 0:05:37scales would glimmer if the water contained toxins.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39Now having bred and inherited the bright colours, they're proving
