0:00:04 > 0:00:06Hey everyone, Leah here with today's Newsround.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Loads to get through including:

0:00:09 > 0:00:13We meet the scientists checking air pollution from the sky.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16How cool is it being a world champion surfer?

0:00:16 > 0:00:24And oven gloves at the ready - tonight's the final of Bake Off!

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Now, when it comes to pollution you might think of things down

0:00:33 > 0:00:38here on the ground like car fumes and factories, but to find out more

0:00:38 > 0:00:40about how clean the air in our cities actually is,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42scientists are taking to the skies.

0:00:42 > 0:00:48And Martin has gone along with them.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52This is one of the most advanced scientific aircraft in the world.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55It is this plane's job to measure the amount of air pollution

0:00:55 > 0:00:59there is in cities across the UK and I'm about to hop on board

0:00:59 > 0:01:09from East Midlands to Manchester to see how it works.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13On the outside it might look like an ordinary aeroplane,

0:01:13 > 0:01:19but on the inside it is a high-tech chemistry lab.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22On board I spoke to one of the lead scientists to find out more.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26James, what are we doing on this aircraft today?

0:01:26 > 0:01:29We are flying off the coast of Liverpool and Manchester.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32The wind is currently blowing all the pollution that gets emitted

0:01:32 > 0:01:36from cars and factories and things, it is blowing it over the sea

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and we are crossing that plume of pollution trying to measure how

0:01:39 > 0:01:41much is in it.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Air pollution is bad for us.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48What we are doing here is trying to understand better where this

0:01:48 > 0:01:52pollution is coming from, how much is being emitted and then

0:01:52 > 0:01:56going forward how to better inform people as to how we can improve

0:01:56 > 0:02:01the air quality in our cities.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05James, how unique is this aircraft in what it does?

0:02:05 > 0:02:09It is the only one in the UK.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13It is the largest one in Europe and it is pretty much

0:02:13 > 0:02:15state-of-the-art.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Compared to other aircraft around the world it is

0:02:17 > 0:02:20pretty much the best.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24We have got a few bits of equipment out hanging beneath the wings that

0:02:24 > 0:02:27measure things like clouds as we go through them and we have also got

0:02:27 > 0:02:29quite a lot of equipment inside the aircraft cabin.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33The air is being sucked through and our instruments

0:02:33 > 0:02:35are providing a measurement of the different air pollutants.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38There is a lot of high-tech equipment being flown around

0:02:38 > 0:02:44in this aircraft cabin.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Liverpool are into the quarter finals of the League Cup

0:02:46 > 0:02:48after beating Tottenham 2-1 last night.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52England striker Daniel Sturridge scored both of the Reds' goals

0:02:52 > 0:03:01having been out of the team for most of this season.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05In tonight's big cup match Manchester United play

0:03:05 > 0:03:07against Manchester City at Old Trafford later today.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Neither team won this weekend.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Man City drew with Southampton but Man United got thrashed by Chelsea.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16The City Manager Pep Guardiola says the fact that it's a local derby

0:03:16 > 0:03:20makes it even more exciting.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25A derby is a derby.

0:03:25 > 0:03:30So we are not going to play a game like just a game,

0:03:30 > 0:03:34it is a special game, it is a final, a competition game.

0:03:34 > 0:03:38We are going to try to...

0:03:38 > 0:03:41We are going to try no, we are going to play seriously

0:03:41 > 0:03:51like always we do since my period here and try to win the game.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56Now, because it's freezing outside here in the UK how

0:03:56 > 0:03:59about a big surfing competition in Portugal to end on?

0:03:59 > 0:04:01This guy is John John Florence.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03He's officially the best surfer ever after wining

0:04:03 > 0:04:06the 2016 World Championship.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08His was a flawless performance in the waves.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11The tournament hasn't even finished but Florence has so many points

0:04:11 > 0:04:15nobody can beat him.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18And finally the Great British Bake Off will air for the last time

0:04:18 > 0:04:19on the BBC with tonight's final.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23So just who will be crowned the series winner?

0:04:23 > 0:04:28Well, with this year's Royal Theme, Candice, Andrew and Jane will be

0:04:28 > 0:04:30getting their whisking spoons and hoping it's them.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32At 8.15 we'll be talking more about the show,

0:04:32 > 0:04:35but before then head online for loads of Bake Off

0:04:35 > 0:04:38related stuff including a profile of the finalists.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41We also want to know who you think should win Bake Off tonight?

0:04:41 > 0:04:46Get in touch and we'll read out some of your comments later on.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49That's all from me.
