0:01:10 > 0:01:12TOOT!

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Oh, hello.

0:01:15 > 0:01:20I was just going to give Salty one of her biscuit bones.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Ready? Hey, come on.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Here.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27There you are. Look at that.

0:01:27 > 0:01:32Yes, Salty, you're the best biscuit-biter on this boat.

0:01:32 > 0:01:37You know, I was Jack, the Cloud-Catcher once. Yeah.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Would you like to know how I got that name?

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Right, I'll tell you the story.

0:01:43 > 0:01:50It all happened when I was a boy in a twinkly time long, long ago.

0:01:52 > 0:01:57I used to run down to the beach as often as I could

0:01:57 > 0:02:02meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12One special day a circus came to Staithes

0:02:12 > 0:02:16and we got candyfloss as a treat.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20When the show was over we ran to the beach talking about all the

0:02:20 > 0:02:23magical things we'd seen.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25I really liked the juggling.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Sue was wearing a fluffy headband

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and she played balancing on the rocks.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35I'm Soaring Sue, the tightrope walker.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40"And you are Twirly Ernie, the best cup-spinner in Staithes!"

0:02:42 > 0:02:46But I couldn't think of a circus name for myself,

0:02:46 > 0:02:51so I made my way over to our favourite rock pool.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Sue and Ernie came, too and,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57as we settled down and gazed deep into the glittery waters,

0:02:57 > 0:03:02a magical world appeared before our eyes.

0:03:07 > 0:03:12The rock pool looked more magical than usual on this particular day

0:03:12 > 0:03:17because every year the rock pool creatures put on a show...

0:03:17 > 0:03:18SALTY WOOFS

0:03:18 > 0:03:22Yes, Salty, I know you like a show. So do I.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26And every year they had the same audience -

0:03:26 > 0:03:32a very enthusiastic family of visiting pipefish.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34"Hello, folks, here we are again"

0:03:34 > 0:03:38said the longest pipefish excitedly.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42The pipefish curled their tails around the seaweed

0:03:42 > 0:03:46so they wouldn't float off and they piped with excitement,

0:03:46 > 0:03:50"Ooh, aah, ee, we can't wait to see the show!"

0:03:50 > 0:03:54Bertram, the butterfish, whizzed up to greet them.

0:03:54 > 0:04:00Now he was dressed up as Bertram Butteroli, the showman,

0:04:00 > 0:04:03in a sparkly top hat and a matching bow tie.

0:04:03 > 0:04:08"Is the show going to start soon?" asked the smallest pipefish.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10They piped with excitement -

0:04:10 > 0:04:15"Pi-pi-pi! Pa-pa-pa! Pi-pi-pi! Pi-pi-po! Pi-pi-pi-pi!"

0:04:15 > 0:04:20"I hope it's even better than last year" said a very stripy pipefish,

0:04:20 > 0:04:22bobbing up and down eagerly.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26And suddenly, Bertram announced,

0:04:26 > 0:04:29"Lady pipefish and gentlemen pipefish,

0:04:29 > 0:04:32"little pipefish and stripy pipefish,

0:04:32 > 0:04:35"please give your loudest cheer

0:04:35 > 0:04:40"for Sally, the ju-u-uggling starfish!"

0:04:41 > 0:04:45Sally cartwheeled into the centre of the sandy floor

0:04:45 > 0:04:50juggling some of her favourite shells and, as the music got faster,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52so did Sally's juggling.

0:04:52 > 0:04:58"Wiggly-jiggly, I wish I could do that!" said the littlest pipefish.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00"We like your juggling, Sally. It's brilliant"

0:05:00 > 0:05:02said the longest pipefish.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05"And it was brilliant the last time you did it, too."

0:05:05 > 0:05:10"But can you do anything new?" the stripy pipefish piped up.

0:05:10 > 0:05:17Well, it just so happened that Sally did have a new juggling trick

0:05:17 > 0:05:20which she'd been practising.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23The musical rock played a drum roll

0:05:23 > 0:05:26as Sally started juggling her shells again.

0:05:26 > 0:05:32Then, one by one, she tossed each shell aside so that they made

0:05:32 > 0:05:37a magnificent wibbly-wobbly shell tower.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41The pipefish cheered, Sally bowed

0:05:41 > 0:05:43and then cartwheeled off.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47"Next it is Sheena, The Fearless.

0:05:47 > 0:05:53"This little shrimp can trapeze with ease" cried Bertram,

0:05:53 > 0:05:56as Sheena swung out doing a somersault

0:05:56 > 0:06:00and catching the trapeze again just in time.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02The pipefish cheered.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04"And now for my latest trick.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06"You won't have seen this one before!"

0:06:06 > 0:06:09Sheena told the pipefish.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Then Sheena twisted herself upwards

0:06:13 > 0:06:16in a long frond of trailing seaweed.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18Higher and higher she went.

0:06:18 > 0:06:24Then suddenly she dropped swiftly like a stone.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26The pipefish gasped.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Then, boi-oi-oing!

0:06:28 > 0:06:33The seaweed stopped just short of the rock pool floor.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35Blump!

0:06:35 > 0:06:38The pipefish were ecstatic!

0:06:38 > 0:06:42"And last, but not least, it is Andrew,

0:06:42 > 0:06:46"the amazingly aerodynamic acrobat!" cried Bertram.

0:06:49 > 0:06:55Andrew the anemone appeared and leapt onto his seaweed trampoline.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59He started showing off his somersaults and his twists

0:06:59 > 0:07:05and he jumped so high that he jumped right out of the rock pool,

0:07:05 > 0:07:10did a special spaghetti twist and then splashed right back down again.

0:07:10 > 0:07:14"Ah, jiggly-wiggly!" cried the littlest pipefish.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18"Your spaghetti twist is just as good as the last time you did it.

0:07:18 > 0:07:23"But can you do any new tricks?" asked the stripy pipefish.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25SALTY WHIMPERS

0:07:25 > 0:07:29Yes, I know, Salty, there is no pleasing some people, is there?

0:07:29 > 0:07:33And there's no pleasing some pipefish either.

0:07:33 > 0:07:38Andrew hadn't practised any new tricks, but he didn't seem to mind.

0:07:38 > 0:07:43"I can do anything," he boasted to the pipefish.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47"Can you bounce all the way to the clouds?"

0:07:47 > 0:07:49asked the longest pipefish.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53"Course I can," said Andrew, "I'll show you."

0:07:53 > 0:07:55Yes, I know, Salt, I know.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59Being boasty isn't good at all.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02Sally was worried about her friend.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05"The clouds are a very long way, Andrew.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09"I'm not sure anyone can bounce as far as that."

0:08:09 > 0:08:12But Andrew was determined.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15Boing, boing, boing he bounced

0:08:15 > 0:08:19and he bounced, but he couldn't reach the clouds.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23He tried again - bo-oi-oi-oi-oi-oing!

0:08:23 > 0:08:26And again - boing! But it was no use.

0:08:26 > 0:08:31"Oh, I wish I hadn't been so boasty," he thought,

0:08:31 > 0:08:34but he decided to try one last time.

0:08:34 > 0:08:38Boing! Boing!

0:08:38 > 0:08:39Boing!

0:08:39 > 0:08:44Up he went and then on the way down, guess what happened.

0:08:44 > 0:08:49He brushed past Sue's fluffy headband,

0:08:49 > 0:08:51taking some with him.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54He landed and the pipefish cheered.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56"Look!" cried the pipefish,

0:08:56 > 0:08:58"He's been to the clouds and he's brought

0:08:58 > 0:09:02"a little slip of cloud back with him."

0:09:02 > 0:09:04"Er, yeah, well, um..."

0:09:04 > 0:09:09Andrew tried to explain, but the pipefish were too busy cheering.

0:09:09 > 0:09:13"Yeah, thank you for the show" said the stripy pipefish.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15"Even better than last year!"

0:09:17 > 0:09:21I looked down at my candyfloss

0:09:21 > 0:09:24and that looked very fluffy, too

0:09:24 > 0:09:29and then I thought of a circus name for myself.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32I'm Jack, the Cloud-Catcher!

0:09:32 > 0:09:34"I'm Jack, the Cloud-Catcher"

0:09:34 > 0:09:39I said, holding my candyfloss up as if it were a cloud on a stick.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44And off we went back down the beach.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48Twirly Ernie spinning his cup.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Soaring Sue balancing on the rocks

0:09:51 > 0:09:56and Jack, the Cloud-Catcher, with the cloud on a stick.

0:09:57 > 0:10:03And we played for the rest of the day until the tide came in

0:10:03 > 0:10:08and covered the rock pool like a great seaweedy blanket.

0:10:14 > 0:10:20Ah, Salty, they were magical days back then, they were.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Salty, come here. Come on.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Come on. I've found something behind your ear. Look at that.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29You were hiding that, weren't you?

0:10:29 > 0:10:32HE LAUGHS

0:10:32 > 0:10:33Good girl.

0:10:33 > 0:10:38Yes, you can always find a bit of magic if you look, can't you, girl?

0:10:38 > 0:10:43You come back soon for some more Rockpool Tales, all right?

0:10:43 > 0:10:48Goodbye. It's empty. Sorry.
