:00:08. > :00:11.It's Monday 26th November. I'm Leah. And I'm Hayley, and we've got a

:00:11. > :00:15.packed show for you this afternoon live from Newsround HQ in Salford.

:00:15. > :00:23.Coming up. Wet and getting wetter. We'll

:00:23. > :00:27.update you on the floods as the rain heads north. And I meant

:00:27. > :00:33.Staffordshire by the River Trent which has burst its banks. Water

:00:33. > :00:36.levels are continuing to rise. You tell us who you think should be

:00:36. > :00:46.Sports Personality of the year. And McWho? We give the boys a

:00:46. > :00:55.

:00:55. > :01:00.memory test. This is Newsround. But first, to the bad weather that

:01:00. > :01:03.just keeps on battering Britain. It's moving north, to the north

:01:03. > :01:05.east of England and North Wales. Parts of the country are braced for

:01:05. > :01:10.even more flooding as heavy rain continues to fall on ground that's

:01:10. > :01:13.already soaked through. In the south west, many roads are

:01:13. > :01:19.still blocked. Emergency services have been working non stop to

:01:19. > :01:25.rescue people who'd got trapped. One family in Wiltshire said there

:01:25. > :01:30.was nothing they could do to stop the water pouring into their house.

:01:30. > :01:36.All we could do is stand and watch. And just mark the position of the

:01:36. > :01:43.flood water to see if it was coming up or going down. When eventually

:01:43. > :01:46.it did came in it came through the floor. And while some people are

:01:46. > :01:48.mopping up in their homes, for others, the threat of floods has

:01:48. > :01:51.not yet passed. The Environment Agency is the part of the

:01:51. > :01:53.government that deals with flooding. They've put in place nearly 200

:01:53. > :01:57.flood warnings, where a flood is definitely expected, telling people

:01:57. > :02:01.to take action. And nearly 300 flood alerts, telling people to

:02:01. > :02:04.prepare, just in case. Ricky's been in Burton-upon-Trent

:02:04. > :02:12.in Staffordshire, which has a flood warning in place, to see how people

:02:12. > :02:17.are trying to protect themselves from the threat of rising water.

:02:17. > :02:21.People here are on alert and are expecting heavy rain tonight. The

:02:21. > :02:26.kind of whether it that can cause serious damage. A flood alert has

:02:26. > :02:30.been issued in Burton-upon-Trent and a more serious flood warning

:02:30. > :02:35.has been issued along the side of the River Trent, one of the major

:02:35. > :02:39.rivers in England. That means river levels have been increasing and are

:02:39. > :02:43.showing no signs of slowing down. Thousands of people here must

:02:43. > :02:47.prepare themselves for the possibility of a flat. Water from

:02:47. > :02:52.the River Trent has spilled onto the pavement and that is why the

:02:52. > :02:57.Environment Agency have put flood defences in place. These are metal

:02:57. > :03:02.fences which. The water from travelling any further. In the

:03:02. > :03:07.distance you can see some park benches submerged in water. Been

:03:07. > :03:11.prepared is essential. Today I watch a team of specialists put in

:03:11. > :03:16.a barriers to make sure the water is contained. Instruments are

:03:16. > :03:20.located on all rivers around the country and are measuring water

:03:20. > :03:25.levels all the time. They set off alarms when they get to a level

:03:25. > :03:29.which is starting to cause a problem. We always see people

:03:29. > :03:33.putting the sandbags outside their homes. Where can people get these?

:03:33. > :03:40.You can get them in the shops or perhaps from the local council. But

:03:40. > :03:45.if not you can just fill up a shopping bag with soil from the

:03:45. > :03:49.garden. Emergency services are urging people to be careful and not

:03:49. > :03:53.risk their lives and to only travel if necessary. All the people here

:03:53. > :03:58.can do is wait for the rain to pass and hope it does not cause too much

:03:58. > :04:00.damage. Well, if heavy rain is coming your

:04:00. > :04:03.way, it's best to be prepared so that you can help protect

:04:03. > :04:06.yourselves, your pets and your homes. So head over to the

:04:06. > :04:09.Newsround website for our top five tips on keeping safe in the floods.

:04:09. > :04:17.Don't miss it! Leah, what was your sporting

:04:17. > :04:22.highlight of 2012? Wiggo becoming the first British winner of the

:04:22. > :04:24.Tour de France? That was pretty cool. How about Murray's first

:04:24. > :04:29.major tennis title, and all those Olympic and Paralympic golds. Those

:04:29. > :04:32.too. There's no doubting it has been an incredible year of sport.

:04:32. > :04:36.And tonight the nominations for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year

:04:36. > :04:43.award will be announced. I've been finding out who you guys think

:04:43. > :04:46.should be in with a shout of winning.

:04:46. > :04:56.Every year it won a sexual athlete is crowned BBC Sports personality

:04:56. > :04:58.

:04:58. > :05:01.of the year. -- a special athlete. It is going to be a tough choice.

:05:01. > :05:10.Among the 12 contenders are three strong favourites. We have the

:05:10. > :05:14.golden girl, Jessica Ennis. Long distance runner Mo Farah and of

:05:14. > :05:19.course Bradley Wiggins. Who do you think should wind Sports

:05:19. > :05:25.personality of the year? I think Jessica Ennis because she's really

:05:25. > :05:31.fast. I think Mo Farah because he's good fun and the fastest runner in

:05:31. > :05:40.Britain. Who do you think should win? I think it should the Andy

:05:41. > :05:44.Murray because he has been going for years. I think the Paralympic

:05:44. > :05:52.athletes should get the chance because they worked so well this

:05:52. > :05:59.year. Do you remember last year, we had no women voted in a shortlist

:05:59. > :06:07.for the award. Do you think it will be different this year? I do. They

:06:07. > :06:12.have been amazing. Nicola Adams has done well in boxing. She got

:06:12. > :06:16.mentioned a lot. These guys all over the want to win but we will

:06:16. > :06:26.find out for sure who will make the shortlist tonight at 7 o'clock. We

:06:26. > :06:26.

:06:26. > :06:30.will find out the names of the 12 finalists at 7 o'clock. All day on

:06:30. > :06:40.the website we have been asking you to get in touch with who you think

:06:40. > :06:51.

:06:51. > :06:53.should definitely make the shortlist. We had a lot of comments.

:06:53. > :06:56.Emma in Greater Manchester says, "Wiggo definitely, he is so

:06:56. > :06:59.inspiring and everyone loves his side burns! Wiggins all the way!"

:06:59. > :07:02.But Will, all the way from Malaysia, says, "It's got to be Mo Farah, I

:07:02. > :07:12.mean how awesome is he? He's just too cool, imagine GB without him -

:07:12. > :07:16.pretty glum!" Let's talk showbiz now. So, one of them won Strictly,

:07:16. > :07:20.another won I'm a Celebrity and now McFly have a new album out! Yes,

:07:20. > :07:24.it's a busy time for the boys. And to make matters worse, we hit them

:07:24. > :07:34.with a Newsround memory test! Serves them right for calling their

:07:34. > :07:38.

:07:38. > :07:48.album Memory Lane. In December to 1006 what did Duddy

:07:48. > :07:54.

:07:54. > :08:04.right on the camera? Bogey. You are a very naughty boy. You're song

:08:04. > :08:05.

:08:05. > :08:12.star role was played in an unusual place. In space. If you were an

:08:12. > :08:22.astronaut inwhat song would you like to float around two? I watched

:08:22. > :08:29.the programme when they announced that.
