0:00:15 > 0:00:17The less-than-cute animals who are missing out.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20It's Newsround.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30First, a storm that's been named Katie has been battering large

0:00:30 > 0:00:32parts of England and Wales, last night and throughout

0:00:32 > 0:00:33the day today.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Super-strong winds, lightning and flood warnings have left flights

0:00:36 > 0:00:40cancelled, trees uprooted, buildings damaged, and thousands

0:00:40 > 0:00:43of people without power or electricity in their homes.

0:00:43 > 0:00:48The bad weather is expected to ease as the day goes on.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Now to football, and Leicester City are still at the top

0:00:50 > 0:00:52of the Premier League table.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Fans are rooting for them to make it all the way

0:00:54 > 0:00:56and take the trophy this season.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Their success this year is winning them lots of new supporters,

0:00:59 > 0:01:07and not just ones who live in the city - as I found out.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Happy, smiling Leicester City fans are becoming a more common

0:01:10 > 0:01:12sight this year.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15But these ones aren't in England, they're in Thailand,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17in south-east Asia.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Lots of people here support the big name English clubs like Liverpool

0:01:20 > 0:01:22and Manchester United.

0:01:22 > 0:01:27But when Thai owners took over Leicester City in 2010,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30many people switched to support the club.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33And with the recent success of the team in the Premier League,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35even more football fans in Thailand are supporting the Foxes.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39In fact, they're so popular, every Leicester City football shirt

0:01:39 > 0:01:43in the country has sold out!

0:01:43 > 0:01:46I've been a Leicester City fan since the beginning,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48when there were fewer than 10,000 of us.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52I have been a Leicester City fan since Thai people took over.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Before that, I was a Manchester United supporter,

0:01:56 > 0:02:03but I have fully become a LCFC supporter.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05The Thai club-owners

0:02:05 > 0:02:07are encouraging their new fans by giving out free food and drink

0:02:07 > 0:02:09when the matches are on TV.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11But can Leicester City keep up the popularity?

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Only time will tell!

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Tennis star Jamie Murray has made history, becoming the first Briton

0:02:15 > 0:02:19under the modern ranking system to be named a World Number 1.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21He'll become the first British World Number 1 in doubles

0:02:21 > 0:02:24in more than 40 years

0:02:24 > 0:02:27when he officially takes the top spot next week.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30And head online for more on that story, including our Murray brothers

0:02:30 > 0:02:33top trumps!

0:02:33 > 0:02:35On the news we often hear about animals that are endangered

0:02:35 > 0:02:37or facing extinction.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40But have you noticed how often those animals are pretty cute?

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Well, what about the not-so-cute critters?

0:02:42 > 0:02:45A study has found that ugly animals are struggling to get

0:02:45 > 0:02:50the same attention.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53It's like something from a nightmare.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55A gargoyle face, a crumbling nose,

0:02:55 > 0:03:01fleshy wings and a loud, high-pitched squeak.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04This is the orange leaf-nosed bat.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07It's probably not going to win a beauty

0:03:07 > 0:03:09contest any time soon.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11But Australian researchers say this endangered mammal,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13and many others like it, deserve a lot more

0:03:13 > 0:03:17attention than they are getting.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19A new study has found a lot of animals

0:03:19 > 0:03:22in Australia are missing out on funding and research because,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26well, they're just not pretty enough.

0:03:26 > 0:03:31The study looked at 331 Australian mammals, and put them into three

0:03:31 > 0:03:35categories - the good, the bad and the ugly.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38We all know the good ones, the cute animals that people tend

0:03:38 > 0:03:43to love, creatures like kangaroos, koalas and echidnas.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45The bad ones are often pests.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47They need to be watched so that they don't harm

0:03:47 > 0:03:49other animals or the environment.

0:03:49 > 0:03:54They include cats, rabbits and foxes.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56And then, there's the ugly.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59They're the animals that often come out at night,

0:03:59 > 0:04:01and we normally don't pay much attention to them.

0:04:01 > 0:04:06Creatures like bats, rats and flying foxes.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09It's this last group that could be in danger of becoming extinct,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12which is a big problem, because every animal

0:04:12 > 0:04:15plays an important role in the ecosystem.

0:04:15 > 0:04:20For example, small bats can eat up to 1000 mosquitos an hour,

0:04:20 > 0:04:23so fewer bats could mean more mosquitos.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26Scientists think the country's ugly animals deserve

0:04:26 > 0:04:29just as much attention as the cute and cuddly ones,

0:04:29 > 0:04:32so Australians are being asked to be citizen

0:04:32 > 0:04:36scientists - regular people who help keep tabs on the animals living

0:04:36 > 0:04:39around them.

0:04:39 > 0:04:40So have a look for yourself.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42Up close, you might discover that even the so-called

0:04:42 > 0:04:46ugly ones can actually be pretty cute.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Finally, it's the superhero face-off of the year -

0:04:52 > 0:04:55and now Batman v Superman has broken box-office records.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58The film, which brings the two superheroes together

0:04:58 > 0:05:00for the first time, has overcome bad reviews to take

0:05:00 > 0:05:04?300 million at the box office in its first five days.

0:05:04 > 0:05:08That makes it the best-ever opening for a March film release,

0:05:08 > 0:05:12and the fourth highest of all time.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15That's it from the news team today, but keep watching, because up next

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Ricky's here with a special investigation!

0:05:17 > 0:05:21He's been finding out how important technology is in our lives today,

0:05:21 > 0:05:23and asking what would happen if we weren't allowed

0:05:23 > 0:05:25to use our gadgets.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28It's a Newsround Special: Is Tech Taking Over?

0:05:30 > 0:05:32Technology is awesome.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34We can use it to create virtual worlds,

0:05:34 > 0:05:36send tweets from outer space,

0:05:36 > 0:05:39and experts can even predict earthquakes

0:05:39 > 0:05:41using everyday smartphones.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45Now, imagine a world where you can use technology whenever you want.
