0:00:05 > 0:00:08Time to get my ninja on. And my clothes!

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Hey, guys, you ready for band practice?

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Yeah, been doing my vocal warm-up exercises.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35# Mi, mi, mi, mi, mi, mi, mi

0:00:35 > 0:00:38# Mi, mi, mi, mi, mi, mi, mi, mi. #

0:00:38 > 0:00:41- SHE SCREECHES:- # Mi! #

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Yeah, great!

0:00:43 > 0:00:45So, bass guitar for you.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Oh. Talking of which, where are the instruments?

0:00:48 > 0:00:51- Well, I ordered them earlier. Should be here by now.- Oh!

0:00:51 > 0:00:53There was this box on the doorstep.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Well, THAT can't be them, it's too small.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Don't know what THESE are.

0:01:00 > 0:01:05Oh, no. It IS the instruments. But these are tiny!

0:01:05 > 0:01:09They looked bigger on the internet! Must have ordered the wrong thing.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12No band practice, no festival slot for us.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15I'm going to have to pack you guys off until I think of

0:01:15 > 0:01:17a different plan.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21Here's a quick art tip of how to draw an electric guitar.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24I'm going to start with four lines going diagonally across my page.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28I draw each one slightly longer than the last.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33At the bottom here, going to draw a little rectangle,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35and that's going to be the bridge.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Now, at the top, where the lines start to end,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39I'm going to draw a kind of bean shape with

0:01:39 > 0:01:42a flat bottom and that is going to become the head.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44On the top here, four little lollies,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46and they're the tuning pegs.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48And then about a third of the way up, going to draw

0:01:48 > 0:01:51a kind of horn shape, and this is going to be the body of the guitar.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54The lines on the strings are going to be the frets and now I'm going to

0:01:54 > 0:01:57draw a little oval shape underneath the strings there for the pick-up.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Now, I'm going to decorate with some knobs,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04and add some little wobbly lines so it looks like it's playing music.

0:02:04 > 0:02:05And some musical notes.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13There you go! Another quick art tip.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Why not have a play at drawing a guitar yourself?

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Hey, I wonder what this girl's got.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Hey, Ricky, can you make art out of a paper cup?

0:02:33 > 0:02:37- All right, then, I choose you!- Yay!

0:02:37 > 0:02:40- So what's your name?- Kadi.- Hi, Kadi.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43So, art with a paper cup. I know!

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Rather than filling it with juice, I'm going to fill it with music.

0:02:46 > 0:02:51- And I'm going to put together an old-school boom box!- Cool!

0:02:51 > 0:02:52Let me just go grab my things.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55OK, Kadi, got my things.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56Sticky stuff there.

0:02:56 > 0:03:01First of all I'm going to take the paper cups and kitchen roll,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and I'm going to draw a circle on each of the paper cups,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07just around my kitchen roll tube.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10'Cups are great because they amplify the sound.'

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Just going to put some modelling clay on the inside of the cup

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and poke a hole with a pencil so I can cut out the circles.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Just easier to get my scissors in there.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So now I'm going to need my phone,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24because that's where the music is going to come from, in the boom box.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Put it in the right place, in the middle, I'm going to draw a little

0:03:27 > 0:03:30guideline and I'm going to cut a slot for the phone to slide into.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35There we are. Put a bit of clay on the inside.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40I'll just cut that slot out.

0:03:43 > 0:03:47OK? And I'm going to slide that tube inside the two circles that

0:03:47 > 0:03:48I've cut in the paper cups.

0:03:48 > 0:03:53One on the other side. OK, so I've got them together now like this.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58And now we're going to use that to draw some guide holes on the

0:03:58 > 0:03:59top of this cardboard box I've got.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02It's just an old shoebox.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13There we are. So cut two holes

0:04:13 > 0:04:15in the top of the box.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19So we're going to take the main part of the shoebox and I'm going

0:04:19 > 0:04:22to stick the paper cups to the inside of it,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24making sure that the slot that I cut is facing upwards.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27I'm going to do that with a little bit of PVA glue.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30I've got some masking tape to hold it in place while it dries.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40I've got a little bit of card here that I'm going to stick to

0:04:40 > 0:04:42the top, and that's going to be the handle.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48I'm going to pop that to one side while it dries and I'm going

0:04:48 > 0:04:51to cut this little bit of black card into long strips.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57In a second I'm going to stick these strips on the inside of the

0:04:57 > 0:05:00lid of the box, and they're going to become the grille of the speakers.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05OK, so I've got the grille now.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07So I think I want to draw a little bit of detail on this to make

0:05:07 > 0:05:10it look more like a boom box, but I don't have a pen.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13- Do you have a pen, by any chance? - Yep!- Oh, can I take it from you?

0:05:13 > 0:05:14Yep.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Ninja skills! Going to start on the speakers.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23I'm going to build them up a little bit more.

0:05:23 > 0:05:24OK.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27I'll just finish drawing this part of the speaker here.

0:05:27 > 0:05:28I think I need some, like,

0:05:28 > 0:05:31a bit of detail in the middle to make it look all technical.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39The front of the boom box is looking awesome.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43So, get some music on my phone. Slide it in there.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45LOUD MUSIC PLAYS

0:05:48 > 0:05:51- Ready to see the boom box?- Yeah.- OK.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56What do you think of that?

0:05:56 > 0:05:57Epic.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00- Sorry?- Epic boom box!

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Yeah, it does sound great!

0:06:04 > 0:06:09- So what would you give it out of ten?- I give it ten.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11- What?- I give it ten!

0:06:11 > 0:06:12Yeah, ten, awesome!

0:06:12 > 0:06:17Thanks very much, Kadi, it was a great idea. Cheers!

0:06:37 > 0:06:40Whoa, what's this? Some kind of balloon disaster?

0:06:40 > 0:06:45No, it's just an animation and it's going off with a bang.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49To make this popping little animation you'll need

0:06:49 > 0:06:53a load of balloons, a balloon pump, or a lot of puff,

0:06:53 > 0:06:56a permanent marker, some plastic or paper cups, a camera or

0:06:56 > 0:07:00smartphone, a pin, a skateboard, and a selfie stick.

0:07:00 > 0:07:04And you can put it together in just three ninja moves.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Ninja move number one. Blow up all your balloons.

0:07:06 > 0:07:08About 30 to 40 should do it.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10I'm using a balloon pump here,

0:07:10 > 0:07:13because I've got quite a lot to get through.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15But be careful when you're blowing up your balloons,

0:07:15 > 0:07:16because balloons pop.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23'Ninja move number two.' Now it's time to start drawing my frames.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26Now, I need to be careful here, because the balloons are

0:07:26 > 0:07:29super-delicate, and the dry tip of the pen can pop them.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32I'm going to be animating a little character on a space hopper.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35Also, I'm going to number my balloons,

0:07:35 > 0:07:37so I know what order they go in later.

0:07:39 > 0:07:42'Ninja move number three.' Now I can start shooting the animation.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Because this is a real-time animation,

0:07:44 > 0:07:46it means we don't need to shoot in stop-frame.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48I can just use a camera that shoots video.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51So for that I'll be using my phone.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53The distance between the balloons is key,

0:07:53 > 0:07:55so it's good to do some tests first.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58I'm mounting the pin on the selfie stick, but I'm using it backwards.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00So it's always the same distance from the camera.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02I'll be holding the camera in my hand,

0:08:02 > 0:08:05and just riding along on my skateboard and popping the balloons.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Now, of course, needles or pins are super-sharp,

0:08:08 > 0:08:10so you might need to get an adult to help you.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13I'm going to line up the balloons in the correct order

0:08:13 > 0:08:15and sticky-tape them to some cups so they don't fall over.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20'This is a great thing to do on the weekend!'

0:08:23 > 0:08:24We're going for it!

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Did that work? I don't know. We've got a few left over.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50- Yeah!- So good.

0:08:50 > 0:08:51Whew!

0:08:53 > 0:08:55We have made a massive mess, though.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Yeah, you can clean this up, Ricky!

0:09:00 > 0:09:04'Now go to the website and get YOUR ninja on!'

0:09:06 > 0:09:08Art ninja!
