:00:20. > :00:26.tennis. Can Laura Robson do it?
:00:26. > :00:29.This is Newsround. Don't we just love our pets, or do
:00:29. > :00:32.The RSCPA has released figures showing that us jetting off on our
:00:32. > :00:35.summer holidays could be the reason for thousands more pets being
:00:35. > :00:37.abandoned every year. The charity says the number of
:00:37. > :00:47.dumped animals is the highest for six years.
:00:47. > :00:52.Over to Martin and his new friends. This is two kit.sfound in a school
:00:52. > :00:57.playground five days ago. The RSPCA say more pets like these have been
:00:57. > :01:02.found abandoned in England and Wales. In 2011 they reported more
:01:03. > :01:07.than 28,000 abandoned pets. In 2012 that had shot up to more than
:01:07. > :01:11.37,000. Because many of them were dumped in the summer months, the
:01:11. > :01:19.RSPCA think a lot of it is down to owners not wanting to pay out for
:01:19. > :01:23.Ken ets or cateries when they go on holiday. Times are hard. Now there
:01:23. > :01:30.is a pressure on people's personal finances. If you are going away

:01:34. > :01:39.like that. What should owners do if they can't take care of their pets?
:01:39. > :01:45.If you have a pet and can't afford vet fees, for example, seek help
:01:45. > :01:49.from a charity like the RSPCA. Do the things that will help prevent
:01:49. > :01:59.disease, vaccination, worming, flea treatment. Prevention is better than
:01:59. > :02:00.
:02:00. > :02:05.cure. To put a cat in a cater why I it costs 8, dog kennels, 10-10.
:02:05. > :02:11.Rabbits cost 3. These two will find a new home, the RSPCA are hoping
:02:11. > :02:15.people will think more about their pets before they get on that plane.
:02:15. > :02:16.Next, huge crowds are gathering outside a hospital in South Africa,
:02:16. > :02:18.where the country's former President, Nelson Mandela, remains
:02:18. > :02:21.critically ill. The 94-year-old has been receiving
:02:21. > :02:23.treatment for a lung infection for nearly three weeks.
:02:23. > :02:26.His family have been visiting him at the hospital in Pretoria.
:02:26. > :02:29.Nelson Mandela is one of the world's most respected figures for his work
:02:29. > :02:38.in ridding South Africa of a system which treated black people as much
:02:38. > :02:48.less important than white people. The BBC's Karen Allen sent us this
:02:48. > :02:57.
:02:57. > :03:03.get well soon." Ta Ta means "father." We have balloons brought
:03:03. > :03:08.here. Even a teddy bear. Lots of photographs of Nelson Mandela. We
:03:08. > :03:11.are seeing groups of children with their faces painted with the words
:03:11. > :03:14."Nelson Mandela" on the side. That gives you a sense of how much,
:03:14. > :03:19.whether you are young or old in South Africa, Nelson Mandela is
:03:19. > :03:21.considered to be the father of the nation.
:03:22. > :03:25.Now, after Wimbledon's so-called 'Withdrawal Wednesday' - which saw
:03:25. > :03:27.seven players pulling out with injuries - and the shocking loss of
:03:27. > :03:32.defending champ Roger Federer, will it be a Thrilling Thursday for

:03:35. > :03:39.She faces Mariana Erakovic from Colombia later in the second round.
:03:39. > :03:44.BBC Sport reporter John Watson joins us live from Wimbledon. What do you
:03:44. > :03:49.reckon to Laura's chances? They are pretty good. She played in her last
:03:49. > :03:54.match. She beat one of the top seeds there. She could be a top 10 player
:03:54. > :03:57.in the future. She has to fancies her chances going into today's
:03:57. > :04:03.match. People pulled out yesterday because of what they are say
:04:03. > :04:07.something a slippery surface. What is the latest? No players today seem
:04:07. > :04:11.to be slipping as much as they were yesterday. Maria Sharapova and
:04:11. > :04:15.Victoria Azarenka complained that the courts were slippy. Wimbledon,
:04:15. > :04:25.the organisers, had toe respond saying they have done nothing
:04:25. > :04:29.differently to the courts than they have done in previous injuries.

:04:34. > :04:38.for Andy Murray. He is playing well. No Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal. He
:04:38. > :04:41.would have had to play one of those to make it through to the final.
:04:41. > :04:45.With them out and the players left in the draw, Andy Murray is probably
:04:45. > :04:51.the favourite. Let us hope this could be Andy Murray's year. Fingers
