:00:00. > :00:00.Scotland has voted no to independence.
:00:07. > :00:21.on this historic day for the United Kingdom.
:00:22. > :00:29.Good afternoon. Well, the news is just about starting to sink in. The
:00:30. > :00:34.No campaign has one, but just over my shoulder, there are a load of Yes
:00:35. > :00:40.Campaign is holding flags, still having their say. But it was the No
:00:41. > :00:45.campaign which triumphed. I have some breaking news on this story, we
:00:46. > :00:49.have heard that after losing the vote last night, Alex Salmond is
:00:50. > :00:53.standing down as Scotland's First Minister and leader of the Scottish
:00:54. > :00:58.National party. We will have more on that over the weekend. People stayed
:00:59. > :01:06.up all night and there were huge cheers after a very, very long night
:01:07. > :01:10.yesterday. Today is our day of destiny! The
:01:11. > :01:18.people of Scotland have voted in record numbers on the future of
:01:19. > :01:31.their nation. No, 10,004. No, 9,000, 951. Yes, yes. No. 194,000.
:01:32. > :01:36.That was the result of the Edinburgh camp, it is a capital city here in
:01:37. > :01:41.Scotland and as you can hear, these people now think the No campaign has
:01:42. > :01:48.one. The official result of this referendum is a no. Obviously, the
:01:49. > :01:51.party supported us and pulled through but it has been a great
:01:52. > :01:56.experience and hopefully we can take stuff from it and move on. It was a
:01:57. > :02:00.great atmosphere in the No campaign, everyone was applauding hadn't had a
:02:01. > :02:06.really great and easy as and it was nice to be part of that. 1.6 million
:02:07. > :02:10.of our fellow citizens voting for independence. I accept the result
:02:11. > :02:15.and I pledge to work constructively and in the interests of Scotland and
:02:16. > :02:19.the rest of the United Kingdom. We now have a chance, a great
:02:20. > :02:24.opportunity, to change the way British people are governed and
:02:25. > :02:28.change it for the better. A decision that has split the nation, there is
:02:29. > :02:32.going to be happiness and disappointment throughout, but
:02:33. > :02:37.hopefully there are plans and ways for Scotland to move forward and
:02:38. > :02:39.evolve as it once did. Together, we can work for a better society and a
:02:40. > :02:41.better United Kingdom. So it's been an unforgettable night
:02:42. > :02:45.for Scotland and the UK. Hayley's got a breakdown
:02:46. > :02:51.of the big numbers Record numbers turned out to
:02:52. > :02:53.decide the future of Scotland. Compare that to just 65% of the UK
:02:54. > :02:59.in the last General Election For the first time ever
:03:00. > :03:04.in a UK referendum, We thought it would be close,
:03:05. > :03:11.and it was. 45% of Scots voted yes to
:03:12. > :03:16.independence but 55% voted no - That breaks down to
:03:17. > :03:36.around 1.6 million yeses Thanks, Hayley. Some interesting
:03:37. > :03:41.numbers. I am joined by first-time voters, Caitlin, who voted yes, and
:03:42. > :03:45.Rory, who voted no. You have had a couple of hours, how are you
:03:46. > :03:51.feeling? I am pretty absurd but the people of Scotland have decided.
:03:52. > :03:56.What about you, Rory? --I am pretty upset. I wasn't actually that
:03:57. > :03:59.connected with the whole thing. You think that teenagers are going to be
:04:00. > :04:04.more interested in how the country is run? Definitely, my group of
:04:05. > :04:08.friends have become so much more interested in politics over the
:04:09. > :04:10.debate. Thank you very much for joining us.
