:00:00. > :00:07.Good afternoon, Newsrounders. Ayshah here with news of a brilliant
:00:08. > :00:14.cricket win for England's women, but another loss for the men. Cute panda
:00:15. > :00:15.alert. We check out these newborn red panda twins in New Zealand.
:00:16. > :00:26.You're with Newsround. First, how was your day at school
:00:27. > :00:29.today? A big report says millions of kids around the world won't have had
:00:30. > :00:33.school at all today because they don't even have one. World leaders
:00:34. > :00:36.had promised that by next year every child would have access to basic
:00:37. > :00:43.education but now the United Nations says that won't happen for another
:00:44. > :00:46.70 years. The UN is calling on the world's governments to act now to
:00:47. > :00:52.help all children get a proper education. In the world's poorest
:00:53. > :00:55.countries, one in four young people can't even read a single sentence.
:00:56. > :00:58.Some countries have seen improvement, but there are still big
:00:59. > :01:07.problems in parts of Africa and Asia. In Pakistan, some schools
:01:08. > :01:11.stand completely empty. This is supposed to be a school. A
:01:12. > :01:14.government high school in this area. There are children here we have
:01:15. > :01:18.found but they have just been playing, sitting on this bench. But
:01:19. > :01:24.the building itself, there are no teachers, even though it is on
:01:25. > :01:30.government records. It is receiving funding for teachers, but there
:01:31. > :01:34.hasn't been any studying at this school for several years now. And we
:01:35. > :01:37.are told there are 22 schools just like it in this area. Even where
:01:38. > :01:41.there are schools in Pakistan, some girls have a tough fight persuading
:01:42. > :01:51.their parents to let them go, as Nel reports. This girl is 12, and lives
:01:52. > :01:55.in Pakistan and has been studying at the school for the past three years
:01:56. > :02:00.but doesn't know how much longer she will be here. My father does not
:02:01. > :02:04.want me to learn. He think it's not a good thing for girls to study. I
:02:05. > :02:07.have to fight him every day to come to school. That's because in
:02:08. > :02:11.Pakistan, girls are treated very differently to boys. And poor
:02:12. > :02:17.children up to two very different to rich ones. My dad doesn't have
:02:18. > :02:22.enough money to send us to school. He thinks we should be working. My
:02:23. > :02:26.mum pays our school fees. School buildings are old and there's not a
:02:27. > :02:30.lot of money for repairs. The teachers can sometimes be badly
:02:31. > :02:35.trained, and it all might seem a world away from kids in the UK, and
:02:36. > :02:39.their experience of going to school. I have come to a school in
:02:40. > :02:43.Manchester to meet a girl who studies in the UK because it's her
:02:44. > :02:49.family in Pakistan who pays, and she understands how difficult and
:02:50. > :02:53.different skill can be. The education here is much better, the
:02:54. > :02:56.opportunities you can have, and the facilities, like here there is a
:02:57. > :03:01.swimming pool, and the library, and I can do different clubs. It's very
:03:02. > :03:04.free. I've got a lot of opportunities and choices. I can
:03:05. > :03:10.kind of do whatever I want. Although life is very different, they have
:03:11. > :03:16.the same genes for the future. I want to have the education to have a
:03:17. > :03:19.good job -- dreams. My dream has been to be a doctor. My father
:03:20. > :03:22.doesn't think I can do it, but I want a job. That's all. Next, some
:03:23. > :03:27.of Syria's most vulnerable refugees will be allowed to come and live
:03:28. > :03:29.here in the UK. Since the war broke out three years ago, about
:03:30. > :03:34.two-and-a-half million people have been forced to flee the country.
:03:35. > :03:37.Ongoing violence means it isn't safe to return to Syria and today Prime
:03:38. > :03:43.Minister David Cameron said the most needy will be given priority to come
:03:44. > :03:46.and live here. It's after the Government was criticised earlier
:03:47. > :03:50.this week for not joining other countries, like Germany and America,
:03:51. > :03:56.who are taking refugees. Britain will probably allow a few hundred of
:03:57. > :03:59.the most in need to stay. Next, it's a great day if you're a cricket fan.
:04:00. > :04:02.Women's cricket that is. England's women have won their Twenty20 match
:04:03. > :04:09.against Australia, meaning they won the Ashes series. But it was yet
:04:10. > :04:13.another dismal defeat for the men's team as their tour Down Under just
:04:14. > :04:19.gets worse and worse. One big cricket fan thinks the boys could
:04:20. > :04:22.learn a thing or two from the girls. This is an amazing result for the
:04:23. > :04:26.England women's cricket team. Charlotte Edwards and her team have
:04:27. > :04:32.done so well, that hard work as Willie paid off. To retain the Ashes
:04:33. > :04:37.in winter, when the men's team have been a disaster. -- have really paid
:04:38. > :04:41.off. It will inspire young girls watching this programme to pick up a
:04:42. > :04:45.cricket bat and start playing, and maybe Charlotte and the team should
:04:46. > :04:48.coach the men? Finally, to two adorable newborns at a zoo in New
:04:49. > :04:51.Zealand. This family of red pandas at Auckland Zoo are celebrating the
:04:52. > :04:55.arrival of twins. Here they are cuddling up with mum, Bo, in the
:04:56. > :04:58.nest box. They'll stay there sleeping and lazing about until
:04:59. > :05:00.they're three months old. What an amazing life they have. I'll be back
:05:01. > :05:01.with more from the Newsround
