0:00:00 > 0:00:03# Officially, officially, officially...
0:00:03 > 0:00:06# Amazing! #
0:00:06 > 0:00:08Officially... Japanese.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18On Officially Amazing we've seen some odd records from Japan.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21We've seen a man run like a monkey, a man catching tennis balls
0:00:21 > 0:00:25with a boxing glove and we've seen a man skip in a sewer.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27Eugh.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30But today we're leaving the world of weird records behind
0:00:30 > 0:00:33and doing something a bit more traditional.
0:00:34 > 0:00:38You may think that paper folding is only about aeroplanes,
0:00:38 > 0:00:42but here in Japan you can pretty much make anything.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45Wow, Haruka, these are amazing.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48There's a flower and a cat
0:00:48 > 0:00:52and no idea what that one is, a house?
0:00:52 > 0:00:55Oi, I made that. It's a fish obviously.
0:00:55 > 0:00:59Yes, today we've come to the National Origami Museum in Nagoya
0:00:59 > 0:01:02for an officially amazing record attempt
0:01:02 > 0:01:06and I want to find out more from origami grandmaster Mr Kobayashi.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09He's been doing origami for 41 years
0:01:09 > 0:01:12and he reckons it's not only an artform, but it's good for you too.
0:01:12 > 0:01:18TRANSLATION: Doing origami keeps your brain fit.
0:01:18 > 0:01:23My dad's 91 and still as sharp as a tack.
0:01:23 > 0:01:27And he puts it all down to the benefits of origami,
0:01:27 > 0:01:28so we should all do it, you know.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31If that's not a great advert to take up origami,
0:01:31 > 0:01:34then I don't know what is.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37But it's not Mr Kobayashi who's taking on the record today.
0:01:37 > 0:01:42Instead it's a younger paper player, Yoneyama Yuichi.
0:01:42 > 0:01:47Yuichi holds the record for making an incredible 13 origami cranes,
0:01:47 > 0:01:51a type of bird, in just five minutes - amazing!
0:01:51 > 0:01:53He has a condition called autism
0:01:53 > 0:01:56and making these paper cranes is one of his favourite things to do.
0:01:56 > 0:02:00Can he break his own Guinness world record today?
0:02:02 > 0:02:05For this attempt each crane must be made from a square of paper
0:02:05 > 0:02:08measuring 15 x 15 cm.
0:02:08 > 0:02:11The clock begins the moment he starts folding
0:02:11 > 0:02:14and he has five minutes to make as many cranes as he can.
0:02:14 > 0:02:19Can he break his own Guinness world record today?
0:02:19 > 0:02:23Remember, the clock won't start until he makes the first fold.
0:02:24 > 0:02:29He's making it look simple, but the crane takes 16 precise folds
0:02:29 > 0:02:32and this is an extremely intricate and tricky thing to do.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34His fingers have to work fast,
0:02:34 > 0:02:39but Yuichi has to be incredibly precise with every single fold.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41And the first one is done in no time at all,
0:02:41 > 0:02:45but he's going to need to press on if he's to beat his own record
0:02:45 > 0:02:47of 13 cranes in five minutes,
0:02:47 > 0:02:50that's a whole crane around every 16 seconds.
0:02:50 > 0:02:55This takes extreme concentration, skill and accuracy
0:02:55 > 0:02:59and he's demonstrating all of these without even breaking a sweat.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02He's folding flipping fast,
0:03:02 > 0:03:05but has he been fast enough to break the record?
0:03:05 > 0:03:09And that's it. Time is up.
0:03:09 > 0:03:14Nimble fingers, frantic folding, super skills, has he done enough?
0:03:14 > 0:03:18Well, he did make 13 cranes in total, but the official adjudicator
0:03:18 > 0:03:22has disqualified three for not being identical enough.
0:03:22 > 0:03:25Still a great attempt. Well done, Yuichi.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28So he hasn't quite broken his own record,
0:03:28 > 0:03:32but he is still officially amazing and great.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34Bye-bye from Japan.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37Now, from a peaceful record attempt to some of the noisiest.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43Loudest!
0:03:43 > 0:03:44# Proud to be loud
0:03:44 > 0:03:46# Turn up the decibels
0:03:46 > 0:03:47# Proud to be loud
0:03:47 > 0:03:49# Plug up your ears
0:03:49 > 0:03:50# Proud to be loud
0:03:50 > 0:03:51# The words of this record
0:03:51 > 0:03:53# Proud to be loud
0:03:53 > 0:03:55# They might bring you to tears
0:03:55 > 0:03:58# Domestic pets are wonderful
0:03:58 > 0:04:00# Cute creatures covered in fur
0:04:00 > 0:04:03# But how about the loudest bark
0:04:03 > 0:04:06# And the loudest pussycat purr?
0:04:06 > 0:04:10# Smokey the kitty made a noise so pretty
0:04:10 > 0:04:12# When stroked or presented with ham
0:04:12 > 0:04:15# And Charlie the mutt had a bark that was louder than
0:04:15 > 0:04:19# The pneumatic driller man!
0:04:19 > 0:04:21# Miguel Molano cracks his knuckles
0:04:21 > 0:04:24# It's not a good thing to do
0:04:24 > 0:04:27# But here's a fact that might make you chuckle
0:04:27 > 0:04:30# The noise is louder than flushing the loo
0:04:30 > 0:04:33# Cora Balko snores so loud
0:04:33 > 0:04:36# When he's sleeping through the night
0:04:36 > 0:04:39# 93 decibels
0:04:39 > 0:04:42# That's louder than a motor bike!
0:04:42 > 0:04:45# Born to be loud
0:04:45 > 0:04:46# Turn up the decibels
0:04:46 > 0:04:47# Proud to be loud
0:04:47 > 0:04:49# Plug up your ears
0:04:49 > 0:04:50# Proud to be loud
0:04:50 > 0:04:52# The words of this record
0:04:52 > 0:04:53# Proud to be loud
0:04:53 > 0:04:55# They might bring you to tears
0:04:55 > 0:04:57# Now the howl of monkeys
0:04:57 > 0:05:00# Have a whole lot of things to say
0:05:00 > 0:05:03# The loudest land animals
0:05:03 > 0:05:06# That can be heard from three miles away
0:05:06 > 0:05:09# But there's one lovely lady
0:05:09 > 0:05:12# With the loudest scream in the world
0:05:12 > 0:05:15# Jill Drake, she's louder than thunder
0:05:15 > 0:05:19# She's my kind of girl!
0:05:19 > 0:05:20# Proud to be loud
0:05:20 > 0:05:22# Turn up the decibels
0:05:22 > 0:05:23# Proud to be loud
0:05:23 > 0:05:25# Plug up your ears
0:05:25 > 0:05:26# Proud to be loud
0:05:26 > 0:05:28# The words of these records
0:05:28 > 0:05:32# They might bring you to tears. #
0:05:32 > 0:05:36Officially competitive.
0:05:37 > 0:05:39Yeah! Woo!
0:05:42 > 0:05:47On Officially Amazing we've scoured the globe to find three
0:05:47 > 0:05:51giants of international record-breaking proportion.
0:05:51 > 0:05:54They're facing off against each other in a fierce battle with world
0:05:54 > 0:05:58records and national pride on the line as they take on challenges
0:05:58 > 0:06:01that you can try at home.
0:06:01 > 0:06:04Representing the UK is Sizzling Steve,
0:06:04 > 0:06:10a steadfast stick of record-breaking British rock.
0:06:10 > 0:06:13And for Japan it's the man who puts the...
0:06:13 > 0:06:14Into...
0:06:14 > 0:06:16It's Mr Cherry.
0:06:18 > 0:06:22And finally he flips, he springs, he wears funny things.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26Representing the United States it's US Ray!
0:06:27 > 0:06:32As things stand Japan's Mr Cherry is in the lead with three victories.
0:06:32 > 0:06:37Sizzling Steve is on two with US Ray lagging behind on one.
0:06:38 > 0:06:42And impressively they've already chalked up an astonishing five
0:06:42 > 0:06:44new Guinness world records between them.
0:06:44 > 0:06:49Today's titanic tussle requires a steady hand, a keen eye
0:06:49 > 0:06:53and a pack of cards as they build a house of cards over three levels
0:06:53 > 0:06:55in the fastest time possible.
0:06:57 > 0:07:01I braved the hordes of adoring fans to bring you an exclusive
0:07:01 > 0:07:04interview from Steve's Theatre of Dreams.
0:07:04 > 0:07:08The notoriously easy to fall over house of cards.
0:07:08 > 0:07:11- Are you worried about that? - Not really.- No, why is that?
0:07:11 > 0:07:14Because it's going to fall down at some point.
0:07:14 > 0:07:17Right, that's quite a philosophical way of looking at things.
0:07:17 > 0:07:21Hopefully not during the record attempt, though, that's the key.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23Hopefully not.
0:07:23 > 0:07:26And with that battle cry it's time for the rules.
0:07:26 > 0:07:29For this record attempt standard playing cards must be used
0:07:29 > 0:07:32and they can't be bent or creased in any way.
0:07:32 > 0:07:34The house must be built in a pyramid shape
0:07:34 > 0:07:37and needs to stay up for at least 30 seconds.
0:07:37 > 0:07:39Stack.
0:07:39 > 0:07:42The world record time Steve is aiming to beat is 6.8 seconds,
0:07:42 > 0:07:46which is just about...now.
0:07:46 > 0:07:50So, it's no record, but there's still a competition to be won here.
0:07:50 > 0:07:53Can he stack all three levels quicker than Ray and Cherry?
0:07:53 > 0:07:56It's nice, we've got foundations, we've got a second level coming on.
0:07:56 > 0:07:59Not even my best chat can distract the Sizzler.
0:07:59 > 0:08:03Is there room for an extension if I want a conservatory?
0:08:03 > 0:08:04No.
0:08:04 > 0:08:06Oh, OK, then, thank you.
0:08:08 > 0:08:11Stop. And he's done, but will it hold?
0:08:11 > 0:08:13It is holding,
0:08:13 > 0:08:17but at 30.18 seconds Steve is nowhere near the record
0:08:17 > 0:08:20held by Silvio Sabba of Italy who could build
0:08:20 > 0:08:23five of these in the time it's taken Steve to make just one.
0:08:23 > 0:08:27However, this is a tricky challenge. It's now about beating his rivals.
0:08:27 > 0:08:29- Ray, are you ready to do it? - I'm ready.
0:08:29 > 0:08:32- Are you ready?- All right.
0:08:32 > 0:08:36Three, two, one, go.
0:08:36 > 0:08:39Remember the record is 6.8 seconds,
0:08:39 > 0:08:42which is now.
0:08:42 > 0:08:44So nowhere near the record either
0:08:44 > 0:08:48but they can still beat Sizzling Steve's time
0:08:49 > 0:08:5020 seconds.
0:08:52 > 0:08:54Or maybe not.
0:08:54 > 0:08:58Things aren't going Ray's way but he's not a man to give up easily.
0:08:58 > 0:09:01Cherry seems to be doing a bit better.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03Actually, no he's not.
0:09:03 > 0:09:05That is a pyramid, Ray,
0:09:05 > 0:09:09but I'm not sure you'll be able to get three levels from it.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13"Cardlamity".
0:09:13 > 0:09:16Cherry is getting there.
0:09:16 > 0:09:19Oh, no, so close,
0:09:19 > 0:09:21but is it going to collapse?
0:09:21 > 0:09:22No!
0:09:22 > 0:09:24HE SPEAKS JAPANESE
0:09:24 > 0:09:26Oh, no Japanese spirit.
0:09:26 > 0:09:30It collapsed like a, well, like a house of cards.
0:09:30 > 0:09:33We could pretend to build up the tension for these results,
0:09:33 > 0:09:36but seeing as Steve was the only one to actually
0:09:36 > 0:09:39build his house of cards, that would be a bit pointless.
0:09:39 > 0:09:42US Ray huffed and puffed, but his house fell down.
0:09:42 > 0:09:44And it seems Mr Cherry had
0:09:44 > 0:09:46a few too many jokers in his pack.
0:09:46 > 0:09:50Well, Sizzler wins and doesn't he look delighted?
0:09:50 > 0:09:53No new world record today, but he takes another win for the UK.
0:09:53 > 0:09:57That brings him level with Mr Cherry on three victories each
0:09:57 > 0:10:00and US Ray has got some catching up to do.
0:10:00 > 0:10:03The boys will be back to fight another day.
