0:01:44 > 0:01:49Oh-ho! Now, that's got a story to tell, haven't you? Yes.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52Yes, it all happened when I was a boy
0:01:52 > 0:01:56in a twinkly time long, long ago.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Ha-ha!
0:01:58 > 0:02:02I used to run down to the beach as often as I could.
0:02:02 > 0:02:07Meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.
0:02:14 > 0:02:15What are you doing?
0:02:15 > 0:02:19One day, we were playing pirates
0:02:19 > 0:02:22and finding pebbles and shells in the sand,
0:02:22 > 0:02:25and pretending they were jewels from a pirate's treasure chest.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27Ha-ha-ha!
0:02:27 > 0:02:31- There'll be jewels in the rockpools! - Let's go and look for treasure!
0:02:31 > 0:02:34But Sue stopped in her tracks.
0:02:34 > 0:02:39Oh, no! Look at the buttons on my new cardigan! The middle one's gone!
0:02:39 > 0:02:42And surely enough, it had.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45Sue decided to retrace her footsteps
0:02:45 > 0:02:48to see if she could find her button.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51Go and explore the rockpools, I'll meet you here later.
0:02:51 > 0:02:56So Ernie and I scrambled off in search of jewels
0:02:56 > 0:02:59washed into the rockpools by the sea.
0:02:59 > 0:03:04And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters,
0:03:04 > 0:03:08a magical world appeared before our eyes.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18On this particular day, Belinda the Blenny
0:03:18 > 0:03:21saw something very colourful
0:03:21 > 0:03:24and very unusual stuck between the rocks.
0:03:24 > 0:03:28It was red and round and flat.
0:03:28 > 0:03:31And Belinda thought it was beautiful.
0:03:31 > 0:03:36With a tug and a heave, she managed to wiggle it out.
0:03:36 > 0:03:41And then, very carefully, she carried it all the way home.
0:03:41 > 0:03:45As she swam home, she passed Andrew the Anemone.
0:03:45 > 0:03:48"Morning, Belinda", he said. "What have you got there?"
0:03:48 > 0:03:51"I don't know", said Belinda,
0:03:51 > 0:03:54"but it's very lovely and I need to get it home".
0:03:54 > 0:03:57Andrew looked at it very carefully.
0:03:57 > 0:04:01"I think it's a button from the big world outside."
0:04:01 > 0:04:07"Well" she said, "I need to put my button in a safe place."
0:04:07 > 0:04:09"Oh, really?" said Andrew.
0:04:09 > 0:04:13"Couldn't we play with it and whizz it around like a saucer?"
0:04:13 > 0:04:17"No," said Belinda, hurriedly. "It's too precious.
0:04:17 > 0:04:21"I must put it in a safe place." And she rushed off.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24Yes, you know all about safe places, don't you, Salty?
0:04:24 > 0:04:27That's where you put your tennis balls, isn't it?
0:04:27 > 0:04:30Yeah, anyway, Belinda's safe place
0:04:30 > 0:04:34was a little cupboard on the wall of her home.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38And she put the button very carefully inside
0:04:38 > 0:04:40and closed the door.
0:04:40 > 0:04:44"There!", she said to herself, "nice and safe."
0:04:44 > 0:04:48Then she went outside to look at the pretty flowers
0:04:48 > 0:04:52that bloomed around her home on the rocky ridge.
0:04:52 > 0:04:57After a while, she heard a shout. "Hiya, Belinda!"
0:04:57 > 0:05:02It was her friend, Sally the Starfish. She'd come to play.
0:05:02 > 0:05:06Belinda was very keen to show Sally her lovely red button,
0:05:06 > 0:05:11so she asked her inside and opened the door to her cupboard.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14"My button", she said, proudly.
0:05:14 > 0:05:18Sally peered inside the cupboard
0:05:18 > 0:05:21and then she looked at Belinda
0:05:21 > 0:05:24and then she peered inside the cupboard again.
0:05:24 > 0:05:27"But there's nothing there", said Sally.
0:05:27 > 0:05:31Belinda looked inside, and it was true.
0:05:31 > 0:05:35Her red button had disappeared.
0:05:35 > 0:05:39Well, as you can imagine, Belinda was very, very upset.
0:05:39 > 0:05:42"I really loved that button", she said.
0:05:42 > 0:05:45"How could it have disappeared like that?"
0:05:45 > 0:05:47"Never mind", said Sally,
0:05:47 > 0:05:51"I've got just the thing to make everything better."
0:05:51 > 0:05:55And with that, she dashed next door to her own home in the rocks
0:05:55 > 0:05:59and brought out a bright, shiny, red button.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02"Look", she said, happily,
0:06:02 > 0:06:05"I have one, too. Come and play with mine."
0:06:05 > 0:06:09Well, Sally and Belinda whizzed the button around for ages.
0:06:09 > 0:06:13One of Sally's whizzes whizzed the button so high
0:06:13 > 0:06:17that it flew out of the rockpool,
0:06:17 > 0:06:19before falling back with a splash.
0:06:19 > 0:06:23"I love this game", laughed Belinda.
0:06:23 > 0:06:28Well, they played and they played until they felt tired,
0:06:28 > 0:06:30and they agreed it was time to go home.
0:06:31 > 0:06:35Sally took her red button back to her cosy home
0:06:35 > 0:06:38and she popped it in her cupboard.
0:06:38 > 0:06:43Belinda, with a sad little sigh, went home with nothing,
0:06:43 > 0:06:49except the memory of what fun she'd had playing with Sally.
0:06:49 > 0:06:53Inside, Belinda went over to her little cupboard.
0:06:53 > 0:06:55She missed her button.
0:06:55 > 0:06:59She opened the door to have one last look at the space
0:06:59 > 0:07:01where the button should be, and...
0:07:01 > 0:07:05there it was, right where she'd left it.
0:07:05 > 0:07:08The red button was back in her cupboard.
0:07:09 > 0:07:12Now, how did that happen, Salty, eh?
0:07:12 > 0:07:16Well, Belinda had no idea, but she was so happy to see it again
0:07:16 > 0:07:18that she snatched it out of the cupboard
0:07:18 > 0:07:21and hurried next door to Sally's house to tell her.
0:07:21 > 0:07:24"Sally? Sally? Look, my red button's back!"
0:07:24 > 0:07:28"That's amazing", laughed Sally. "Now we've got two buttons.
0:07:28 > 0:07:30"Let me get mine."
0:07:30 > 0:07:34Sally dashed over to her cupboard on the wall and opened it.
0:07:34 > 0:07:38And, do you know? The button was gone.
0:07:38 > 0:07:41Sally could not believe her eyes.
0:07:41 > 0:07:46"But I put it here after we finished our game", she cried.
0:07:47 > 0:07:51Belinda and Sally didn't understand what was going on.
0:07:53 > 0:07:58"Hm", said Belinda, "I'm going to put my button back in a safe place.
0:07:58 > 0:08:02"There are too many disappearing buttons today."
0:08:02 > 0:08:03And she rushed home.
0:08:03 > 0:08:08Sally went back over to her cupboard to see if, by some chance,
0:08:08 > 0:08:10she'd missed the red button.
0:08:10 > 0:08:12She opened the door and,
0:08:12 > 0:08:17to her astonishment, what did she see?
0:08:17 > 0:08:21It was Belinda, holding the red button.
0:08:21 > 0:08:25"Belinda", said Sally.
0:08:25 > 0:08:27"Sally", said Belinda.
0:08:27 > 0:08:31They stared at each other from either side of the cupboard
0:08:31 > 0:08:33for a moment or two.
0:08:33 > 0:08:36They blinked, and then, slowly...
0:08:36 > 0:08:38Ha-ha-ha-ha!
0:08:38 > 0:08:41..slowly, they realised what was going on.
0:08:41 > 0:08:43Did you guess?
0:08:43 > 0:08:44Yes!
0:08:44 > 0:08:49"I think the back of my cupboard is the door to your cupboard",
0:08:49 > 0:08:51said Sally, laughing.
0:08:51 > 0:08:52"I think the back of my cupboard
0:08:52 > 0:08:55"is the door to your cupboard", laughed Belinda.
0:08:55 > 0:09:00"That's because we live next door to each other", smiled Sally.
0:09:00 > 0:09:06That also meant that there had only ever been one cupboard
0:09:06 > 0:09:09and one red button.
0:09:09 > 0:09:13"I think because we're the best of friends", said Belinda,
0:09:13 > 0:09:18"and we share a cupboard, we could also share the red button.
0:09:18 > 0:09:21"In fact, we could be button buddies!"
0:09:21 > 0:09:24And then they rushed outside to play together
0:09:24 > 0:09:28in the still waters of the rockpool for the rest of the day.
0:09:28 > 0:09:33Friends and button buddies forever.
0:09:34 > 0:09:38I've looked everywhere we've been and I can't find my button.
0:09:38 > 0:09:43Sue gazed into the rockpool, looking glum.
0:09:43 > 0:09:48But there, twinkling in the water was a little red button.
0:09:48 > 0:09:51Sue's missing button.
0:09:51 > 0:09:54- There it is! - I'm sure it wasn't there before.
0:09:56 > 0:09:59"Rockpools are magical places, Jack", Ernie smiled.
0:09:59 > 0:10:03- Sue fished the button out with a cheer.- Hooray!
0:10:03 > 0:10:06We all got up and ran back to Sue's house
0:10:06 > 0:10:09so that she could sew her button back on,
0:10:09 > 0:10:13and we could eat her mum's cake.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15Oh! It was the best in Staithes.
0:10:15 > 0:10:17Yeah.
0:10:17 > 0:10:19And then the tide came in
0:10:19 > 0:10:24and covered the rockpool like a great seaweedy blanket.
0:10:24 > 0:10:25Hm-hm-hm!
0:10:29 > 0:10:31There we are, there we are. Ha!
0:10:31 > 0:10:34What do you think, eh? Hee-hee-hee!
0:10:34 > 0:10:38Perfect place for a red button, isn't it, Salty, eh?
0:10:44 > 0:10:49Why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? Hm!
0:10:49 > 0:10:51Goodbye!
