0:00:05 > 0:00:07It's a new day.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08Better get my ninja on!

0:00:10 > 0:00:11And my clothes!

0:00:21 > 0:00:22QUACKING

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Aww.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Ooh! CRASH!

0:00:28 > 0:00:31One day, I'm going to write a book about my ninja adventures,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33but first, I'm going to make...

0:00:34 > 0:00:36..the Art Ninja Secret Book!

0:00:38 > 0:00:40So, I've got an old food packaging box here,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and I'm going to cut off the front.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50I'm putting tape around here, just to neaten up the edges.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Now, I need this box to look like pages, and I'm going to

0:00:52 > 0:00:56create that illusion by using some string and double-sided sticky tape.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01I'm just going to peel off those bits.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07VOICEOVER: And now its time for the string.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Carefully wrap the string around, on top of the double-sided sticky tape.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14I'm going to start off at the bottom, and start rolling it round.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18I need to be neat with this, cos I want it to look like pages.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21The last one. Snip it off!

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Now I need to make the cover.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24So, for that, I've got a piece of card.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26I need to mark where my spine's going to be.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29So, let's have a look. Like that..

0:01:31 > 0:01:32..and the other side.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37And then, to get a nice fold, I'm going to put the ruler down,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38and bend the card over the ruler.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42VOICEOVER: And the same for the other side.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45To make the edges look neater, I'm going to cover them in masking tape.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Do the same for the spine.

0:01:50 > 0:01:51Sweet!

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Nice and tidy.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56So, to draw my design, I've got a couple of bits of card.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00VOICEOVER: I'm doing a scary skull and facial features, separately.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01You'll see why later.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05I'm just cutting out these pieces with scissors.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11And I'm cutting indentations, so this bit looks like teeth.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15I'm going to draw around my skull to make a slightly bigger one,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18just about half a centimetre border, all the way around.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20When these two are layered up,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22it'll really make it pop out from the book.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Let's get that cut out, as well.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Stick the smaller skull onto the big one,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30just using a normal glue stick here.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Now I'm going to put on the teeth

0:02:33 > 0:02:34and the nose,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and then the eyes.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39That's the skull for the front, but I want a smaller one for the spine,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41so I'll just ninja another one.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42WHIPPING

0:02:42 > 0:02:44And some bones.

0:02:44 > 0:02:45Ninja skills!

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Stick these to the cover of the book with the glue stick.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49The spine.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52And the crossbones.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53Now it's ready for painting.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56So, we've got two lovely blues over here.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58A light one, and a richer, dark one.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01I'm going to start with the light blue,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03just give it an all-over base colour.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06If you're doing this at home,

0:03:06 > 0:03:10you'll need to put some newspaper down to protect your table.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Right, I need that to dry so I can do the detail,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14and I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17There we go!

0:03:17 > 0:03:20I've painted the inside a darker blue to give it a bit of contrast.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23Now I'm going to add some detail with a smaller brush,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25so just a tiny bit of paint on the brush, and then with what's

0:03:25 > 0:03:29left, I'm just going to pick out all the embossed edges.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Going to take my time on some bits here to blend it in,

0:03:31 > 0:03:33using a dry-brush technique.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38I'm also painting the edges of my cover dark blue,

0:03:38 > 0:03:40and that's to make the book look old and worn.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42There we go.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Now I'm going to stick my pages on the inside,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46with a bit of double-sided sticky tape.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Two bits on the back should do it.

0:03:48 > 0:03:49And one on one side of the string,

0:03:49 > 0:03:52cos that's going to be where the spine sticks in.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57And one final finishing touch.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59Some lovely golden corner protectors,

0:03:59 > 0:04:02that I'm going to hold on with double-sided sticky tape.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04There you go, check it out!

0:04:04 > 0:04:06Need to hide my chocolate on the inside.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08Gav will never find it in there!

0:04:08 > 0:04:11But it is hard to keep this book a secret,

0:04:11 > 0:04:12because it's such a thriller!

0:04:22 > 0:04:26I found out I had plenty of ancestors for my autobiography.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31According to this family tree website,

0:04:31 > 0:04:33I come from a long line of ninjas.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36I wonder which one's my great-great-grandfather?

0:04:36 > 0:04:38There's a chef that cooked really quickly.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42Cake ninja.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Maybe it's him!

0:04:44 > 0:04:46IN FRENCH ACCENT: Cake is served!

0:04:46 > 0:04:48SQUELCH CRASH

0:04:49 > 0:04:51VOICEOVER: Not cool.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57An artist that uses autobiographical details in their work is

0:04:57 > 0:04:58Grayson Perry.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02He was known for making vases, so I'm going to make one of my own.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05- All right, Ricky?- Oh, hi, Grayson. Nice of you to turn up.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08Did you say "Turner"? Yeah, I did

0:05:08 > 0:05:11win that Turner Prize in 2003.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13And you're looking smart.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15I know, I put my best dress on specially.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17I do have a CBE award, you know,

0:05:17 > 0:05:19for services to contemporary art.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21Here's some of my work now.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Wow! You'll be a "sir" next!

0:05:25 > 0:05:27Or should I say, "sir-ramic"?

0:05:28 > 0:05:29Er, stop with the jokes,

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Ricky, I'm...glazing over.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35All right. I'll pop you back over here.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39So I've got myself just a normal party balloon,

0:05:39 > 0:05:42and I'm going to blow it up, about the size of a melon.

0:05:45 > 0:05:46There we go. Tie that off.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51I've got myself a snack tube.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53Take the lid off, and with a pen,

0:05:53 > 0:05:54and quite carefully, I'm going

0:05:54 > 0:05:56to draw a circle around the bottom

0:05:56 > 0:05:58of the balloon, over the knot.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02And at the top, too.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06And these two circles need to be perfectly in line with each other.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08I've got some newspaper and some glue mix here.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Three parts glue, one part water. And I'm going to papier-mache

0:06:11 > 0:06:12around my balloon,

0:06:12 > 0:06:14leaving the two circles on

0:06:14 > 0:06:16the top and the bottom empty.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20If you find it tricky,

0:06:20 > 0:06:22put a little bowl down to hold your balloon in place.

0:06:25 > 0:06:26If you're doing this at home,

0:06:26 > 0:06:29you need to put newspaper down to protect your surfaces,

0:06:29 > 0:06:31and you'll need to do several layers

0:06:31 > 0:06:33to make sure it's nice and strong.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38I'm making sure that my papier-mache goes right up to my drawn circles,

0:06:38 > 0:06:39up to the very edge.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46Looking good!

0:06:46 > 0:06:47Now, I need that to dry.

0:06:47 > 0:06:48WHOOSH!

0:06:48 > 0:06:51There we go. Ninja skills.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Chop the end of the balloon off...

0:06:53 > 0:06:54PFFFT!

0:06:54 > 0:06:55Ha-ha, great noise.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Slide in my snack tube,

0:06:58 > 0:06:59so it sticks out either end.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01I'm going to hold it in place with some masking tape.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13I'm using my same glue mix from earlier.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16I'm going to cover it in a layer of coloured paper.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20And paper gives it a lovely texture.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26While it's still wet, I'm going

0:07:26 > 0:07:28to add my autobiographical features.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32Pictures of my friends and my life, just like Grayson Perry.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35Some long strips of coloured paper to wrap round the top.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38Just going to slide them underneath that silver bit.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41I could wait for this to dry before I add some finer details,

0:07:41 > 0:07:44but I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46There you go. Ninja skills.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49And I've added some black pen detail.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51An autobiographical vase,

0:07:51 > 0:07:53in the style of Grayson Perry.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08Maybe, rather than a book, I should do a vlog! It's more lucrative.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15Mmm! Delicious!

0:08:15 > 0:08:17What are you doing now?

0:08:17 > 0:08:21Here, try this refreshing kumquat and quinoa-ade drink for the vlog!

0:08:24 > 0:08:26Mmm... Mmm!

0:08:26 > 0:08:28HE RETCHES SPLASHING

0:08:28 > 0:08:29BUBBLING

0:08:29 > 0:08:32That's disgusting! Why are you drinking that?

0:08:32 > 0:08:35Drinks people sponsor the vlog!

0:08:35 > 0:08:36Well, can I sponsor you...

0:08:36 > 0:08:37to leave me alone, please?

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Now, go to the website, and get YOUR ninja on.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Art ninja!
