0:00:54 > 0:00:59# Looking back when I was a boy

0:01:05 > 0:01:08# Those lovely Rockpool Tales. #
0:01:09 > 0:01:12TOOT!
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Oh, hello! Look at Salty.
0:01:15 > 0:01:19You are looking a bit untidy, Salty.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23You need a haircut. You're starting to look like a hairy monster.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Ha-ha-ha! Yes!
0:01:26 > 0:01:29I'll tell you a story about a time
0:01:29 > 0:01:33when my friend Ernie looked like a hairy monster.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36Yeah. It all happened when I was a boy.
0:01:36 > 0:01:40In a twinkly time, long, long ago.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Ha-ha!
0:01:42 > 0:01:47I used to run down to the beach as often as I could.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51Meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03One day, Little Ernie had a stick
0:02:03 > 0:02:06and he was drawing something in the sand.
0:02:06 > 0:02:10- Who is it?- It's me.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12You need some curly hair.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15Then Sailor Sue had a good idea.
0:02:15 > 0:02:20She scooped up some clumps of seaweed and she arranged them
0:02:20 > 0:02:23around the smiley face in the sand.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25"Now you've got hair, Ernie."
0:02:25 > 0:02:27And we all laughed,
0:02:27 > 0:02:32because the drawing of Ernie looked a bit like a sea monster.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34Ha-ha-ha!
0:02:34 > 0:02:38And then Ernie picked up some seaweed and chased us.
0:02:38 > 0:02:39"I'm a sea monster!"
0:02:39 > 0:02:43And he gave a sea monster roar. "Rar-rar-rar-rar-rar-rar!"
0:02:43 > 0:02:45Ha-ha-ha-ha!
0:02:45 > 0:02:48Oh, yeah, that woke you up, didn't it? Yeah.
0:02:48 > 0:02:50With a hoot and a holler,
0:02:50 > 0:02:56we dashed off to the rock pools with Ernie chasing us and laughing.
0:02:56 > 0:03:02And when we got there, we settled down beside a pool.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters,
0:03:05 > 0:03:09a magical world appeared before our eyes.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18Sally the Starfish and Andrew the Anemone woke up
0:03:18 > 0:03:20to find lots of pebbles and sticks
0:03:20 > 0:03:24scattered all over the sandy bed of the rockpool.
0:03:24 > 0:03:28And seaweed, lots and lots of seaweed, washed in by the tide.
0:03:28 > 0:03:32Bertrum popped his head out of his home and looked around.
0:03:32 > 0:03:35"Been a storm last night," he sniffed.
0:03:35 > 0:03:39At that moment, a piece of seaweed landed on him.
0:03:39 > 0:03:43"Bertrum's got a moustache," laughed Sally.
0:03:43 > 0:03:45"That is not funny," said Bertrum,
0:03:45 > 0:03:48as he slipped on a piece of slippery seaweed.
0:03:48 > 0:03:52And, whoosh! He landed in the sand.
0:03:52 > 0:03:55Andrew and Sally checked to see if he was all right.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58"I'm fine," replied Bertrum.
0:03:58 > 0:04:01"We need to clear up this slippery seaweed
0:04:01 > 0:04:04"before there are any more accidents."
0:04:04 > 0:04:07Well, Sally and Andrew looked at each other and decided
0:04:07 > 0:04:12that it was best to go and see Reginald the Great Wise Limpet.
0:04:12 > 0:04:15He would know what to do with all this seaweed.
0:04:15 > 0:04:17So off they went.
0:04:17 > 0:04:22Just then, Bertrum heard a familiar clicky sound.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24Clickety-clickety-click!
0:04:26 > 0:04:30Can you remember which rockpooler makes a clicky sound?
0:04:30 > 0:04:32Can you remember, Salty?
0:04:32 > 0:04:37Yeah, that's right, yes. Buster the Crab.
0:04:37 > 0:04:41Well, Buster looked around at all the pebbles
0:04:41 > 0:04:43and the sticks and the seaweed.
0:04:43 > 0:04:47"Can I be of any help?" he asked.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50"Yes," said Bertrum. "Could you pick up some pebbles?"
0:04:50 > 0:04:52"Gotcha," said Buster.
0:04:52 > 0:04:57And he clicked and clacked away to pick up the pebbles.
0:04:57 > 0:05:01But every time he tried to pick up a pebble in his big claws...
0:05:01 > 0:05:03Bing!
0:05:03 > 0:05:07..the pebble whizzed out and landed in the sand.
0:05:07 > 0:05:11So he clicked and clacked back over to Bertrum.
0:05:11 > 0:05:15"Is there anything else I could do?" he asked.
0:05:15 > 0:05:18Bertrum thought for a moment.
0:05:18 > 0:05:22"How about gathering up sticks?"
0:05:22 > 0:05:24So Buster had a go.
0:05:24 > 0:05:27He clicked and clacked over to a pile of sticks
0:05:27 > 0:05:30and tried to pick them up in his claws.
0:05:30 > 0:05:35But, with a snap-snap-snap, they kept breaking in two.
0:05:35 > 0:05:39By the time he'd finished, oh, dear,
0:05:39 > 0:05:42there were more sticks than when he'd started.
0:05:42 > 0:05:43Buster sighed.
0:05:43 > 0:05:47"With these snippy claws of mine, I'm not much help, am I?"
0:05:47 > 0:05:52"Mmmmm," said Bertrum, who bustled away to tidy up.
0:05:52 > 0:05:56Meanwhile, Andrew and Sally had travelled through
0:05:56 > 0:05:59the long, floaty fingers of seaweed
0:05:59 > 0:06:02to find Reginald the Great Wise Limpet.
0:06:04 > 0:06:08But he was looking very, very different from usual.
0:06:08 > 0:06:14"Huh-blee-blop-blup-blee-blobble," said Reginald.
0:06:16 > 0:06:18Yeah, I know, I know, Salty,
0:06:18 > 0:06:22it doesn't sound like the normal Reginald, does it? No, it doesn't.
0:06:22 > 0:06:24Well, there's a reason for that.
0:06:24 > 0:06:30The storm had completely covered Reginald in seaweed.
0:06:30 > 0:06:32CHILDREN GIGGLE
0:06:32 > 0:06:37He looked like a hairy, green sea monster who really needed a haircut.
0:06:37 > 0:06:41"Reginald, are you all right?" said Andrew.
0:06:41 > 0:06:45"Huh-blee-blop-blup-blee-blobble," said Reginald.
0:06:45 > 0:06:51It was very hard to hear him under all that seaweed.
0:06:51 > 0:06:57Andrew and Sally took this to mean, "Please get this seaweed off me."
0:06:57 > 0:07:00So they splashed over to Reginald
0:07:00 > 0:07:02and they each took an end of seaweed.
0:07:02 > 0:07:04"Hold tight," said Andrew.
0:07:04 > 0:07:07They gave an enormous tug.
0:07:07 > 0:07:10"Huh-blee-blop-blup-blee-blop!"
0:07:10 > 0:07:11They both fell backwards.
0:07:11 > 0:07:15"It's a really slippery problem," said Sally.
0:07:15 > 0:07:16So they tried again.
0:07:16 > 0:07:19But with a mighty, Jup!
0:07:19 > 0:07:23they flipped up in the air and flopped into the rockpool.
0:07:23 > 0:07:25Splosh!
0:07:25 > 0:07:28They sank all the way to the sandy seabed
0:07:28 > 0:07:31and landed right next to Buster.
0:07:31 > 0:07:33"Hello," said Andrew.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36"It's looking a bit better down here now.
0:07:36 > 0:07:39"Did you help Bertrum tidy up?"
0:07:39 > 0:07:42"I couldn't. These great, big claws
0:07:42 > 0:07:46"are no good for anything apart from snipping.
0:07:46 > 0:07:48"They're good at snipping.
0:07:48 > 0:07:52"Does anyone need a snippety-snipper in the rockpool?"
0:07:52 > 0:07:58That was when Sally had a good idea. A really good idea.
0:07:58 > 0:08:03"I know somebody who needs a haircut," she said.
0:08:03 > 0:08:09So Andrew and Sally took Buster to the surface of the rockpool.
0:08:09 > 0:08:14"Huh-blee-blop-blup-blee-blop," said Reginald.
0:08:14 > 0:08:16Buster smiled.
0:08:16 > 0:08:19"No problem at all," he said.
0:08:19 > 0:08:22Ha-ha! And he set to work.
0:08:22 > 0:08:26He snipped at the seaweed with his claws.
0:08:26 > 0:08:28Snip-snip-snip, they went.
0:08:28 > 0:08:32"Buster's giving Reginald a haircut," laughed Andrew.
0:08:32 > 0:08:37And with a final, Snip, snip, pop-pop-pop-pop,
0:08:37 > 0:08:39Buster finished the job.
0:08:39 > 0:08:43Reginald smiled a great, big smile.
0:08:43 > 0:08:47"Thank you for my haircut," he boomed.
0:08:47 > 0:08:52"Those claws of yours are extremely useful."
0:08:52 > 0:08:56Well, Buster beamed with pleasure.
0:08:56 > 0:08:58Just then, Bertrum popped up.
0:08:58 > 0:09:01He looked at all the pieces of seaweed
0:09:01 > 0:09:05from Reginald's haircut floating in the water.
0:09:05 > 0:09:09"Oh, dear, more seaweed to clear up," he said.
0:09:09 > 0:09:13"Not to worry," said Reginald.
0:09:13 > 0:09:19"I think the rockpoolers can gather up the seaweed to play hairdressers.
0:09:19 > 0:09:21HE CHUCKLES
0:09:21 > 0:09:23And that's exactly what they did.
0:09:23 > 0:09:29And Buster snipped away, giving them crazy, seaweedy hairstyles.
0:09:29 > 0:09:30Whoo!
0:09:30 > 0:09:33Buster smiled and smiled,
0:09:33 > 0:09:39very happy with his extremely useful claws.
0:09:42 > 0:09:44Ernie looked up from the rock pool.
0:09:44 > 0:09:46Do you know what?
0:09:46 > 0:09:49I'm going to give that sand drawing of mine a haircut.
0:09:49 > 0:09:53So we all hurried away from the rock pool
0:09:53 > 0:09:57and went to find Ernie's drawing on the beach,
0:09:57 > 0:10:00but the tide had started to come in
0:10:00 > 0:10:04and Ernie's drawing looked very different.
0:10:04 > 0:10:06The seaweed's been washed away!
0:10:06 > 0:10:09The sea has given you a haircut!
0:10:09 > 0:10:10"I know," said Ernie.
0:10:10 > 0:10:15"Let's go and draw faces further up the beach,
0:10:15 > 0:10:16"away from the water."
0:10:16 > 0:10:20I think we'll use pebbles for hair this time.
0:10:20 > 0:10:27So we left Ernie's drawing to be slowly washed away by the sea,
0:10:27 > 0:10:32and we played and played until the waves came in
0:10:32 > 0:10:37and covered the rock pool like a great seaweedy blanket.
0:10:42 > 0:10:46Right, come on, Salty, we'll go for a run around the beach
0:10:46 > 0:10:49and then we'll get you booked in for a haircut.
0:10:51 > 0:10:55Why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? All right?
0:10:55 > 0:10:58Hm-hm-hm! Goodbye.
0:10:58 > 0:11:00Come on, girl! That's it! Come on!
