:00:00. > :00:09.Morning everyone, I'm Martin with your Thursday headlines. Coming up

:00:10. > :00:13.in the next five: It's school report day, with thousands of you taking

:00:14. > :00:17.over the BBC's news services. We hear from reporters in the south

:00:18. > :00:20.west of England on how they've been affected by the winter floods. And

:00:21. > :00:27.find out why 1D's Niall was looking nervous yesterday. This is

:00:28. > :00:31.Newsround. But first, on Newsround, you'll have

:00:32. > :00:37.got used to the likes of Ricky, Leah and me telling you all about the

:00:38. > :00:41.day's top stories. But today parts BBC News are handing control over to

:00:42. > :00:44.you. Around 30,000 young reporters from over 1000 schools have been

:00:45. > :00:48.given the chance to make their own reports on the stories that matter

:00:49. > :00:51.to them. Robert Blake's Science College have this report on how

:00:52. > :01:00.their area was affected by the winter floods.

:01:01. > :01:05.The floods may have stopped making headlines but communities across the

:01:06. > :01:10.country are still reeling in the aftermath. Earlier this year, parts

:01:11. > :01:16.of Moorland near Bridgwater was flooded for the first time in its

:01:17. > :01:20.history, leaving houses devastated and uprooting families from their

:01:21. > :01:27.homes. This is the first time that 14-year-old Georgina has returned

:01:28. > :01:31.home since the water subsided. I was in France. A friend contacted me

:01:32. > :01:37.through social media. She said we had been flooded and everything. It

:01:38. > :01:41.made me want to go home. Her brother tried to rescue what he could before

:01:42. > :01:46.emergency services made them leave in the middle of the night. I had

:01:47. > :01:52.only packed by close the day before. I had my hair dryer in my bag! I put

:01:53. > :01:57.things in the conservatory thinking they were safe. It seems like a

:01:58. > :02:05.waste of time. There is no chance of surviving this. When the rivers

:02:06. > :02:15.burst their banks, over a quarter of the Somerset levels were flooded.

:02:16. > :02:19.Despite 50,000 sandbags... And 62 pumps operating 24 hours a day, the

:02:20. > :02:25.force of nature was too strong to hold back. The government may have

:02:26. > :02:32.pledged more money to flood defences but for families here, it is too

:02:33. > :02:35.little, too late. This is Robert Blake science college reporting for

:02:36. > :02:38.BBC News. And in our next bulletin at 08.15

:02:39. > :02:42.our school reporters meet two very special movie star guests! You can

:02:43. > :02:46.check out tonnes more on the School Report website too.

:02:47. > :02:50.Thousands of bird watchers took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch and

:02:51. > :02:54.now the results are in. Blue tits had their highest position since the

:02:55. > :02:56.survey began in 1979. Sightings of starlings also increased but

:02:57. > :02:59.sparrows are still the most common bird coming in the number one

:03:00. > :03:02.position. Football now and Celtic secured

:03:03. > :03:06.their third Scottish title in a row last night, after beating Partick

:03:07. > :03:10.Thistle 5-1. Neil Lennon's side came out strong, with striker Anthony

:03:11. > :03:15.Stokes scoring two goals. Amazingly, the Scottish Champions still have

:03:16. > :03:18.seven games to play this season. Liverpool are back to second in the

:03:19. > :03:22.Premier League, just one point behind Chelsea, after a 2-1 win over

:03:23. > :03:25.Sunderland last night. Steven Gerrard opened up the scoring just

:03:26. > :03:28.before half time with a free-kick, and Daniel Sturridge made sure of

:03:29. > :03:44.the three points just after the restart. They have got the games in

:03:45. > :03:50.hand. Obviously, they are out of the Champions League. Chelsea are strong

:03:51. > :03:54.squad. For us, we are enjoying being up there. We have been improving.

:03:55. > :03:58.And West Ham were gifted their first win in four games with this bizarre

:03:59. > :04:02.own goal from Hull's James Chester. Sam Allardyce's men came from a goal

:04:03. > :04:07.down to win the match but were still booed off by the crowd at the end.

:04:08. > :04:10.And Andy Murray hasn't been able to defend his Miami Masters title in

:04:11. > :04:15.Florida. He was knocked out last night at the quarterfinal stage by

:04:16. > :04:19.world number two, Novak Djokovic. Just enough time to tell you to head

:04:20. > :04:22.to the website to check out both our special programmes from this week,

:04:23. > :04:24.yesterday's front line Families, Nel's report on the kids in

:04:25. > :04:27.Afghanistan's capital Kabul, and while you're there, something a

:04:28. > :04:33.little different, you can send us your questions for the coach of The

:04:34. > :04:36.Voice, Ricky Wilson. Normally it would be thousands of

:04:37. > :04:40.fans queuing up to see him - but this time it was 1d's Niall waiting

:04:41. > :04:44.in line. Here is he looking a bit nervous as he lined up to meet the

:04:45. > :04:47.Queen at Buckingham palace. She held the reception to celebrate people

:04:48. > :04:51.from Ireland who've made a contribution to Britain. Niall said

:04:52. > :04:54.it was an absolute honour to be invited. That's all from me,

:04:55. > :05:02.Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.
