:00:00. > :00:10.Hi, I'm Leah and your live with Newsround. On today's show. The dogs

:00:11. > :00:20.scoring touchdowns - and the toy car that's been super-sized. This is

:00:21. > :00:23.Newsround. First, to Somerset in South West England where large parts

:00:24. > :00:28.have been underwater for almost a month. People's homes, shops and

:00:29. > :00:38.fields have been completely flooded after overflowing rivers burst their

:00:39. > :00:41.banks. Now the army's being sent in to help out, bringing supplies and

:00:42. > :00:45.sandbags to keep the water away. In the village of Muchelney, it's so

:00:46. > :00:49.badly flooded the only way to get to school is by boat. We've spent the

:00:50. > :01:02.morning with Emily and Gemma who live there. Hello, I'm Emily. And

:01:03. > :01:06.I'm Gemma. We live in Muchelney. We've been cut off by flooding. Life

:01:07. > :01:10.has changed a lot since the floods. To get to school now we have to get

:01:11. > :01:14.dressed in wet weather clothes like wellies in the morning. It's a real

:01:15. > :01:22.pain. Our school is in Langport - but because of the floods we have to

:01:23. > :01:26.now get a boat! Come on, we'll show you. Our village has been cut off

:01:27. > :01:29.from.everyone else since New year's eve. Some of our friends join us on

:01:30. > :01:33.the journey. We've done this for four weeks now. We have to get

:01:34. > :01:37.across this water. Before Christmas it wasn't here Sometimes we have to

:01:38. > :01:41.wait half an hour for the boat and sometimes it's full. If you miss it

:01:42. > :01:45.we often have to wait in the rain. At first the water was quite fun -

:01:46. > :01:50.but now it's got too deep and dirty to play in. We have to do a lot of

:01:51. > :02:05.walking to get to and from the boat. We've had to miss lots of days

:02:06. > :02:09.at school and we often have to.leave early to.get the boat back We can't

:02:10. > :02:13.do any school clubs or see our friends after school. Our friends at

:02:14. > :02:19.school have had lots of problems as well. I have not been to my house

:02:20. > :02:23.since Christmas. I had to spend my birthday in someone else's house. It

:02:24. > :02:27.used to take 15 minutes to get to school, and now it takes 30 minutes.

:02:28. > :02:32.The water has come up through the floor and we have not been able to

:02:33. > :02:37.spend time there. We don't know when the water will go away, but we hope

:02:38. > :02:44.it is soon, or we will keep having to get the boat. And the bad weather

:02:45. > :02:48.looks set to continue, with more rain, as well as snow forecast for

:02:49. > :02:52.much of the UK over the weekend. But if it's any consolation it's not

:02:53. > :02:56.going to get as cold as it is in America, where thousands of people

:02:57. > :02:59.have been stuck in their cars and schools by a rare snowstorm. The

:03:00. > :03:02.cold snap stretched across several southern states, plunging

:03:03. > :03:06.temperatures to minus 34 Celsius. On the Newsround website you can find

:03:07. > :03:11.out more about the story behind that. Next, doctors at a hospital in

:03:12. > :03:14.Cambridge think they could be a step closer to finding a cure for peanut

:03:15. > :03:19.allergies. It's one of the most common food allergies in the world,

:03:20. > :03:22.and it can be really dangerous. Doctors carried out special medical

:03:23. > :03:25.trials in hospital on a number of children with peanut allergies by

:03:26. > :03:28.very carefully giving them tiny extracts of the nut over five years.

:03:29. > :03:33.And for most of them, the allergy went away. There are still lots more

:03:34. > :03:36.tests to do before this treatment becomes more widespread, but one of

:03:37. > :03:44.the doctors behind the hospital trial says it's exciting news. It

:03:45. > :03:47.could be a game changer for the way that we treat food allergies in

:03:48. > :03:52.future. It is innovative. It is a world first. We believe this could

:03:53. > :03:57.result in a treatment for food allergy. It is vital that you do not

:03:58. > :03:59.try this at home if you have a peanut allergy. It can only be done

:04:00. > :04:06.under special supervision in hospital. So as he says, it's really

:04:07. > :04:09.important to remember that this trial was carried out safely by

:04:10. > :04:12.medical experts and eating any amount of peanuts can be incredibly

:04:13. > :04:20.dangerous for anyone with a nut allergy. Make sure you join us at

:04:21. > :04:23.6.50pm for a full report on this story. Next to the biggest football

:04:24. > :04:26.game of the year, played by pets. American football fans across the

:04:27. > :04:30.world will be glued to their TVs when the Super Bowl kicks off on

:04:31. > :04:33.Sunday. But until then they can watch the Puppy Bowl. All the

:04:34. > :04:37.animals on show are up for adoption - and it's not just pups, there are

:04:38. > :04:41.footballing felines as well as some ball-boy birds. Incredible. And

:04:42. > :04:45.finally, loads of you will have had a ride in one of these at some

:04:46. > :04:51.point. Well one man loves them so much, he's built a giant adult-size

:04:52. > :04:55.version! John's replica can reach a top speed of 70 miles per hour and

:04:56. > :04:58.cost him ?4,000 to build. It even has headlights and an airbag. But no

:04:59. > :05:00.windows! That's all from me and the Newsround team. We are back at

:05:01. > :05:02.6:50pm.
