:00:08. > :00:14.Newsround here with everything you need Tono. Coming up: Find out what
:00:15. > :00:17.Gary Barlow's scared of, and, are these the worst Christmas lights in
:00:18. > :00:23.the country? People living there think so.
:00:24. > :00:27.First, we are talking about Scotland, a country which has been
:00:28. > :00:33.part of the UK for over 300 years. But in less than a year, that could
:00:34. > :00:37.change. On the 18th September, 2014, Scotland will hold a referendum, a
:00:38. > :00:41.vote, where people will be asked a simple question - should Scotland be
:00:42. > :00:43.an independent country? Today, the Scottish Government revealed how
:00:44. > :00:49.they would run the country should the people vote yes. Martin's got
:00:50. > :00:53.the latest on this story. I'm here in Glasgow where earlier
:00:54. > :00:57.today, Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, released what he called the
:00:58. > :01:03.mission statement for Scotland's future. It's a massive document
:01:04. > :01:06.which is 670 pages long and the aim was to answer the difficult
:01:07. > :01:10.questions on how Scotland would be run if it was to become an
:01:11. > :01:15.independent country. We can have powers and responsibilities, we need
:01:16. > :01:20.to seize opportunities, to build a wealthier, fairer nation, but also
:01:21. > :01:23.to face our major challenges. So what are the key points? First
:01:24. > :01:28.up, money. The Scottish Government want to keep
:01:29. > :01:32.using the pound, although those against independence say it will
:01:33. > :01:36.cause huge problems to share the same money with the remainder of the
:01:37. > :01:40.UK. The yes campaign want the Queen to
:01:41. > :01:45.stay as Head of State and they want Scotland to stay in the European
:01:46. > :01:49.Union. Others say this would not be straightforward.
:01:50. > :01:52.The British Army would be split up. Scotland would have its own Defence
:01:53. > :01:55.Force but would give up nuclear weapons.
:01:56. > :02:00.Those who're against independence say that today's plan doesn't answer
:02:01. > :02:03.all the questions and that Scotland would be better off staying in the
:02:04. > :02:06.UK. They were supposed to come up with
:02:07. > :02:09.all the answers anyone could ever want Tono about anything to do with
:02:10. > :02:13.independence, but there's absolutely nothing new. The First Minister Alex
:02:14. > :02:16.Salmond thinks independence will make Scotland a more successful
:02:17. > :02:23.country. I'm here with Max, Jack, Max and
:02:24. > :02:27.Ellie. They'll be amongst the youngest voters in the UK next year.
:02:28. > :02:32.Jack, you voted yes for independence. What's made up your
:02:33. > :02:35.mind for you? Scotland should be run by the people that Scotland want,
:02:36. > :02:41.rather than by the people down south. I think that's it. Max, you
:02:42. > :02:46.are going to vote no. Why is that? I think there's too much uncertainty
:02:47. > :02:52.for to it actually happen because there's too much risk.
:02:53. > :02:57.If we were to go independent, and things were to go wrong, we need
:02:58. > :03:02.help. Unless a revolution happens, there's no many ways I can see it
:03:03. > :03:08.working. Ellie, you are split down the middle and don't know which to
:03:09. > :03:13.vote for yet? I don't feel I have enough information yet. People say
:03:14. > :03:15.this party is great, this party is terrible. There should be something
:03:16. > :03:22.that we can understand to help us decide. Max, why is it important for
:03:23. > :03:26.people to be able to vote? It's important for young people to have
:03:27. > :03:32.an opinion in Scotland. It's going to be often a life-changing decision
:03:33. > :03:37.and it will affect us most. Next, spiders and the dark. I'm afraid of
:03:38. > :03:41.heights. What about you? Gary Barlow's spoken about his biggest
:03:42. > :03:46.fear, flying. He told the Daily Mirror newspaper that he's always
:03:47. > :03:49.been a nervous traveller sand is especially scared of take off. His
:03:50. > :03:53.busy schedule means he has to travel lots, so he's signed up for a
:03:54. > :03:59.special course where he'll learn how a plane works to tray to overcrop
:04:00. > :04:07.his phobia. Online, we are asking how you've overcrop your fears --
:04:08. > :04:10.overcome your fears. Next, England cricket verse spoken
:04:11. > :04:15.out in support of Jonathan Trott after he left the Ashes tour with a
:04:16. > :04:19.stress related illness. The endless cycle of cricket and touring seems
:04:20. > :04:23.to have taken its toll. He's returned home to recover. It's not
:04:24. > :04:30.the first time a celebrity's opened up about their strucks. --
:04:31. > :04:34.struggles. Tune in at 6. 50 for more on that. As the clock counts down to
:04:35. > :04:38.Christmas, up tos and cities have been holding big events to celebrate
:04:39. > :04:42.switching on the Christmas lights. At one town in Kent, the reaction
:04:43. > :04:46.was far from friendly. There were loud boos when these lights were
:04:47. > :04:50.unveiled. Lots of people complained about the festive decorations,
:04:51. > :04:54.calling them embarrassing, with some billing them as the worst Christmas
:04:55. > :04:59.lights in the country. That's brutal. That's all for now. More at
