0:00:05 > 0:00:07Time to get my ninja on.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08And my clothes.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Hiiyaa!

0:00:13 > 0:00:15KA-CHING!

0:00:15 > 0:00:17WOOSH!

0:00:17 > 0:00:18WOOSH!

0:00:19 > 0:00:21BOING!

0:00:24 > 0:00:28An art ninja is particularly effective at night.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29OWL HOOTS

0:00:29 > 0:00:32It's still dark outside.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Only the light of the moon.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35WOLF HOWLS

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Which gives me an idea!

0:00:37 > 0:00:39While I'm awake, I'm going to make a moon catcher,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44First, I need to forage.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Got some lovely leaves there that I've got from outside.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52Some beautiful greens, some yellows and even some reds and oranges.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54I'm going to need a tray.

0:00:54 > 0:00:55And some water.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58And a mug.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03- Hi, Ricky.- Who are you?

0:01:03 > 0:01:08I'm Andy Goldsworthy, I weave natural materials into sculpture.

0:01:08 > 0:01:14My art has included flowers, leaves, mud, pine cones, snow and icicles.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17You do know you're meant to avoid yellow snow, right?

0:01:17 > 0:01:19I do.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23But my work often changes colour as the natural materials I use decay

0:01:23 > 0:01:27so I use photography to capture it.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28Well, bye then!

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Andy was on a leaf, but now he's left.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34I'm going to start by putting my cup on my tray,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36and then pouring in some water.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39I want it to be about a centimetre deep.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41Now, my moon catcher is going to be frozen.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43There we go. So the mug

0:01:43 > 0:01:48is making a hole so that when it's frozen, I can hang it up.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50I don't want to put it too close to the edge,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53otherwise the ice will be too weak and it will just break.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Now, I'm going to freeze these leaves inside my moon catcher.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58So I'm going to start arranging them.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02I'm going to start with the nice dark greens, right at the beginning,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and have them blend into lighter greens.

0:02:04 > 0:02:05It's easier to put the water in first

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and then push the leaves down into it

0:02:07 > 0:02:09because if you put all your leaves down

0:02:09 > 0:02:12and then pour the water in, they kind of just float everywhere

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and it might ruin your design.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17I'm fading through into the yellow leaves now.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19I've picked fallen leaves for my moon catcher,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21because it means I get a nice cross-section

0:02:21 > 0:02:23of different colours and shapes and sizes.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24But you can use whatever you want.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27You can use grass, sticks, even acorns.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30I'm going to start fading it through now into the orange.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33That's a nice one.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37And finally, the red.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40And check the back of some of the leaves because they might have

0:02:40 > 0:02:42more of a vivid colour on the back than they do on the front.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48There you go. I think that already looks beautiful,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51but it will look even better once it's frozen.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53So I'm going to pop it in the freezer.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Hang on. I don't wait for water to freeze.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02I wait for no-one! I'm the art ninja.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03Hiiyaa!

0:03:03 > 0:03:05GONG!

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Check that out. Beautiful.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Now I need to get this cup out,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12and that will loosen with a little bit of warm water.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17There we go.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20And now carefully, need to get it out.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Wow! Look at that!

0:03:27 > 0:03:28That is beautiful.

0:03:30 > 0:03:35I'm going to tie a bit of ribbon around it so I can hang it up.

0:03:35 > 0:03:36Now, the art doesn't stop there.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40Just like Andy Goldsworthy, it involves photography.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48I'm going to hang it up in the moonlight,

0:03:48 > 0:03:50film it melting on my phone,

0:03:50 > 0:03:52and play it in reverse as video art.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYS

0:04:11 > 0:04:13Awesome! That's amazing!

0:04:16 > 0:04:20Maybe I can make my own version of a photogram picture.

0:04:20 > 0:04:21Don't worry, all will become clear.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25Let me just grab some interesting objects.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Right. So I've got myself a watch,

0:04:28 > 0:04:30some headphones,

0:04:30 > 0:04:32a pen, some keys,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34an old phone charger,

0:04:34 > 0:04:37a banana and some cool shades.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41I'm going to get some nice coloured paper

0:04:41 > 0:04:43and I'm going to draw around these items.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Start with yellow.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47And I'm going to start by drawing around the banana,

0:04:47 > 0:04:48seeing as I've got the yellow out.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51Now, a photogram is a form of art made popular by

0:04:51 > 0:04:53American artist Man Ray.

0:04:55 > 0:04:56Did somebody call my name?

0:04:56 > 0:05:00- Hey, Man!- Man Ray, to be precise.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02I beg your pardon, Ray.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05I'm actually appearing as a photogram, one of my favourite forms

0:05:05 > 0:05:09of art. It's a photo made without a camera.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11I put objects onto photographic paper,

0:05:11 > 0:05:13and then expose them to light.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15It makes a negative shadow.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Now, would you mind disappearing into the shadows so I can have a go

0:05:18 > 0:05:19at making my own version?

0:05:19 > 0:05:23It's becoming very transparent that I'm not needed here!

0:05:23 > 0:05:26See you later, Man...Ray.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32So, Man Ray liked to call his photograms Rayographs

0:05:32 > 0:05:35but I'm going to have a go at my very own Rickograph.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37I'm not going to be using photographic paper, though,

0:05:37 > 0:05:39so I'm going full colour.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Cool, banana's done.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43I think I'm going to use this cable next.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Now, remember, you can draw around whatever you like.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49That's cool. Move on to the green.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55The reason I'm using a mechanical pencil is because you can click the

0:05:55 > 0:05:58lead out so that it's a long, thin piece and then use it to get in all

0:05:58 > 0:06:01the nooks and crannies on smaller items like keys.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Once I've drawn all around these objects,

0:06:09 > 0:06:10I'm going to cut them out and make a picture

0:06:10 > 0:06:12that would cheer up even Man Ray.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18I'm going to start by cutting out the banana.

0:06:20 > 0:06:21There you go, nice banana cut-out.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Now, you'll need to cut the rest out.

0:06:23 > 0:06:24But not me, because I'm a ninja.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Hiiyaa!

0:06:26 > 0:06:27There we are, good stuff.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30Let me grab myself a piece of black card,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33because it will give the colours great contrast

0:06:33 > 0:06:34and they'll really pop out.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36And now I'm going to arrange them into a

0:06:36 > 0:06:38composition that I'm happy with.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43I want this pen pointing back into the centre.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Now I'm going to stick them down.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYS

0:06:54 > 0:06:56This is looking good, but to finish it off,

0:06:56 > 0:06:58I'm going to give it a nice frame.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02Awesome! My very own Rickograph!

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Remember, when you do your photogram,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15you can use any colour and draw around any objects you like!

0:07:25 > 0:07:29Here's a quick art tip of how to add a shadow to your drawing.

0:07:29 > 0:07:30So I've got a drawing here,

0:07:30 > 0:07:32with a little wolf man wandering the streets.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35And the first thing you need to do is decide where the light's

0:07:35 > 0:07:38coming from. So I think mine will come from the lower right here

0:07:38 > 0:07:41so I can project the shadow onto the wall behind him.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45So, I can start doing a rough outline of the character again,

0:07:45 > 0:07:46just back here.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49And I'm going to exaggerate his features a bit,

0:07:49 > 0:07:51making them longer and thinner.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56It's also good if the shadow overlaps a little bit with your

0:07:56 > 0:07:57character, going behind it.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02And the shadow does tend to get bigger

0:08:02 > 0:08:04when it's projected away from your character.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07Now, I'm going to connect my shadow to my character.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12And now I can start filling it in.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15Just with a rough scribble.

0:08:20 > 0:08:24And the last little finishing touch is a little bit of shading on the

0:08:24 > 0:08:28back of the character, away from where the light's coming from.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31There you go! A quick art tip.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41- GROWL! GROWL! - Arrgh!

0:08:41 > 0:08:44- SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK! - He-he-he!

0:08:47 > 0:08:50Now go to the website and get your ninja on!

0:08:53 > 0:08:55Art ninja!
