0:00:58 > 0:00:59Meet Kava.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01He's ten years old and likes football, music and bowling.

0:01:01 > 0:01:06And, like millions of kids across Sweden, he's off to school.

0:01:06 > 0:01:11But 18 months ago Kava's life was very different.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Kava and his family were forced to leave their home in Syria

0:01:14 > 0:01:19because of a war that's been going on there since 2011.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Thousands of people have died and around 4 million people

0:01:22 > 0:01:25like Kava have had to leave the country to get away

0:01:25 > 0:01:27from the fighting.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31Many people have made long journeys to countries in Europe,

0:01:31 > 0:01:35because they think they will be able to have a better life there.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39TRANSLATION: We left when it was evening,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41and we were very scared on the road.

0:01:41 > 0:01:47It was completely dark.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Kava and his family travelled from Syria to Turkey,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54and then got on a boat to make a dangerous journey across the sea

0:01:54 > 0:01:59to a Greek island called Lesbos.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01TRANSLATION: We eventually took a small boat and crossed

0:02:01 > 0:02:09the sea to Europe, and we were very terrified.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Newsround first met Kava in 2015, shortly after he had

0:02:11 > 0:02:14arrived on Lesbos.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16TRANSLATION: I want to see my brother, who is in Sweden.

0:02:16 > 0:02:22He's already there and I want to join him, I miss him.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24And he got his wish.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26After getting a ferry to mainland Greece, Kava's family

0:02:26 > 0:02:31travelled overland by bus all the way to Sweden.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Kava and his family have been living in this very snowy town

0:02:34 > 0:02:37for more than a year now, and Kava has even started

0:02:37 > 0:02:40going to his local school, so I've come to find out

0:02:40 > 0:02:43what his life is like now.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46TRANSLATION: I like the school, the school is good.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50There's no violence here, it is good here.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53I like Sweden.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56I like mathematics and doing my lessons.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00And writing on a computer, laptop or an iPad.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Learning Swedish was difficult at first, but later it

0:03:07 > 0:03:12became easier, very easy.

0:03:12 > 0:03:17I have friends, and they are very kind, they are good.

0:03:17 > 0:03:27My friends and I chase each other, run around,

0:03:27 > 0:03:28and we play in the snow.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Is there anything you miss about life with your friends in Syria?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33My friends are not in Syria any more, they went

0:03:33 > 0:03:36to Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38They are not in Syria.

0:03:38 > 0:03:44I would like to meet them again.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48Although Kava is happy to be settled with his family here in Sweden,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51I want to find out how he feels about having to leave

0:03:51 > 0:03:55his home in Syria.

0:03:55 > 0:04:01TRANSLATION: In our old home, we used to play.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04We had a laptop, we had a large house with a large garden

0:04:04 > 0:04:07where we used to play.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11But I don't remember much else.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14TRANSLATION: When the war broke out, everyone went

0:04:14 > 0:04:16in different directions.

0:04:16 > 0:04:20Some left their mothers, others their fathers or their brothers.

0:04:20 > 0:04:21Not many people stayed together.

0:04:21 > 0:04:26TRANSLATION: We stuck together and held each other closely so none

0:04:26 > 0:04:28of us would be left behind.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32That's why we remained holding each other so strongly.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34What are your hopes for the future?

0:04:34 > 0:04:37TRANSLATION: Now I am with my brother, sister

0:04:37 > 0:04:39and parents here together.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41We are very happy, it is nice here.
