0:00:03 > 0:00:04Good afternoon - it's Friday!

0:00:04 > 0:00:07I'm Hayley and we're live with Newsround on CBBC -

0:00:07 > 0:00:10let's get cracking.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14Just how long does it take a robot to solve a Rubik's Cube?

0:00:14 > 0:00:19And the town that still thinks it's Christmas.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Another winter storm has been battering parts of the UK today.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Gertrude, as it's been named, has caused big problems.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Schools in some parts of Scotland were closed today because wind

0:00:36 > 0:00:39speeds reached more than 90 miles an hour.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43Train and ferry services had to be stopped and some roads

0:00:43 > 0:00:45were also closed.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47In Northern Ireland, power lines were brought down

0:00:47 > 0:00:48by the strong winds.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51The BBC's Northern Ireland correspondent Chris Buckler sent

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Newsround this report.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58It's been very windy all day here in Northern Ireland,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and I'm trying to keep the microphone very close to me,

0:01:00 > 0:01:05because it's very difficult to hear if I pull it away from my body.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08At some stages here along the coast in Northern Ireland,

0:01:08 > 0:01:12the gusts reached 80 mph, and that has caused

0:01:12 > 0:01:14all sorts of problems.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16There have been electricity lines knocked down

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and that means that people woke up this morning without power

0:01:19 > 0:01:21in their homes.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24That meant lots of difficulties for them as they got

0:01:24 > 0:01:25ready for school and work.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28As they tried to get to school and work,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30they found some roads closed.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Trees and branches were blocking streets.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37All day, people have been removing those to try and make it easier

0:01:37 > 0:01:41for them returning to their houses this evening.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45The worst is now over for Northern Ireland,

0:01:45 > 0:01:46but nonetheless, you can tell

0:01:46 > 0:01:48that there is still rain, there is still wind,

0:01:48 > 0:01:53and it's still pretty cold.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Andy Murray has made it through to the final

0:01:55 > 0:01:57of the Australian Open.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01He beat Canadian Milos Raonic in a mammoth five set match.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04He came from behind twice to win.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09Murray will play world number one Novak Djokovic on Sunday.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Next to a little town in Kent in the south of England,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14where it's still Christmas, and it could even continue

0:02:14 > 0:02:16until mid-February.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Jenny's been to investigate.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22A typical high street on a rainy day in late January.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Shopping bags, mums and dads rushing to and from work...

0:02:25 > 0:02:29And a ten metre tall Christmas tree?

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Here in Paddock Wood, it still looks a lot like Christmas.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33That's because there's a collared dove

0:02:33 > 0:02:37nesting on her eggs, hidden in the branches

0:02:37 > 0:02:38just behind me.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41The mum to be was discovered when the council

0:02:41 > 0:02:44started to take the tree's decorations down.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46They had to stop work immediately.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48All nesting birds in the UK are protected by law,

0:02:48 > 0:02:52which makes it illegal to interfere with an active nest.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54That means the tree will have to stay in place

0:02:54 > 0:02:56until the eggs hatch and all the chicks have

0:02:56 > 0:02:57flown the nest.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59So what do the local children think?

0:02:59 > 0:03:03It's quite good to bring a bit of Christmas spirit into January.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05I've just seen the dove, and I think

0:03:05 > 0:03:10it's cool, because not many exciting things happen in Paddock Wood.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12I think that's actually quite sweet

0:03:12 > 0:03:16to have some wildlife near a village.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18I think it's nice that it's found a home.

0:03:18 > 0:03:24I hope that her chicks survive and that she has more eggs later on.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Hopefully, it stays in the tree,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28so we can keep it up till next Christmas.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Daisy, you can do the call, can't you?

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Yeah.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34SHE COOS LIKE A DOVE

0:03:34 > 0:03:36Amazing!

0:03:36 > 0:03:38I went to the nearby wildlife rescue

0:03:38 > 0:03:40to find out how long their feathered guest might stay.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Once the eggs have hatched, the birds normally take

0:03:43 > 0:03:46between 15 and 19 days before they end up fledging from the nest.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49How common is it for collared doves like Lola here

0:03:49 > 0:03:52to nest in a busy town centre?

0:03:52 > 0:03:54It's not that strange.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56They do nest in trees.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58They make basic nests out of sticks and twigs,

0:03:58 > 0:04:00which form a platform.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04But the most important factor is that there is a good food supply

0:04:04 > 0:04:06around, so you might find that there is somebody nearby

0:04:06 > 0:04:09that feeds them or there's a feeding station in someone's garden.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12To them, it's a nice site.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15That means the dove and tree could be here

0:04:15 > 0:04:17well past Valentine's Day.

0:04:17 > 0:04:18So for now, it's still...

0:04:18 > 0:04:23Merry Christmas!

0:04:23 > 0:04:27And just before we go - how long does it take you to solve

0:04:27 > 0:04:28a Rubik's Cube?

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Can you do it this fast?

0:04:31 > 0:04:35In just over one second, this robot can solve the puzzle.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37The inventors are hoping it's going to go straight

0:04:37 > 0:04:39into the records books, beating the current world record

0:04:39 > 0:04:43for a robot of 2.39 seconds.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45That's all from me.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Newsround's back right here tomorrow morning at 8.55 with Ricky.

0:04:48 > 0:04:54Have a great weekend.
