:02:58. > :03:00.visit Pride Festival. Although most people are here to celebrate and
:03:01. > :03:04.have a great time I have come for a different reason, to meet my uncle
:03:05. > :03:08.Andrew who took part in one of the very first Pride rallies and I want
:03:09. > :03:13.to find out what his life was like back then. What was it like for you
:03:14. > :03:21.back in when you first came out? It was in one way very lonely because I
:03:22. > :03:28.only knew one person who was gay and I was already 25. People hid
:03:29. > :03:34.themselves, you did not know. How did you feel coming out in a society
:03:35. > :03:37.when it was not legalised? Asked of us who wanted to read ordinary lives
:03:38. > :03:43.were aware that we might end up in prison. Over a thousand of us per
:03:44. > :03:51.year were sent to prison. Did anyone see anything nasty to you? I was
:03:52. > :03:55.refused a job once when they found out, they did not find out I was
:03:56. > :03:58.gay, I told them I was. One existing member of staff said I am not
:03:59. > :04:03.working in the same office as someone who is gay and they withdrew
:04:04. > :04:10.the offer of a job. Have people's attitudes towards being gay and the
:04:11. > :04:17.LGB key community changed? Yes they have. It depends where you are, they
:04:18. > :04:21.have not changed in many countries around the world but they have
:04:22. > :04:29.changed, Britain has done very well. What advice would you give to people
:04:30. > :04:36.coming out now? I would say there is a warm and welcoming world out here
:04:37. > :04:41.for you as you come out. I had never really had my uncle talk about his
:04:42. > :04:45.life before, it was really lovely to meet him and get to know all of his
:04:46. > :04:51.experiences and what he has been through. I am so proud of everything
:04:52. > :04:52.he has done. Thank you for that.
