0:00:05 > 0:00:07Time to get my ninja on...

0:00:07 > 0:00:08and my clothes.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Hee-ya!

0:00:14 > 0:00:15DING!

0:00:15 > 0:00:17WHOOSH

0:00:17 > 0:00:19WHOOSH

0:00:19 > 0:00:21ICE CREAM TRUCK JINGLE PLAYS

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Right, time for some art.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29All I need is some paint.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Like that pot of paint, precariously balanced up there,

0:00:32 > 0:00:34above Mum's antique Persian rug.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40What's the worst that could happen?

0:00:43 > 0:00:45- SPLAT! - Oh, no!

0:00:45 > 0:00:48I've got paint on Mum's antique Persian rug!

0:00:48 > 0:00:50She's going to go ballistic.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53I'm never going to get this out!

0:00:53 > 0:00:56What am I going to do?

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Time flies and so can you with some zippy animation.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Hey, guys, watch this!

0:01:01 > 0:01:03BOING!

0:01:03 > 0:01:05WOO-WOO-WOO

0:01:05 > 0:01:06BANG!

0:01:06 > 0:01:07Dude!

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Wow! Is this a new trick of Rich's?

0:01:09 > 0:01:12No, it's just an animation.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13A floaty one.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16No idea how that happened.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Well, usually, in animation, if we want to hold a character in the air,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22we'd use some wire that we call rigging.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Then, we'd take a clean plate of the animation set, without the model in,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27and we'd paint them out afterwards.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29SQUEAKING

0:01:29 > 0:01:32But, in this case, we're going to do a little trick.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36So, to make this cool friend, floaty animation, you'll need...

0:01:36 > 0:01:37a friend...

0:01:37 > 0:01:39BOING!

0:01:39 > 0:01:40..or some friends.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42CLICK

0:01:42 > 0:01:43CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

0:01:43 > 0:01:45BOING!

0:01:45 > 0:01:46BANG! BANG! BANG!

0:01:46 > 0:01:49- Whoa! - THEY LAUGH

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Yeah, and a tablet device with some kind of animation app.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53WHOOSH

0:01:53 > 0:01:56And you can put it together in just three ninja moves.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Ninja move number one.

0:01:58 > 0:01:59The first thing I need to do

0:01:59 > 0:02:03is practise getting good at taking a picture at just the right time,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06and that's when Rich is at his highest point in his jump.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11Hmm, that was a little bit too late. Try again.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Hey, that's better.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14About...

0:02:14 > 0:02:16there.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17That's the good bit, there.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20And, also, I'm going to want him to try and keep his hands in the

0:02:20 > 0:02:22same place, otherwise he kind of goes like this...

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Let's try a couple more, Rich. Go.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Ah, that's perfect.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Ninja move number two.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Time for me to start shooting my animation.

0:02:29 > 0:02:30Rich, I think you've got it easy, mate.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Last year, I was, like, facedown on the floor

0:02:33 > 0:02:35with him on my back.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Ninja move number three.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39We're going to have him fly all over the skate park.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42We're going to do some flybys, try some close-ups, some wides...

0:02:42 > 0:02:43BOING! BOING! BOING!

0:02:43 > 0:02:45..maybe a few following camera angles.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48And, the whole time, we're going to try and have some fun.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58BOING! BOING! BOING! BOING!

0:02:58 > 0:03:00We've shot all our frames of the animation.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02So, Rich, you ready to see it?

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Well, I think it's time to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10BOING! WHOOSH!

0:03:10 > 0:03:11BOING! WHOOSH!

0:03:11 > 0:03:13WOO-WOO-WOO

0:03:13 > 0:03:16BOING! BOING! BOING!

0:03:16 > 0:03:17BOING!

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Hey, you, there!

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Ever wanted a bit more spring in your step?

0:03:26 > 0:03:30How about more wing on your shoe?

0:03:30 > 0:03:33For once, this product might actually take off.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Here's how you make it.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39Grab some craft foam and a pencil

0:03:39 > 0:03:41and draw yourself a lightning bolt.

0:03:45 > 0:03:46Cut that out.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52And use that lightning bolt...

0:03:52 > 0:03:55- RUMBLING AND CRASHING - ..as a template to make another!

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Now grab yourself some different coloured card.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00With glue,

0:04:00 > 0:04:02glue your lightning bolts to it.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06Now cut those out and leave a border.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Sparkly.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15Now grab some more coloured craft foam

0:04:15 > 0:04:17and stick the lightning bolts on top.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Cut them out again, with another border.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Now you'll need a shoe.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Ah!

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Use the eyelets to mark where the holes will be.

0:04:32 > 0:04:38Grab some modelling clay and use the pencil to poke some holes.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Now lace them onto your shoes.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47Great. Now you can do that with your other shoe

0:04:47 > 0:04:50or try some different designs, like some...

0:04:50 > 0:04:53- WHEE! - ..nice butterfly ones,

0:04:53 > 0:04:55- or some bat wings... - WHEE!

0:04:55 > 0:04:58- ..or some dragon wings... - WHEE!

0:04:58 > 0:05:01- ..or some flames. - WHEE!

0:05:01 > 0:05:02That is some incredible "feet"!

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Spot of leftovers.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10Hang on a minute.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13I've had an idea that will catapult this mealtime to fun time.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Let me just quickly consult the old art reference book.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18WHOOSH!

0:05:18 > 0:05:19HE COUGHS

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Hello, Ricky. I am Leonardo.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26No way!

0:05:26 > 0:05:28I love all of your movies!

0:05:28 > 0:05:31No, that's Leonardo DiCaprio.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33I am Leonardo da Vinci.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35- No relation.- Oh.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37I painted the Mona Lisa.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42I also did the Vitruvian Man, who I look a bit like now.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44I like to doodle invention.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47I was also fond of making catapults.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49Here's some of my work now.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55Thanks, Leonardo. I'll let you get back to your book.

0:05:55 > 0:05:56Oh!

0:05:56 > 0:05:59I'm going to make a fun catapult game,

0:05:59 > 0:06:01using some lolly sticks and elastic bands.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04And I'm going to fling fake food into my big, bitey mouth, up there,

0:06:04 > 0:06:06that I've made from an old cardboard box.

0:06:06 > 0:06:11It has a hole cut out for a mouth and I've stuck on googly card eyes.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14I'm going to start by taking eight large lolly sticks

0:06:14 > 0:06:17and binding them together with some elastic bands.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25And just go round it as may times as you can, so it's nice and tight.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29And do that the same the other side.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36There we are.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39Now I'm going to grab another thick lolly stick and a spoon

0:06:39 > 0:06:43and I'm going to bind them together as well with another elastic band

0:06:43 > 0:06:45to create my, kind of, catapult flingy arm.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Just grabbing another large lolly stick

0:06:56 > 0:06:58and I'm going to put it the opposite side of my large block

0:06:58 > 0:07:03I've already made, and my spoon flinging arm above that.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Now I'm going to bind these together with elastic bands again,

0:07:05 > 0:07:09but I'm going to go around it diagonally.

0:07:09 > 0:07:10Once in one direction.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12I don't want to do this bit as tightly

0:07:12 > 0:07:15as I've done the main block, too many times.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17If I do, it won't have enough movement or spring.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24And, finally, to get that spring in, with one last elastic band,

0:07:24 > 0:07:26I'm going to pinch these two ends together.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33There you go. My catapult is done!

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Now I need to make some fake food to shoot from it.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39So, now I've got a piece of card

0:07:39 > 0:07:42and I'm going to draw my fake food onto it.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44So, take a nice black pen...

0:07:44 > 0:07:46I'm going to draw a mushroom and an onion.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57Now I'm going to cut those out.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07Now I've got myself some bottle tops

0:08:07 > 0:08:09and I'm going to stick my fake food to the top of it

0:08:09 > 0:08:11with some double-sided sticky tape.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20So, there's my fake food onion and a mushroom projectile.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23But I'm going to need more food than this to feed my face,

0:08:23 > 0:08:26so let's make some more, ninja style!

0:08:26 > 0:08:28- Hee-ya! - DING!

0:08:28 > 0:08:29Oh, yeah!

0:08:29 > 0:08:32Got some salami, nice bit of red onion, my mushroom,

0:08:32 > 0:08:35tasty olives and my favourite - some pineapple.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37Now it's time to play my catapult game.

0:08:39 > 0:08:40Here's a free lesson.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42WHOOSH!

0:08:45 > 0:08:49It's a great game to play with friends.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51Now go to the website and get your ninja on!

0:08:55 > 0:08:56Art ninja!
