0:00:27 > 0:00:30So, the general election is just under two weeks away
0:00:30 > 0:00:34and that's when millions of adults across the UK get to vote
0:00:34 > 0:00:36for the party they want to be in charge of the government.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39But what is the government?
0:00:39 > 0:00:40What's an election and a party?
0:00:40 > 0:00:44Well, here's Ricky to explain.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47It's almost time for the general election!
0:00:47 > 0:00:50It doesn't sound like the most exciting thing in the world
0:00:50 > 0:00:53but it is a huge deal and over the next few weeks,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55you're probably going to hear a lot of...
0:00:55 > 0:00:56This election...
0:00:56 > 0:00:58General election... General election...
0:00:58 > 0:00:59A bit of this...
0:00:59 > 0:01:00MPs... The Government...
0:01:00 > 0:01:02And almost certainly a few...
0:01:02 > 0:01:03The general election... Vote...
0:01:03 > 0:01:04Government...
0:01:04 > 0:01:06So, strap in and listen up and let me
0:01:06 > 0:01:09try and explain what those words actually mean.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11First up, the election.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14Well, a general election usually happens every five years,
0:01:14 > 0:01:16but not always.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19It's when people get to decide who should form a
0:01:19 > 0:01:20Government and run the country.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23Next, the Prime Minister.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26He or she is head of the Government here in the UK.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28That person is responsible for most of the big decisions
0:01:28 > 0:01:30that affect your lives.
0:01:30 > 0:01:31They're in charge of the Government.
0:01:31 > 0:01:37And it's usually formed by the party that wins the election.
0:01:37 > 0:01:39Hey-hey!
0:01:39 > 0:01:40No.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41Not that kind of party.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43You won't find cake and sausage rolls here.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46In politics, a party is a group of people
0:01:46 > 0:01:48who share the same ideas.
0:01:48 > 0:01:49There are quite a few parties.
0:01:49 > 0:01:54That takes us on to MPs or Members of Parliament.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56In fact, there are 650 of them in total.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Their job is to look after the people in their constituency
0:01:59 > 0:02:03and that's the area where people voted for them.
0:02:03 > 0:02:07Those MPs also work in the Houses of Parliament which is where
0:02:07 > 0:02:09new laws and ideas on the way the country should be run
0:02:09 > 0:02:11get talked about.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14On election day, if you're 18 or over, you'll get to vote.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16That means you get to choose who you want
0:02:16 > 0:02:19to be your MP, the person who speaks in Parliament
0:02:19 > 0:02:21for the area where you live.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24But this is nothing like voting for the X Factor
0:02:24 > 0:02:26or Strictly Come Dancing.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28There is no app, you can't use your mobile phone
0:02:28 > 0:02:31and you only have one vote.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34You mark an X on a piece of paper at a polling station
0:02:34 > 0:02:37which is usually inside a school.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39So that means, on the day of the general election,
0:02:39 > 0:02:42loads of you get the day off!
0:02:42 > 0:02:43So, there you have it.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04He says the event is a chance to show the world the UK is united
0:03:04 > 0:03:08following the attack in the city on Monday.
0:03:08 > 0:03:10These events are the ones that we need.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13We need to show that it doesn't stop us.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15You know, and I think that's what we show great
0:03:15 > 0:03:18in this country and I think that's what we do a great job of
0:03:18 > 0:03:21is that we will wake up the next day, we will get on
0:03:21 > 0:03:24with our lives, we will stand up, we will go to our jobs,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26we will turn up to events
0:03:26 > 0:03:30and we will show our support together.
0:03:30 > 0:03:31Next up and it's the oldest competition
0:03:31 > 0:03:33in international sport, arguably one of the most
0:03:33 > 0:03:34difficult trophies to win.
0:03:34 > 0:03:36The America's Cup is the most famous sailing event
0:03:36 > 0:03:39in the world and guess what - it's back this weekend.
0:03:39 > 0:03:43In its 166-year history, it's never been won by a British team
0:03:43 > 0:03:47but Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie is looking to break
0:03:47 > 0:03:51the curse and lead his team team to a first victory.
0:03:51 > 0:03:54For everyone in this team, it would be the biggest achievement
0:03:54 > 0:04:00if we can pull this off, if we can win the America's Cup for Britain.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02You know, look at our sporting maritime heritage,
0:04:02 > 0:04:03it's the one thing that's missing.
0:04:03 > 0:04:05It would be huge.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08And it's the World Surfing Games right now in France
0:04:08 > 0:04:10with surfers from more than 40 countries taking part.
0:04:10 > 0:04:12That's a lot of people.
0:04:12 > 0:04:13But how do you score in surfing?
0:04:13 > 0:04:16Well, it's not about being the fastest to the finish line,
0:04:16 > 0:04:17or the most goals scored.
0:04:17 > 0:04:20So how do you win?
0:04:20 > 0:04:23To win at surfing, you have to impress a panel of judges,
0:04:23 > 0:04:26but what are they looking for?
0:04:26 > 0:04:28Difficulty.
0:04:28 > 0:04:32Surfers get rewarded for picking big, steep, challenging waves
0:04:32 > 0:04:35and going for difficult moves.
0:04:35 > 0:04:37Innovation.
0:04:37 > 0:04:38Don't just copy everyone else.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41Judges are impressed when competitors show moves
0:04:41 > 0:04:44that are different and unique.
0:04:44 > 0:04:46Combining major moves.
0:04:46 > 0:04:50Doing one big move is impressive enough, but if you can go
0:04:50 > 0:04:55smoothly from one to another, you get even more points.
0:04:55 > 0:04:57Variety.
0:04:57 > 0:04:59Competitors need to show that
0:04:59 > 0:05:01they've got lots of different skills.
0:05:01 > 0:05:05Speed, power and flow.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07This is how fast you move in the water,
0:05:07 > 0:05:10how much power is in your turns and how well you connect
0:05:10 > 0:05:11your moves together.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14Handy hint - if you can see lots of spray,
0:05:14 > 0:05:17it's probably a powerful ride.
0:05:17 > 0:05:24Master all of these and you might just become a champ.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26Now, take a look at this!
0:05:26 > 0:05:28Those shots of the planet Jupiter have been sent back earth
0:05:28 > 0:05:30by Nasa's spacecraft Juno.

0:05:36 > 0:05:38They've been amazed by the storms at the gas giant's poles.
0:05:38 > 0:05:41And in some of the pictures, dozens of hurricanes -
0:05:41 > 0:05:44each the size of Earth - can be seen clustered together.
