0:01:19 > 0:01:21Oh, thank you! Ha-ha-ha!
0:01:21 > 0:01:25Ah! Lovely! What's this all about, then, Salty?
0:01:25 > 0:01:27Eh?
0:01:27 > 0:01:30Oh! Well, I never!
0:01:30 > 0:01:32It's an invitation.
0:01:32 > 0:01:37It's my friend Sam's birthday party this afternoon.
0:01:37 > 0:01:44And that's perfect, because it means I've got time to tell you a story.
0:01:44 > 0:01:48And it's a story about a party invitation.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50One that went missing.
0:01:50 > 0:01:55Yes. Oh! It all happened when I was a boy.
0:01:57 > 0:02:01In a twinkly time long, long ago.
0:02:01 > 0:02:03Hello, Sue!
0:02:03 > 0:02:06I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could.
0:02:06 > 0:02:12Meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21One afternoon, Little Sailor Sue and I were looking
0:02:21 > 0:02:26for shells on the beach and we were wondering where Little Ernie was.
0:02:28 > 0:02:32I spotted a familiar shape over by the rocks.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34That's Ernie. What's he doing?
0:02:36 > 0:02:41He was flapping his arms in the air and jumping from rock to rock,
0:02:41 > 0:02:44as if he was chasing something.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48Well, Sue and I decided that Ernie probably needed some help,
0:02:48 > 0:02:49so off we dashed.
0:02:49 > 0:02:54When we got there, Ernie was looking muddled.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56It must be here somewhere!
0:02:56 > 0:02:59"What are you looking for?" I asked.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01A party invitation.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04"A party invitation," Ernie replied.
0:03:04 > 0:03:09The wind had blown it out of his hand. Whoosh!
0:03:09 > 0:03:12And he'd chased it and chased it, but it got away.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14Now I can't find it anywhere!
0:03:14 > 0:03:19So Ernie hopped off to find the lost party invitation,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22looking in every rockpool as he went.
0:03:22 > 0:03:26Sue and I looked in the rockpool near to us,
0:03:26 > 0:03:30and as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters,
0:03:30 > 0:03:33a magical world appeared before our eyes.
0:03:41 > 0:03:44One bright morning, Andrew the anemone
0:03:44 > 0:03:48was bouncing across the sandy bed of the rockpool
0:03:48 > 0:03:52when he heard a "plop" sound from up above.
0:03:52 > 0:03:56Something had landed in the rockpool.
0:03:56 > 0:04:00He looked up and he saw a strange object
0:04:00 > 0:04:03floating on the surface above him.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06"That needs investigating," he said to himself.
0:04:06 > 0:04:11So he swished his way through the water and plopped out
0:04:11 > 0:04:12next to the strange object,
0:04:12 > 0:04:16and right next to Reginald, the great wise limpet.
0:04:16 > 0:04:20"Wow!" said Andrew. "What's that?"
0:04:20 > 0:04:25"I have no idea," said Reginald, in his grand voice.
0:04:25 > 0:04:32"But it came from the sky, so I imagine it's a kite with no tail."
0:04:32 > 0:04:35"Isn't it a bit small to be a kite?" he said.
0:04:35 > 0:04:39"A proper kite would fill this whole rockpool."
0:04:39 > 0:04:43"Then it must be a very tiny kite
0:04:43 > 0:04:46"flown by a very tiny person,"
0:04:46 > 0:04:48said Reginald, wisely.
0:04:48 > 0:04:54"I imagine they weren't big enough to hold onto it and it flew off."
0:04:55 > 0:04:58You like flying kites, don't you, Salty?
0:04:58 > 0:05:00Oh-ho, she does, honestly! Ha!
0:05:00 > 0:05:05Anyway, Andrew swam carefully over to the tiny kite
0:05:05 > 0:05:09floating in the water and he inspected it.
0:05:09 > 0:05:13He saw there was an opening on one end, and carefully,
0:05:13 > 0:05:17he wriggled under the opening to see what was inside.
0:05:17 > 0:05:20And inside was another piece of paper.
0:05:20 > 0:05:23It was decorated with balloons and said,
0:05:23 > 0:05:27"You are invited to a party."
0:05:27 > 0:05:29Well, it wasn't a kite, was it? WOOF!
0:05:29 > 0:05:31Yeah, that's right, Salty.
0:05:31 > 0:05:36Yes, Andrew had clambered inside an envelope
0:05:36 > 0:05:39and found a party invitation.
0:05:39 > 0:05:40Ha!
0:05:40 > 0:05:44Just then, Andrew felt the envelope move
0:05:44 > 0:05:48and he felt himself start to rise up in the air.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52He wriggled back to the opening of the envelope and peeped out,
0:05:52 > 0:05:54and there he saw the rockpool below him,
0:05:54 > 0:05:59with Reginald looking up at him with a surprised look on his face.
0:05:59 > 0:06:03"I told you it was a kite," called Reginald.
0:06:03 > 0:06:08"It must be. You are flying away, up in the sky."
0:06:08 > 0:06:11And it was true.
0:06:11 > 0:06:15Andrew and the party invitation were flying.
0:06:16 > 0:06:21Andrew was being carried by none other than our old friend
0:06:21 > 0:06:24Brenda the stork.
0:06:24 > 0:06:29Brenda had scooped Andrew and the envelope up from the rockpool.
0:06:29 > 0:06:32"Dear me," said Brenda, muttering to herself.
0:06:32 > 0:06:34"Did I drop an envelope?
0:06:34 > 0:06:39"Now it's all wet and I shall have to dry it in my nest."
0:06:39 > 0:06:44With a flap of her great wings, she skimmed off through the sky.
0:06:44 > 0:06:47Inside the envelope, Andrew was rolling
0:06:47 > 0:06:49and tumbling all over the place.
0:06:49 > 0:06:52Which was actually quite fun!
0:06:52 > 0:06:56Well, eventually, Brenda arrived at her big nest,
0:06:56 > 0:07:00which she'd built on one of the chimneypots in Staithes
0:07:00 > 0:07:03with twigs and grass.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06She hung the soggy envelope up to dry.
0:07:06 > 0:07:10"Brenda? Brenda?" called Andrew. "I'm in here!"
0:07:12 > 0:07:14But Brenda hadn't heard him
0:07:14 > 0:07:20and had already set off and was now a little flappy dot in the sky.
0:07:22 > 0:07:24Oh, dear. Not good, is it, Salty, eh?
0:07:24 > 0:07:26SALTY WHIMPERS
0:07:26 > 0:07:30Andrew looked out of his soggy envelope hanging on the line.
0:07:30 > 0:07:33He wanted to be down in his rockpool,
0:07:33 > 0:07:38but his rockpool was a very, very long way down. Oh!
0:07:38 > 0:07:40And then, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
0:07:40 > 0:07:42Andrew had a brilliant idea.
0:07:42 > 0:07:46Brenda would be delivering more letters later,
0:07:46 > 0:07:50and he was going to get himself delivered
0:07:50 > 0:07:54right back to his lovely rockpool and all his friends.
0:07:54 > 0:07:58He nuzzled himself down in the envelope,
0:07:58 > 0:08:00which was drying in the sun.
0:08:00 > 0:08:06Eventually, Brenda flapped back over and inspected the envelope.
0:08:06 > 0:08:11"Well, that looks dry enough to deliver," she said.
0:08:11 > 0:08:14And she plucked the envelope off the washing line,
0:08:14 > 0:08:18popped it into her bag and flew away with it.
0:08:18 > 0:08:23Andrew peeked out of the envelope as the wind whooshed past him.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26He looked down and he saw his rockpool far below.
0:08:26 > 0:08:31And this was really the clever bit of Andrew's plan.
0:08:31 > 0:08:35He wriggled to the end of the envelope
0:08:35 > 0:08:38and then he bounced out of the bag
0:08:38 > 0:08:40and, like the pilot of an airplane,
0:08:40 > 0:08:46he started to fly the envelope this way and that way.
0:08:46 > 0:08:50And it swooped and dived on the sea breezes
0:08:50 > 0:08:53until, with a gentle plop,
0:08:53 > 0:09:00Andrew landed right back in the rockpool. Oh!
0:09:00 > 0:09:05"Welcome home," said Reginald.
0:09:05 > 0:09:11Well, Andrew smiled and smiled and smiled.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14He was home.
0:09:14 > 0:09:19He dived down under the water and went to tell his friends
0:09:19 > 0:09:25all about the incredible adventure he'd had that bright, sunny day.
0:09:25 > 0:09:29Sue and I looked up from the rockpool as we heard Ernie shout...
0:09:29 > 0:09:31There it is!
0:09:31 > 0:09:37He had spotted the envelope floating in the far corner of the rockpool.
0:09:37 > 0:09:40It was his party invitation.
0:09:40 > 0:09:43We fished it out and handed it to him proudly.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46But Ernie, he looked upset.
0:09:46 > 0:09:50Thank you, but it's all wet now. It's ruined.
0:09:50 > 0:09:52"Who was it for?" asked Sue.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55"It was for you two," Ernie said.
0:09:55 > 0:09:58I was inviting you to my party on the beach.
0:09:58 > 0:10:01We looked at each other and we smiled.
0:10:01 > 0:10:05Ernie, we don't need an invitation now, you've just invited us.
0:10:05 > 0:10:07Ernie thought about it and he smiled, too.
0:10:07 > 0:10:09Oh. I suppose I did.
0:10:09 > 0:10:11THEY CHUCKLE
0:10:11 > 0:10:16And with that, we took the soggy invitation back to the beach
0:10:16 > 0:10:17to start the party.
0:10:19 > 0:10:22And we stayed on the beach for the rest of the day,
0:10:22 > 0:10:26until it was time to go home.
0:10:26 > 0:10:29And the tide came in and covered the rockpool
0:10:29 > 0:10:31like a great seaweedy blanket.
0:10:38 > 0:10:42Anyway, we are off to Sam's party now.
0:10:42 > 0:10:44All right, do you want to come?
0:10:44 > 0:10:48Come on. Come on, girl. That's it. Good girl. Come on.
0:10:52 > 0:10:57Oh! Why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time?
0:10:58 > 0:11:00Goodbye. Come on, girl.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02WOOF!
