0:01:13 > 0:01:15Ah, hello.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19It's feeling rather chilly in Staithes today,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22so Salty's wearing her special winter coat.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26Yes, Salty, you look lovely, you do. Yes. And I've got this.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28It's an old balaclava, you see.

0:01:28 > 0:01:33There we are. Watch this. Let's see. Just put it on.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34There we are.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38There we are. How do I look, Salty? I'll put my glasses on as well.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41There. Doesn't look bad, does it? HE LAUGHS

0:01:41 > 0:01:43SALTY WHINES

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Lovely. Right, then.

0:01:46 > 0:01:51Do you know, I remember a time, quite a while back now,

0:01:51 > 0:01:55when Little Ernie wasn't so keen to wear his balaclava.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Yes, it all happened when I was a boy,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02in a twinkly time long, long ago.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09I used to run down to the beach as often as I could,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and Little Sailor Sue.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23My hands are really cold today.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26We used to play on the beach in all weathers

0:02:26 > 0:02:31and, as long as we were wrapped up warm, we would stay out for hours.

0:02:31 > 0:02:36Well, one day, we were wearing our woolly hats and scarves.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Ernie had a balaclava.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Now, Ernie's balaclava was new.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45His auntie had given it to him as a present.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49"Let's play Woolly Monsters," suggested Sue.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53So we chased each other down the beach.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57But suddenly Ernie stopped and tugged off his balaclava.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00It's scratchy. I don't want to wear it any more!

0:03:00 > 0:03:05And at that moment, the wind whipped the balaclava out of his hand

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and blew it along the beach.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10We chased it as it tumbled along,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12and it landed by the rockpools.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Got it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:20We were right by our favourite rockpool by then,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23and as we gazed deep down into the glittery green waters,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26a magical world appeared before our eyes.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31It was a wintry day in the rockpool

0:03:31 > 0:03:36and the tide had washed in a tangly jungle of seaweed.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39And when Sally the Starfish tried to get out of her home,

0:03:39 > 0:03:41she got all tangled up.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44"Scupper my suppers," she giggled.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47"I'm in a bit of a tangle."

0:03:47 > 0:03:49She wasn't the only one.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53As the other creatures tried to come out of their homes, one by one,

0:03:53 > 0:03:56they all got into terrible tangles.

0:03:56 > 0:04:01Bertrum the Butterfish had long, seaweedy fronds

0:04:01 > 0:04:04twining around, all over his long body.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08Sidney the Snail had seaweed twisted around his feelers,

0:04:08 > 0:04:12and Sheena - oh! - she looked like she'd grown a garden

0:04:12 > 0:04:15on her little shrimpy body.

0:04:16 > 0:04:21The creatures let out lots of "Oohs" and "Oh, ho-ho! "Oh, that tickles!"

0:04:21 > 0:04:24as they tried to struggle free.

0:04:24 > 0:04:29And then Buster the Crab popped his head out of his doorway.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32"What's all the fuss about?" he snapped.

0:04:32 > 0:04:37"There's so much seaweed we can't get out of our homes," cried Sally.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40"Well, I could sort that out," said Buster. "It's easy."

0:04:40 > 0:04:43A snip here and a snap there -

0:04:43 > 0:04:47he used his claws to clip a pathway,

0:04:47 > 0:04:51and with a few more snips here, and a few more snaps there,

0:04:51 > 0:04:54he'd soon freed all his friends.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58"Snip, snap, this way and that. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!"

0:04:59 > 0:05:03So Sally rolled up all the loose snippings

0:05:03 > 0:05:05into a big seaweedy ball.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09"Snip, snap, this way and that."

0:05:09 > 0:05:13And then Sheena had an idea.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16She took the loose ends from the giant seaweed ball

0:05:16 > 0:05:19and wound it round her legs.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21And then she started to

0:05:21 > 0:05:24clickety clicketyclack them, very speedily.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27"What are you doing?" asked Sally.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30"I'm knitting the seaweed!" said Sheena, giggling.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34"Oh, how clever. Can you knit me

0:05:34 > 0:05:37"a nice, thick, seaweedy scarf, please?" said Buster.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39"Yes, of course."

0:05:39 > 0:05:44And soon Sheena had knitted a beautiful seaweed scarf for Buster,

0:05:44 > 0:05:47a cosy shell cover for Sidney,

0:05:47 > 0:05:50a long, thin sock for Bertrum,

0:05:50 > 0:05:54and a lovely little knitted top for herself.

0:05:54 > 0:05:59The creatures all felt a lot warmer, and they looked good, too.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02"But what about Reginald?" said Buster.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Poor Reginald the Great Wise Limpet

0:06:05 > 0:06:09was stuck on his rock in the world up top,

0:06:09 > 0:06:12and he must have been feeling ever so cold.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17"Poor Reginald. Yes, I'll knit him something as well," said Sheena.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20"And you can take it to him, Buster."

0:06:20 > 0:06:25So, Sheena knitted Reginald a special balaclava.

0:06:25 > 0:06:29Now, we know what a balaclava is,

0:06:29 > 0:06:31but the rockpoolers didn't.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35So Sally made up a name.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39"It's a...

0:06:39 > 0:06:43"It's a special warm thing," she said.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46When Buster went up top to deliver it,

0:06:46 > 0:06:50Reginald looked bright blue with the cold.

0:06:50 > 0:06:55"Oh, Great Wise Limpet, you look rather blue," said Buster.

0:06:55 > 0:07:00"Here's a warm thing. Sheena knitted it for you."

0:07:00 > 0:07:01REGINALD CHITTERS

0:07:01 > 0:07:05"Thank you a thousand times.

0:07:05 > 0:07:12"I-I-I am so v-v-v-ery, very cold," said Reginald.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15But just then, there was a loud "Caw-waaah!"

0:07:15 > 0:07:19and a seagull swooped down and pecked at the warm thing.

0:07:19 > 0:07:20SALTY BARKS

0:07:20 > 0:07:24Yeah, I know, seagulls are terribly troublesome sometimes,

0:07:24 > 0:07:27aren't they, Salty? Yeah.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30"Get off, you feathery pirate!" cried Reginald.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33"Leave my warm thing alone."

0:07:33 > 0:07:36But the seagull, he was cold too,

0:07:36 > 0:07:38and it wanted the warm thing.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41It swooped down again and tugged at it with its beak.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45"It's not nice to snatch," said Reginald.

0:07:45 > 0:07:50"Stop!" cried Buster, and with a quick whip of his claw,

0:07:50 > 0:07:53he grabbed the warm thing.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56But the seagull would not let go.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59Up and up it flew, and Buster went too,

0:07:59 > 0:08:02desperately clinging to the warm thing.

0:08:02 > 0:08:08"Oh! Help! Help! Buster's in the sky!" cried Reginald.

0:08:08 > 0:08:12All the creatures popped their heads out of the rockpool

0:08:12 > 0:08:14to see what was going on.

0:08:14 > 0:08:18At that moment, the seagull opened his beak,

0:08:18 > 0:08:22and suddenly Buster was tumbling through the sky.

0:08:22 > 0:08:28"Ohhh, I'm fa-a-a-alling!" he cried.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33"I can't look!" cried Sidney, disappearing into his shell.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38Then the wind got caught under the warm thing. Woosh!

0:08:38 > 0:08:42And it spread it out like a woolly parachute.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46"It's OK! Wee-hee-hee!

0:08:46 > 0:08:50"I'm all right now!" Buster cried,

0:08:50 > 0:08:54as he landed safely back in the rockpool

0:08:54 > 0:08:56with a gentle splash.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59"Here we go, Reginald," he said.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02"Have your warm thing back. Ha-ha-ha!"

0:09:02 > 0:09:07Reginald felt very snugly in his warm thing.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11"Perhaps the seagull is cold, too," said Sally,

0:09:11 > 0:09:14watching the seagull as it landed nearby.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16"It does look a bit blue."

0:09:16 > 0:09:19So Sheena disappeared for a moment,

0:09:19 > 0:09:24then reappeared with a special seaweed bobble hat.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28"Here you are, seagull, this is for you," she said,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31tossing it up into the sky.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34The seagull took off and swooped down.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38And it squawked, "Thank you!"

0:09:38 > 0:09:42And it scooped up the bobble hat onto his cold, feathery head.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46They're very clever, the seagulls in Staithes, you know.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49Oh, yes, they are.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53Well, by the time we'd finished looking in the rockpool,

0:09:53 > 0:09:56Ernie's ears felt icy.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58I hope they don't drop off!

0:09:58 > 0:10:01He rubbed his ears, and he complained because

0:10:01 > 0:10:03he didn't like the scratchy balaclava.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05Here, we'll swap.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08So I gave Ernie my hat,

0:10:08 > 0:10:10and I wore the balaclava,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13and we were all snug and warm.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15And it wasn't really itchy at all.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17THEY SHOUT

0:10:17 > 0:10:19- Let's play tig! I'll be it!- No!

0:10:19 > 0:10:24And so we ran back onto the beach like three woolly beasts,

0:10:24 > 0:10:27waving our arms and roaring into the wind.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33We played for the rest of the day,

0:10:33 > 0:10:35until the tide came in

0:10:35 > 0:10:39and covered the rockpool like a great seaweedy blanket.

0:10:40 > 0:10:45Sometimes, it's good to be a woolly beast, Salty.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Isn't it, eh?

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Yeah, that's right, yeah.

0:10:49 > 0:10:54"Waaah! Come and join us next time

0:10:54 > 0:10:57"for some more Rockpool Tales!

0:10:57 > 0:11:00"Wo-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

0:11:00 > 0:11:01Goodbye.
