:00:14. > :00:18.It's 5.00pm. We're live. We have a action-packed show. Here is what is

:00:18. > :00:23.coming up: after the effects of Superstorm Sandy, New York starts

:00:23. > :00:28.to clean-up. Within a matter of minutes, I think the basement got

:00:28. > :00:35.completely flooded. Also on the way: why Star Wars is making a

:00:35. > :00:39.return with a Mickey Mouse makeover? And And we're getting all

:00:39. > :00:49.spooky with your devilishly designed pumpkins. This is

:00:49. > :00:55.

:00:55. > :00:59.First, what do you do when you have been hit by one of the biggest

:00:59. > :01:03.storms in living memory? Somehow you have to start to clean up.

:01:03. > :01:08.Superstorm Sandy lived up to its name and caused widespread damage

:01:08. > :01:12.with flding, fires and power cuts across massive parts of America. --

:01:12. > :01:17.flooding. Although the wost of the weather has passed those, affected

:01:17. > :01:21.have to slowly start rebuilding. was a superstorm of extreme

:01:21. > :01:25.proportions. This was a devastating storm. Maybe the worst he have ever

:01:25. > :01:30.experienceed. This week people on America's East Coast have witnessed

:01:30. > :01:34.scenes you only normally expect to see in the movies. Oh, oh.

:01:34. > :01:40.But after two days of being battered, the US is taking stock of

:01:40. > :01:46.the damage caused by Sandy. Within a matter of minutes, I think the

:01:46. > :01:51.basement got flooded, there was apartment that was destroyed.

:01:51. > :01:56.Lights went out at 8.30 and they are still in the dark. The humane

:01:56. > :01:59.finance cost to the worst-hit areas are starting to become clear. --

:01:59. > :02:03.the human cost. More than 40 people have died in the US and around 70

:02:03. > :02:08.people were killed when the storm hit the car bone earlier in the

:02:08. > :02:13.week. The bill for repair and storm damage has been estimated at

:02:13. > :02:16.between 30-40 billion. The recovery is even more difficult

:02:16. > :02:21.because around 8 million people still don't have electricity. For

:02:21. > :02:27.hundreds of thousands of families, just going back home is a major

:02:28. > :02:31.operation. I'd like to stay here but apparently the water, if it

:02:31. > :02:35.damages the whole building, and everything, probably it takes

:02:35. > :02:40.months to dry, I think. So a lot of mould and everything, and it would

:02:40. > :02:42.take a very long time to get it fixed. The transport system is

:02:42. > :02:47.still struggling. Although buses are beginning to run again and

:02:47. > :02:51.airports are slowly reopening, it'll take days for the subway to

:02:51. > :02:56.be safe to use again. There are signs of a recovery. The

:02:56. > :03:00.stock exchange re-opened for business earlier. But with a clean-

:03:00. > :03:04.up only just beginning, it will be a long time before things will be

:03:04. > :03:07.back to normal. In the last hour, President Obama

:03:07. > :03:10.has arrived in New Jersey to see some of the worst areas of the

:03:10. > :03:15.storm. He's called off his campaigning for next week's

:03:15. > :03:19.Presidental elections to make the visit, as people outside of New

:03:19. > :03:27.York come to terms with what has happened. Now, from a natural

:03:27. > :03:31.disaster to a scientific discovery. NASA's Curiosity Rover's latest

:03:31. > :03:37.mission has found soil on the red planet is similar it that found on

:03:37. > :03:41.the American island Hawaii. special X-ray machine examined the

:03:41. > :03:48.samples. Scientists think it could show that Mars was once volcanic.

:03:48. > :03:51.And from science fact, to science- fiction. That's how it works. Swipe

:03:51. > :03:55.your lightsaber and feel the force within you, because Star Wars is

:03:55. > :03:58.coming back it the screen. It's been five years since the last film

:03:58. > :04:04.but today the man behind it announced he is handing the reins,

:04:04. > :04:09.for a brand new trilogy, over to Disney. A long time ago in a galaxy

:04:09. > :04:14.far, far away, for a decade people thought it was over. George Lucas

:04:14. > :04:18.said Star Wars was finished on the big screen but now a new trilogy is

:04:18. > :04:22.upon us, the year bb 2015. But the future might look different. The

:04:22. > :04:27.previous owner and creator of the films, a gi called George Lucas has

:04:27. > :04:33.sold the rights to the same people who made Pirates of the Caribbean,

:04:33. > :04:38.Walt Disney, all for a mere 2.5 billion. He may get a few holidays

:04:38. > :04:42.to Disney for that amount, but George can't relax as he is still

:04:42. > :04:46.going to have creative input in the films and get a smaller share of

:04:46. > :04:53.their profits. Film number 7 is set to be released in 2015 where

:04:53. > :04:57.they'll continue the story of Luke Skywalker and Princess Lela. And

:04:57. > :05:02.Disney know taking over the franchise is a big responsibility.

:05:02. > :05:05.We understand the responsibility it. Comes with being the caretakers of

:05:05. > :05:10.such iconic characters that are beloved by hundreds of millions all

:05:10. > :05:14.over the world. Good news for space fans. Disney say they plan to bring

:05:14. > :05:18.out a new Star Wars every two to four years, so may the force be

:05:18. > :05:23.with us once again. Now you probably don't need me to tell that

:05:23. > :05:28.you tonight is Hallowe'en. Is it? It really is. What? Listen. I have

:05:28. > :05:33.been busy practising my scariest face for trick or treat but have

:05:33. > :05:40.you ever wondered what it takes it make a truly award-winning pumpkin?

:05:40. > :05:46.Often. We wanted to get last-minute tips from experts, young farmer's

:05:46. > :05:52.kids, Max, Lucy and George have been giving us their tips. I'm Max.

:05:52. > :05:59.I'm Lucy. I'm George. If there is one thing we know... It's pumpkins.

:05:59. > :06:04.I grew this a 12 stone beast. as good as mine, a whopping 13

:06:04. > :06:08.stone six. Sorry, guys, we all know mine's the biggest Annoying but

:06:08. > :06:14.true, he grew a 15 stone pumpkin. That's if you are times his body

:06:14. > :06:18.weight. It's not just a coincidence. Max has a little secret to his

:06:18. > :06:22.success. Every evening he tucked his pumpkin in to keep it warm at

:06:22. > :06:26.night. That's right. And what makes his pumpkin even more special is

:06:26. > :06:31.that it has been a terrible year for the crop.

:06:31. > :06:34.It's been a really difficult year for growing crops. We have had a

:06:34. > :06:38.lot of cold temperatures and they are all fairly small, compared with

:06:38. > :06:43.what they normally Rthe kids have done fairly well. They've actually

:06:43. > :06:46.looked after them a bit more and also grown them in a greenhouse.

:06:46. > :06:52.Obviously they've got more heat bus the heat hasn't been there all

:06:52. > :06:57.summer, as we all know. But that hasn't stopped our Max and his mega

:06:57. > :07:02.pumpkin. We'd loved to carve it out, but that means pumpkin soup until

:07:02. > :07:05.Christmas. Nightmare!

:07:05. > :07:09.Those three have set a high bar when it comes to pumpkins but some

:07:09. > :07:13.of you have been giving them a run for their money. We have been

:07:13. > :07:16.asking to you send in your best pictures. We've had some beauties.

:07:16. > :07:21.All right. Elizabeth who is seven frain Maidstone sent in this one,

:07:21. > :07:27.she said she made this one with her dad, Tiana from Princess and The

:07:27. > :07:33.Frog. Not to be outdone, Sadie from Bradford sent in this, it is Lorax

:07:33. > :07:38.from Dr Seuss. And Prune, from Windsor sent us her best effort.

:07:38. > :07:41.That's it. Not sure what that is. Modern art. On top of that, we want

:07:41. > :07:46.you to send pictures of your Hallowe'en costumes. We'll show you

:07:46. > :07:51.some of the best ones on Newsround tomorrow. E-mail in with your

:07:51. > :07:56.parents name and number so we can contact them. I think I've decided

:07:56. > :08:00.on my trick or treat outfit but only if there was a way of wanting

:08:00. > :08:04.what the weather will be like. Fancy that. Your wish is my command,

:08:04. > :08:09.I've got BBC weather man, Simon I've got BBC weather man, Simon

:08:09. > :08:13.King to do this. Hello the whre forecast for Hallowe'en is looking

:08:13. > :08:16.frightful. If you are heading out trick or treating you might need a

:08:16. > :08:20.water-proof and hold on to your hats. We have wet and windy weather.

:08:20. > :08:24.You can see from the charts, the blue is all of the rain. Further

:08:24. > :08:29.north across Scotland and Northern Ireland, not too much rain here but,

:08:29. > :08:33.quite cold. So you might need an extra layer or a ware wolf outfit

:08:33. > :08:38.wouldn't go a miss. Further south, across England and Wales, you can

:08:38. > :08:42.see the wet weather, so you might need to water-proof your skeleton

:08:42. > :08:45.outits fits and on top of that we have a howling wind from the south

:08:45. > :08:48.and west. For the rest of the evening, it is looking gruesome.

:08:48. > :08:52.This area of rain is gradually moving eastwards.
