:00:00. > :00:00.Good afternoon, it's Hayley here with your Thursday afternoon

:00:00. > :00:18.More child refugees from the Middle Eastern country

:00:19. > :00:21.of Syria will be allowed to come to the UK to live.

:00:22. > :00:23.The Government will invite kids who've been separated

:00:24. > :00:25.from their families and are currently living in refugee

:00:26. > :00:27.camps, not those who've already made the journey to Europe.

:00:28. > :00:37.War and conflict in Syria in the Middle East has sent

:00:38. > :00:39.thousands of people, many of them children,

:00:40. > :00:42.looking for safety in other countries.

:00:43. > :00:44.Some have travelled to Europe, making the dangerous journey

:00:45. > :00:48.Children can get split up from their families and end

:00:49. > :00:53.Others are living in refugee camps in countries neighbouring Syria -

:00:54. > :00:58.Here they live in tents and shelters.

:00:59. > :01:01.Last year the Government said that it would allow 20,000 people

:01:02. > :01:05.from camps like these to live in the UK.

:01:06. > :01:07.Today they've said more children who have been separated

:01:08. > :01:13.from their families will also be able to come.

:01:14. > :01:19.The Government's already said it will take 20,000 refugees and

:01:20. > :01:24.resettle them in the United Kingdom over the next five years. But

:01:25. > :01:26.they've come under pressure to do more, especially for children,

:01:27. > :01:30.who've travelled to Europe on their own. Today Ministers responded to

:01:31. > :01:35.that. They said they would give more help, but they are not putting a

:01:36. > :01:39.precise figure on it. They want to focus on those children who've in

:01:40. > :01:44.camps around Syria, in countries like Jordan and Lebanon. Ministers

:01:45. > :01:48.say what they don't want to do is to encourage more families to make a

:01:49. > :01:52.very dangerous journey across Europe. Our political parties such

:01:53. > :01:56.as Labour say they need to help the children who are already here in

:01:57. > :02:00.Europe. They say they need our help, too. Some charities like Save the

:02:01. > :02:03.Children are worried. The war in Syria has been going on nearly five

:02:04. > :02:09.years now. That's a really long time. Lots of children have already

:02:10. > :02:12.thread that area to try to escape it. It is good news that the

:02:13. > :02:14.Government wants to help those children but it is important they

:02:15. > :02:18.help the children who've already fled and made their way to Europe.

:02:19. > :02:22.The details are not clear but more vulnerable children will be able to

:02:23. > :02:26.start a new life in the UK. However, there are still big worries that

:02:27. > :02:32.there are many thousands more already in Europe still at risk.

:02:33. > :02:35.Did you know that around the country right now there are thousands

:02:36. > :02:37.of children like you caring for their mum or dad?

:02:38. > :02:41.They're called young carers and take on a lot of the jobs around

:02:42. > :02:45.They do this because their mum or dad isn't well enough to do

:02:46. > :02:48.Charlotte is a young carer who looks after her mum.

:02:49. > :03:03.One of the first elements I remember about caring for my mum was she

:03:04. > :03:07.never used to be able to do the things other mumgs would do. Often

:03:08. > :03:11.things would become way too much for for her and she would have to lie

:03:12. > :03:16.down and withdraw. As a kid that would make me feel bad, so I try to

:03:17. > :03:20.make her happy and draw stuff for her to lighten her mood. I would see

:03:21. > :03:24.other mums lifting up their kids and going running with them. I would be

:03:25. > :03:29.like, why can't mum do that for me? There was an absence of this kind of

:03:30. > :03:35.fun-loving mumming that I used to know. But she couldn't help it. I

:03:36. > :03:39.don't blame her for that but I knew something wasn't that. A certain

:03:40. > :03:42.teacher that really helped me realise that something was wrong.

:03:43. > :03:48.She was one of the first people I ever told and I got support that I

:03:49. > :03:53.needed. I just broke down in tears. I want sad. Sad. It was the realise

:03:54. > :03:59.that that was what's wrong. That the point there was just kind of a, oh

:04:00. > :04:02.my God, that's what's wrong She nodded ot me and said, that's OK,

:04:03. > :04:09.and we are going to work through this. It sounds really cliched but

:04:10. > :04:12.at that moment I really didn't feel like I was completely alone any

:04:13. > :04:18.more. There's a lot of experiences to be had. Some of them are going to

:04:19. > :04:25.be good and some bad. But that's OK, as being a young carer made me who I

:04:26. > :04:30.am. I wouldn't be half as resilient if I hadn't gone through that. I

:04:31. > :04:33.know how to deal with the disappointments and anxieties. I've

:04:34. > :04:39.seen my mum go through it and I've had to go through it with her. Head

:04:40. > :04:42.to the Newsround website if you want to know more about the help

:04:43. > :04:44.available to young carers. One of the world's top paragliders

:04:45. > :04:48.flew under the Northern He had to battle snow

:04:49. > :04:52.storms and even the wires Newsround's back right here on CBBC

:04:53. > :04:57.tomorrow morning at 7.40.
