:00:15. > :00:20.she was the writer behind the Tales of Peter Rabbit,

:00:21. > :00:23.Jemima Puddle-Duck and many other famous characters.

:00:24. > :00:26.And today Beatrix Potter would have turned 150 years old.

:00:27. > :00:28.To celebrate, here's Leah with five facts you might not

:00:29. > :00:45.Five fun facts about Beatrix Potter. When she was young she kept a diary

:00:46. > :00:49.written in her own secret made up language, writing in a special code

:00:50. > :00:58.about places she went to an things she saw. Beatrix Potter love life in

:00:59. > :01:03.the country. She was so passionate about nature and conservation she

:01:04. > :01:13.helped start the National trust. It helps to protect important areas of

:01:14. > :01:16.the UK countryside. Peter Rabbit was based on Beatrix Potter's real

:01:17. > :01:24.rabbit, called Peter Piper. She wrote that he was very good at

:01:25. > :01:30.tricks and very sweet. The author developed a passion for fun guy, a

:01:31. > :01:34.group of living things including mushrooms. As a grown-up she

:01:35. > :01:42.researched, studied and painted it in the Lake District where she

:01:43. > :01:45.lived. Beatrix Potter was not only a great writer. Later in life she

:01:46. > :01:50.became an award-winning sheep farmer.

:01:51. > :01:55.Over in America - Barack Obama has called on people to make

:01:56. > :02:00.Hillary Clinton the next US president.

:02:01. > :02:02.He said the former First Lady was the most qualified person

:02:03. > :02:06.Yesterday, she was officially chosen by her political party,

:02:07. > :02:10.the Democrats, to run in the US election this November.

:02:11. > :02:15.This year, in this election, I'm asking you to join me to reject

:02:16. > :02:18.cynicism and reject fear and summon what is best in us to elect

:02:19. > :02:20.Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States and

:02:21. > :02:32.show the world we still believe in the promise of this great nation.

:02:33. > :02:35.Now here's a question for you - how do you help 500

:02:36. > :02:41.That's the problem facing a conservation group trying to do

:02:42. > :02:43.just that in Malawi in south-east Africa.

:02:44. > :02:53.Up to seven metres long and six tonnes in weight. The African

:02:54. > :02:58.elephant is the largest land mammal in the world. The population is

:02:59. > :03:02.under threat from poaching, when they are killed for their tusks.

:03:03. > :03:08.Another problem is they are less areas suitable for them to live in.

:03:09. > :03:13.500 elephants in Malawi are being rehoused to give them more space in

:03:14. > :03:17.a preserve to live and eat. Sending elephants to a new park is such an

:03:18. > :03:21.important thing. We need to be sure the new habitats they moved to is

:03:22. > :03:25.the right place for elephants and there is plenty of food and lots of

:03:26. > :03:31.water and a very good fence around the sanctuary. But moving them is a

:03:32. > :03:35.hefty operation. These elephants are fine. They have been tranquillised,

:03:36. > :03:40.so they can sleep and be moved safely. They are carefully driven to

:03:41. > :03:46.the new location on large trucks and monitored to check they are settling

:03:47. > :03:49.in OK. The great thing about elephants is they are very adaptable

:03:50. > :03:54.and very clever animals. They normally very quickly settle into

:03:55. > :03:59.their new home. The information we have on the elephants already moved

:04:00. > :04:04.is they are all well settled and no problems have been encountered at

:04:05. > :04:09.all. 100 years ago an estimated 3.5 million elephants roamed Africa. Now

:04:10. > :04:15.there are about 407 the thousands. It is hoped spreading the population

:04:16. > :04:16.and giving them more space to roam will mean these mammals will be

:04:17. > :04:21.around for many years to come. Team GB is arriving in Brazil

:04:22. > :04:23.ahead of the Olympics. There's only eight days to go

:04:24. > :04:26.until the games officially kick off. This is their training camp -

:04:27. > :04:29.which is 250 miles from where One of our biggest medal hopefuls

:04:30. > :04:42.is World gymnast champion He has been talking about his

:04:43. > :04:46.chances. It calms me knowing I had that title behind me. Some people

:04:47. > :04:51.see it as more pressure but I see it as a result in the bag now. I need

:04:52. > :04:57.to move forward and produce the best scores I can and I am doing my best

:04:58. > :05:00.to do that. Good luck. We are back right here in just about half are

:05:01. > :05:03.now. See you then. Goodbye.
