0:01:16 > 0:01:19You've caught me having a bit of a sort out
0:01:19 > 0:01:22with some of my old bits and bobs.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25This box has got all my old toy cars in it.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Salty's lined some up round her basket. Look.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31Isn't she a clever dog?
0:01:31 > 0:01:36Ha-ha! Yeah, but this was always my favourite car, this was.
0:01:36 > 0:01:37See that?
0:01:37 > 0:01:39It's a black taxi.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45Now, that's a car that you can stop on the street
0:01:45 > 0:01:48and the driver will take you wherever you want to go.
0:01:49 > 0:01:53I've got a few stories to tell about this old toy.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57Yeah, right, and here's one.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01It all happened when I was a boy
0:02:01 > 0:02:05in a twinkly time, long, long ago.
0:02:07 > 0:02:11'I used to run down to the beach as often as I could,
0:02:11 > 0:02:15'meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie
0:02:15 > 0:02:17'and Little Sailor Sue.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26'I had a new toy car.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29'It was a black London taxi.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31'Sue had a bright red racer
0:02:31 > 0:02:34'and Ernie had a yellow truck,
0:02:34 > 0:02:38'which he parked in a garage, made of pebbles.'
0:02:38 > 0:02:40We made roads in the sand
0:02:40 > 0:02:42'and we raced our cars.'
0:02:42 > 0:02:43Beep beep!
0:02:43 > 0:02:47- Come on, let's go to the mountains over there.- OK.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50'I drove my little black taxi up into the mountains,
0:02:50 > 0:02:53'which were really the rocks on the beach.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55'And the winding roads were bumpy,'
0:02:55 > 0:02:57but the view was amazing,
0:02:57 > 0:02:59right down to the beautiful rockpool
0:02:59 > 0:03:06'lakes below. And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters,
0:03:06 > 0:03:10'a magical world appeared before our eyes.'
0:03:12 > 0:03:16One bright morning, Sally the Starfish, Andrew the Anemone
0:03:16 > 0:03:20and Belinda the Blenny were playing in the rockpool.
0:03:20 > 0:03:24"I want to whizz fast today," shouted Andrew.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27And he whizzed off a stone
0:03:27 > 0:03:30and bump-bump-bumped on the sandy bed,
0:03:30 > 0:03:33stopping next to a large flat seashell.
0:03:33 > 0:03:39The seashell had a sign on it that read, "Taxi, wait here."
0:03:39 > 0:03:43"Ooh," he thought, as Sally and Belinda joined him.
0:03:43 > 0:03:48"That sounds interesting. I'm sure taxis can whizz really fast."
0:03:49 > 0:03:53Just then, Sidney the Sea Snail appeared.
0:03:53 > 0:03:59"Hello," he said. "I'm your taxi driver. Can I take you anywhere?"
0:03:59 > 0:04:02The three friends looked around for the taxi,
0:04:02 > 0:04:03but they couldn't see one.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07"Where's your taxi?" said Sally.
0:04:07 > 0:04:10"I am the taxi," laughed Sidney.
0:04:10 > 0:04:13"Where would you like to go?"
0:04:14 > 0:04:20"Well, could you take us to that seaweed over there?" asked Belinda.
0:04:20 > 0:04:24"And could you whizz really fast?" said Andrew.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27Sidney smiled.
0:04:27 > 0:04:31He was very pleased because these were his first customers.
0:04:31 > 0:04:35"Climb on board my shell and we'll set off," he said.
0:04:35 > 0:04:40So, Sally, Andrew and Belinda swam up
0:04:40 > 0:04:43and tried to sit on Sidney's shell.
0:04:43 > 0:04:46"It's a bit slippy," said Andrew.
0:04:46 > 0:04:51"I can't hold on," said Sally. "Whoa!" said Belinda.
0:04:51 > 0:04:57And with a slip slop plop, the three friends slid off Sidney's back
0:04:57 > 0:05:00and landed on the sandy bed of the rockpool.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03Sidney was very disappointed.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06"That wasn't supposed to happen," he said.
0:05:06 > 0:05:09"Well, let's try again," said Andrew.
0:05:09 > 0:05:11They all clambered aboard Sidney's shell
0:05:11 > 0:05:16and with a slip slop plop, they all slid off again.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19"Oh, dear!" said Sidney.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22"This isn't going well."
0:05:22 > 0:05:26"Never mind, we can try again," said Sally.
0:05:26 > 0:05:31She had a plan. "Let's all hold on to each other," she said.
0:05:31 > 0:05:34"That way, we might not slip off."
0:05:34 > 0:05:36So they all held on to each other
0:05:36 > 0:05:39and scribbled and scrabbled onto Sidney's shell.
0:05:39 > 0:05:43It was very, very slippery.
0:05:43 > 0:05:47But this time, holding on to each other seemed to work.
0:05:47 > 0:05:49They managed to stay put.
0:05:49 > 0:05:56"I think we're ready for our taxi ride," said Sally in a wobbly voice.
0:05:56 > 0:05:59"Then let's go," said Sidney.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02"Ha! This is going to be brilliant," said Andrew.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05"I hope we whizz really fast."
0:06:06 > 0:06:10Well, the three friends clung together,
0:06:10 > 0:06:13waiting for the ride to start, and they waited...
0:06:13 > 0:06:15and they waited.
0:06:15 > 0:06:18But they didn't seem to be going anywhere.
0:06:18 > 0:06:20"Um, Sidney," said Sally.
0:06:20 > 0:06:22"Yes," replied Sidney.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26"We don't seem to be moving anywhere," she said.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29"We are moving," Sidney said.
0:06:29 > 0:06:32"Just very, very, very slowly.
0:06:32 > 0:06:36"I'm a snail, you see? I don't move very fast."
0:06:38 > 0:06:42Well, Andrew was getting tired of clinging on to his friends
0:06:42 > 0:06:45and he called down to Sidney, "We want to whizz!
0:06:45 > 0:06:48"Can you go a little faster, please?"
0:06:48 > 0:06:51"I'll try," said Sidney.
0:06:51 > 0:06:54"It's because the three of you are so heavy.
0:06:54 > 0:06:57"It makes me even slower than normal."
0:06:57 > 0:07:01So, Sidney took a deep breath...
0:07:04 > 0:07:06..and with an enormous wiggly bump,
0:07:06 > 0:07:11he managed to go forward a teeny-tiny bit.
0:07:11 > 0:07:13Unfortunately,
0:07:13 > 0:07:18the wiggly bump was too much for the three friends clinging on up above.
0:07:18 > 0:07:20"Whoa!" they shouted.
0:07:20 > 0:07:24And they all slithered off the slippery shell
0:07:24 > 0:07:29and landed slip slop plop in the sand.
0:07:29 > 0:07:34Sidney was very upset. He was the worst taxi in the whole world.
0:07:34 > 0:07:38"No, you're not," said Sally.
0:07:38 > 0:07:40But Sidney was looking sad.
0:07:41 > 0:07:45"I'm never going to be a good taxi,
0:07:45 > 0:07:48"I'm too slippery and I can't whizz."
0:07:48 > 0:07:54So it looked like Sidney's taxi service was closed for business.
0:07:55 > 0:07:57But Sally had an idea.
0:07:57 > 0:08:01She whizzed off to collect some driftwood with a hole in the middle.
0:08:01 > 0:08:06"Ah, hey, Sidney, can I pop this on your shell?"
0:08:06 > 0:08:09Sally put it on Sidney's shell.
0:08:09 > 0:08:14And it made a very nice seat that would not be slippy at all.
0:08:14 > 0:08:18"Jump on with me," she called to her friends,
0:08:18 > 0:08:22so Andrew and Belinda swam over and joined Sally on the seat.
0:08:23 > 0:08:25It wasn't slippery at all.
0:08:25 > 0:08:30Sidney was surprised that everyone could stay on his shell
0:08:30 > 0:08:32without falling off.
0:08:32 > 0:08:38But it still didn't mean he could be a taxi because he couldn't whizz!
0:08:38 > 0:08:42"Oh, I don't know about that," smiled Sally.
0:08:42 > 0:08:47Then that clever little starfish pushed with all her might
0:08:47 > 0:08:51against the rock behind her, and with a little jolt,
0:08:51 > 0:08:54Sidney started to move.
0:08:54 > 0:08:58He couldn't believe it. How was he moving?
0:08:58 > 0:09:01And then Sidney started to whizz.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03How was he whizzing?
0:09:03 > 0:09:09He looked down and saw that a long piece of seaweed on the sand
0:09:09 > 0:09:15was like a slippery slide and Sidney was sliding along it,
0:09:15 > 0:09:17with everyone perched on his shell.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20"Wa-hee!" shouted Belinda.
0:09:20 > 0:09:22"Hurray!" shouted Sally.
0:09:22 > 0:09:25And they whizzed to the end of the seaweed.
0:09:25 > 0:09:27And then they did it all over again.
0:09:28 > 0:09:29And again...
0:09:29 > 0:09:31and again.
0:09:31 > 0:09:34And Sidney laughed and laughed.
0:09:34 > 0:09:39He was the happiest, whizziest snail in the whole rockpool.
0:09:39 > 0:09:41'We looked up from the rockpool
0:09:41 > 0:09:46'and I whizzed my taxi back down the rocky mountains
0:09:46 > 0:09:50and found the road in the sand all the way back to the pebble garage.
0:09:50 > 0:09:54- Can we park in your garage, Ernie? - Yeah, course you can.
0:09:55 > 0:09:57Sue's mum called us over.
0:09:57 > 0:09:58Sue!
0:09:58 > 0:10:01It must be time for the picnic.
0:10:01 > 0:10:02'What a treat!
0:10:02 > 0:10:09'She had made us a lovely picnic with my favourite - cheese butties.
0:10:11 > 0:10:15'We ate our picnic until the tide came in,'
0:10:15 > 0:10:20and covered the rockpool like a great seaweedy blanket.
0:10:25 > 0:10:29Maybe we should drive this old taxi
0:10:29 > 0:10:32over to the Mermaid Cafe.
0:10:32 > 0:10:36Hm? I fancy a nice cup of tea and a cheese butty.
0:10:36 > 0:10:38What about you, girl?
0:10:39 > 0:10:44And why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time?
0:10:44 > 0:10:46Goodbye.
