:00:11. > :00:13.Jenny here with everything you need to know about spiders

:00:14. > :00:17.How to get a face inside one of the world's rarest gems.

:00:18. > :00:20.But first to the fight to protect animals across the globe

:00:21. > :00:25.as a top charity say wildlife populations are falling fast.

:00:26. > :00:29.A new report by the World Wildlife Fund says the numbers of mammals,

:00:30. > :00:33.birds, reptiles and fish more than halved between 1970 and 2010.

:00:34. > :00:37.Experts believe the drop in numbers is due to hunting, pollution,

:00:38. > :00:41.climate change and the destruction of where the animals live.

:00:42. > :00:49.Next to Hong Kong in Asia, where massive protests have

:00:50. > :00:51.continued overnight, with thousands of demonstrators

:00:52. > :01:00.They want more freedom to decide who is in charge.

:01:01. > :01:03.China currently runs Hong Kong, and has said they'll provide

:01:04. > :01:06.a list of leaders they approve of for people to vote on.

:01:07. > :01:09.But the protestors say they should be able to choose whoever they want.

:01:10. > :01:15.The BBC's Martin Patience has been on the streets this morning.

:01:16. > :01:22.Another day, and yet more protesters here in the heart of Hong Kong's

:01:23. > :01:27.financial district. What this issue boils down to is the protesters want

:01:28. > :01:34.what they see is a free and fair election to elect Hong Kong's next

:01:35. > :01:37.Chief Executive in 2017. Beijing says, look, everybody in Hong Kong

:01:38. > :01:42.will get the vote, but the protesters say that Beijing will

:01:43. > :01:47.screen the candidate, so that is no real choice. So you have this

:01:48. > :01:54.extraordinary stand-off between the protesters and the authorities in

:01:55. > :02:01.and Hong Kong, and the longer this goes on, the pressure will build on

:02:02. > :02:04.Beijing to clear the streets, because the worry is that people in

:02:05. > :02:08.mainland China will see the protests and it will inspire them.

:02:09. > :02:11.if you're scared of spiders, then look away now, because it's

:02:12. > :02:15.They're growing fat on flies and big on bugs.

:02:16. > :02:18.2014 has been a bumper year for these guys.

:02:19. > :02:29.Spiders. Love them or hate them, they are taking over the world. They

:02:30. > :02:34.even took over this news bulletin. Maybe that is going a bit too far.

:02:35. > :02:39.But experts have said that a mild autumn is leading to a good spider

:02:40. > :02:44.season. Is a great time for spiders at the moment. The population

:02:45. > :02:48.probably isn't increasing, they are just out and about more. There are

:02:49. > :02:53.lots of insects around for them to eat. Loads of you have been in touch

:02:54. > :02:57.telling us your spider stories. Julia from Hereford says, every

:02:58. > :03:16.morning I see a huge spider in the bar, nearly as big as my palm.

:03:17. > :03:21.Many of you have been wondering how to deal with the spiders, so these

:03:22. > :03:26.kids from Bristol are looking for answers. There are kind of spiders

:03:27. > :03:32.who prefer to live indoors, especially when it gets cold

:03:33. > :03:40.outdoors. Most spiders prefer to live outside. What do they eat? Most

:03:41. > :03:47.of them eat meat, so they will beat flies, wasps and things. This is a

:03:48. > :03:53.daddy-longlegs spider. You quite often see these up near the

:03:54. > :03:57.ceilings, I have loads in my house. This one is nice because she is

:03:58. > :04:02.carrying an egg sac as well, that white blob. She has all her eggs

:04:03. > :04:05.wrapped up in silk, and she is carrying them around. There have

:04:06. > :04:11.been reports of the biting. Should we be worried? It is extremely rare

:04:12. > :04:17.for spiders to bite. Very few British spiders are even big enough

:04:18. > :04:22.to bite through human skin, and even if you do get bitten, it is just

:04:23. > :04:27.like a nettle sting. So if you spot a spider, don't fear, just tell a

:04:28. > :04:31.grown-up who can help you take the spider out. And to find out more

:04:32. > :04:36.about healing the spider safely, head over to the website! Get it?

:04:37. > :04:38.Finally - have you ever wondered how to get a picture

:04:39. > :04:41.Of course not. But just in case...

:04:42. > :04:46.This is the latest masterpiece from Chinese artist Wallace Chan.

:04:47. > :04:49.He burned the face of a Greek goddess into the middle

:04:50. > :04:52.of this purple sapphire using a special laser.

:04:53. > :04:55.His fans include royalty and Hollywood superstars.

:04:56. > :05:00.That's all from me, Newsround's back right here at 8.15.
