:00:00. > :00:11.Hi, I'm Leah with your morning Newsround. On today's show. Viking

:00:12. > :00:15.warriors take over a town in Scotland... Sort of. And another big

:00:16. > :00:21.freeze hits parts of America. This is Newsround.

:00:22. > :00:26.First, a big education report out this morning says a quarter of young

:00:27. > :00:31.people in poorer countries can't read a single sentence. That's

:00:32. > :00:35.millions of children who can't read or write. The United Nations is now

:00:36. > :00:38.calling on the world's governments to give these kids the chance to go

:00:39. > :01:07.to school. Nel's been looking into it. This girl is 12 and lives in

:01:08. > :01:11.Lahore, Pakistan. She has been studying at this school for the past

:01:12. > :01:17.three years, but doesn't know how much longer she'll be here.

:01:18. > :01:20.TRANSLATION: My father doesn't want me to learn. He thinks it's not a

:01:21. > :01:26.good thing for girls to study. I have to fight in everyday to come to

:01:27. > :01:31.school. That's because in Pakistan, girls are treated very to boys and

:01:32. > :01:35.poor children are treated very differently to rich ones. I've come

:01:36. > :01:39.to a girls school in Manchester. I'm here to meet a girl who studies in

:01:40. > :01:44.the UK but who visits her family in Pakistan every year. She understands

:01:45. > :01:48.how different school life can be in the two countries. Education here is

:01:49. > :01:54.much better. Just the opportunities you can have. Although life is very

:01:55. > :01:57.different, both girls have the same dreams for the future. I want to

:01:58. > :02:05.have the education to have a good job. My dream has always been to be

:02:06. > :02:09.a doctor. Father doesn't think I can do it but I want a job, that's all.

:02:10. > :02:13.And you can see Nel's full report into that over on our website, right

:02:14. > :02:16.now. Next, some of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees will be

:02:17. > :02:19.allowed to come and live temporarily in the UK. Deputy Prime Minister

:02:20. > :02:22.Nick Clegg says those most at risk including disabled, the elderly and

:02:23. > :02:26.women and girls will get priority. The Government haven't set a target

:02:27. > :02:31.of how many refugees will come to the UK but expect it to be in the

:02:32. > :02:34.hundreds. In America, more arctic weather has caused chaos in the

:02:35. > :02:37.Midwest, with schools closing, airlines cancelling flights and

:02:38. > :02:41.emergency crews working to dig out major roadways. Many motorists

:02:42. > :02:45.trying to travel spun off the road or slid into snow banks. In Ohio,

:02:46. > :02:52.high winds created "snow rollers", which are coils of snow whipped up

:02:53. > :02:55.by the 40mph gusts. In the normally warm Southern states, a state of

:02:56. > :02:59.emergency has been declared as they prepare for a severe winter storm

:03:00. > :03:04.too. To warmer places and just an hour or so ago, England retained the

:03:05. > :03:08.Women's Ashes in Australia. They needed to win the first Twenty20

:03:09. > :03:10.match to win the series. England won by nine wickets, with captain

:03:11. > :03:15.Charlotte Edwards hitting the winning runs to finish a brilliant

:03:16. > :03:21.innings of 92 not out. The men play their first Twenty20 in Hobart after

:03:22. > :03:24.8am this morning. A big night in the Premier League saw Liverpool smash

:03:25. > :03:27.their local rivals Everton 4-0 in the Merseyside derby. Reds captain

:03:28. > :03:30.Steven Gerrard scored after 20 minutes and Daniel Sturridge

:03:31. > :03:34.followed up with two more before half-time. Man United also won last

:03:35. > :03:38.night, but Arsenal were held to a draw. Luis Suarez picked up a fourth

:03:39. > :03:44.to leave his side in fourth place, and please his manager, Brendan

:03:45. > :03:49.Rogers. The mentality was very focused coming into this game. We

:03:50. > :03:53.understood that could have been implications for our Champions

:03:54. > :03:56.League aspirations. So to go four points clear against one of our

:03:57. > :03:59.rivals was very important. The players coped with that pressure

:04:00. > :04:02.really well. Meanwhile, Premier League leaders Arsenal dropped

:04:03. > :04:05.points in the title race as they were held to a 2-2 draw by

:04:06. > :04:08.Southampton at St Mary's. Adam Lallana scored the equaliser after

:04:09. > :04:12.Arsenal scored two quick second half goals to go 2-1 up. For boss Arsene

:04:13. > :04:24.Wenger it was a simple reaction the the final score. It's a point. We

:04:25. > :04:28.regret I have is that at 2-1, they were quickly caught back to 2-2.

:04:29. > :04:32.Last up, just enough time to show you some amazing pictures of people

:04:33. > :04:35.dressed as Vikings! It was the Up Helly Aa festival in Scotland's

:04:36. > :04:37.Shetland Islands. Every year local people carry torches through the

:04:38. > :04:40.town of Lerwick to celebrate the islands' Viking heritage, before

:04:41. > :04:45.throwing their torches onto a pretend Viking ship to make a big

:04:46. > :04:56.fire. Head to the website to check out more pictures.

:04:57. > :05:00.We've got a gallery of snowy scenes in America, too. Check that out.
