:01:04. > :01:09.wasn't easy. The scientists had to watch out for crocodiles, gorillas

:01:10. > :01:15.and elephants. It was incredibly surprising to find an area the size

:01:16. > :01:22.of England that, essentially, was uncharted. We walked through it in

:01:23. > :01:29.the daytime collecting our samples. In the evening, we put up tents. The

:01:30. > :01:39.land is special because it contains tonnes of decay which is more than a

:01:40. > :01:43.thousand years old. Pete is all around us. This peatland in Greater

:01:44. > :01:50.Manchester is quite wet and spongy. On the surface, it doesn't -- it is

:01:51. > :01:52.spongy on the surface. It is incredibly important for

:01:53. > :01:57.conservation because all of this has been slowly decomposing the more

:02:06. > :02:10.elephants, crocodiles. Things we don't have here. They've also got

:02:11. > :02:17.trees. Scientists have brought back samples of the Pete to test. It will

:02:18. > :02:17.help them learn more about how the environment has changed over the

:02:58. > :03:01.to turn up to work and go on strike Next - to what was once called the

:03:02. > :03:09.8th wonder of the world - hidden It was the first under water tunnel

:03:10. > :03:14.built anywhere on the planet back And now it's been reopened to

:03:15. > :03:18.the public for the first time Deep below the River Thames

:03:19. > :03:24.in London lies one of the greatest This is a glimpse into the

:03:25. > :03:30.Thames Tunnel - built over 250 years Back in Victorian London,

:03:31. > :03:36.people needed a new way to get across the crowded River Thames

:03:37. > :03:39.so an engineer called Marc Brunel suggested building a tunnel

:03:40. > :03:42.between Rotherhithe and Wapping. This was the dream- but no one had

:03:43. > :03:47.ever successfully built an underwater tunnel before- and

:03:48. > :03:52.working on it was very dangerous. workers in cells,

:03:53. > :03:55.they do two hour shifts. Work began in 1825

:03:56. > :04:10.and took 18 years to complete. Workers would work in shifts but

:04:11. > :04:11.they had to come off after a couple of hours because of the air

:04:19. > :04:21.to pass under the Thames, and visit the underground shops that were set

:04:22. > :04:24.up in the tunnel's archways. But the novelty wore off

:04:25. > :04:27.and the tunnel was sold to it's used by London Overground
