0:00:16 > 0:00:19First to some sad news - the TV presenter Sir Terry Wogan has

0:00:19 > 0:00:21died after a short illness.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23He was really well-known for his work for Children In Need,

0:00:24 > 0:00:28helping to raise millions of pounds for the charity.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32Lots of people have been paying tribute to the star including

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Prime Minister David Cameron who said, "Britain has lost a huge

0:00:34 > 0:00:40talent - someone millions came to feel was their own special friend."

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Did you know that around the country right now,

0:00:43 > 0:00:48there are thousands of children like you caring

0:00:48 > 0:00:52for their mum or dad?

0:00:52 > 0:00:56They are called Young Carers and take on a lot of the jobs around

0:00:56 > 0:00:58the house that adults usually do.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Shannon and Scarlett are young carers who look after their mum.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02This is their story

0:01:02 > 0:01:04My name is Scarlett and I'm a young carer.

0:01:04 > 0:01:11My name's Shannon and my life's a bit different to everyone else's.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14My mum has mental health issues, so one minute she'll be happy,

0:01:14 > 0:01:15and the next she'll be sad and isolated.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18If I leave for school and she's a bit panicky,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21that's always in the back of my mind throughout the rest of the day.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23When I sit in my lessons, I'm thinking about Mum,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26and I'm not actually sure what she's doing,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29and it makes me worried.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31When I first started secondary school, I started realising that

0:01:31 > 0:01:34everyone else's families are different to mine.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37They don't really have a lot of issues going on.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41I was at a friend's house at the time and her mum would always

0:01:41 > 0:01:44take her and her sister out, they'd always go places.

0:01:44 > 0:01:49My mum wouldn't, she wouldn't want to go out.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Caring for my mum has made me more independent,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56and made me see how grateful we ought to be for things we get.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Other people I know get things they want and take it for granted

0:02:00 > 0:02:05sometimes, whereas when I get things I treasure it more,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08because I know that I'm lucky to have it.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12I will always be close to my family because they're really kind

0:02:12 > 0:02:15and I like being around them.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Everyone worries about something in their life, and I suppose

0:02:17 > 0:02:20I always just worry about my mum because it's the way

0:02:20 > 0:02:23it's always been.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26She's always there, she's always there for us,

0:02:26 > 0:02:35so we need to be there for her, really.
