0:00:58 > 0:01:03Oh! Oh, hello. Salty and I are just having a bit of a dance.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Here's your treat. Good girl!

0:01:05 > 0:01:09She loves to dance, you know, Salty does.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12I think it's time for a sit-down now.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16Do you know, sometimes it feels like Salty is just my shadow -

0:01:16 > 0:01:19whatever I do, she likes to do it too.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23When I have a little dance, she wants to join in

0:01:23 > 0:01:26and when I sit down and get comfy, she gets comfy too.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28SALTY WHINES What?

0:01:28 > 0:01:32Oh, you'd like a story now, would you? All right.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Well, Salty, there was a time, quite a long while ago now,

0:01:36 > 0:01:40when I danced with my shadow on the beach.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43It all happened when I was a boy...

0:01:43 > 0:01:46in a twinkly time, long, long ago.

0:01:48 > 0:01:53I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could,

0:01:53 > 0:01:57meeting up with my best friend, Little Sailor Sue.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01One day, we arrived at the beach later than usual

0:02:01 > 0:02:04and the sun was quite low in the sky

0:02:04 > 0:02:09and it made our shadows look very long, like the shadows of giants.

0:02:09 > 0:02:14When we waved our arms, our giant shadows did too.

0:02:14 > 0:02:19And when we held hands, our giant shadows held hands.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22We took giant steps with our giant shadows

0:02:22 > 0:02:25and it seemed as though they were leading us

0:02:25 > 0:02:29along the beach, until we came to the rockpools.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33Well, when we reached the rockpools, we were keen to see

0:02:33 > 0:02:37what wonderful mysteries they held, so we knelt down

0:02:37 > 0:02:39and peered into them.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters...

0:02:45 > 0:02:49a magical world appeared before our eyes.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56On this particular day in the rockpool,

0:02:56 > 0:03:00Sheena the Shrimp was bursting with energy.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04"It's a lovely day for dancing," she chortled.

0:03:04 > 0:03:09So she bobbed over to her musical rock and pressed its nose.

0:03:09 > 0:03:10PARP!

0:03:10 > 0:03:15Some very jaunty music came blaring out of the shell speakers

0:03:15 > 0:03:17and Sheena started to dance.

0:03:19 > 0:03:24Well, when a shrimp dances, it really is a sight to see

0:03:24 > 0:03:28because everything wiggles, from its tail to its antenna,

0:03:28 > 0:03:31with its legs and its swimmerets in between.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35All the other rockpoolers came to watch Sheena dancing

0:03:35 > 0:03:38and to listen to the jaunty music.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42"Come on, everyone. Don't stand around. Join in," Sheena cried.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45When they saw Sheena having so much fun,

0:03:45 > 0:03:49the other rockpoolers really wanted to dance too,

0:03:49 > 0:03:53but just as they were about to get started, the music stopped.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56"Oh, no," said Sheena, disappointed.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59"My musical rock must be broken."

0:03:59 > 0:04:02SALTY YIPS Yes, I know, Salty,

0:04:02 > 0:04:03it was very sad indeed,

0:04:03 > 0:04:07but within minutes, the music started again.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11"It's working again now," said Sheena, "Let's get dancing."

0:04:11 > 0:04:16She'd just started to wiggle her antenna and flick her tail

0:04:16 > 0:04:18when the music stopped again.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20SALTY WHINES You see, Salty,

0:04:20 > 0:04:25musical rocks don't always work the way they are supposed to, do they?

0:04:25 > 0:04:27SALTY BARKS No, they don't, no.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31"What's wrong with my musical rock?" Sheena wondered.

0:04:31 > 0:04:36"I think it wants to play musical statues," said Sally the Starfish.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39"How do you play musical statues?" asked Sheena,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42her eyes growing large with excitement.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46"Well," said Sally, "When the music plays, we all dance,

0:04:46 > 0:04:51"then when the music stops, we all have to stay as still as statues."

0:04:51 > 0:04:56"And the first one that moves is out," added Buster the Crab.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Sheena the Shrimp loved this idea,

0:04:58 > 0:05:02so as soon as the musical rock started playing again,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04all the rockpoolers began to dance

0:05:04 > 0:05:07and they each danced in a different way.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10Sally the Starfish liked to twirly whirl.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15She looked like a super swirly firework.

0:05:15 > 0:05:21Buster the Crab just stepped from side to side, snapping his claws.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25He took his dancing very seriously.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Andrew the Anemone wriggled his tentacles...

0:05:30 > 0:05:33..and looked rather like a wild wave,

0:05:33 > 0:05:39while Sidney the Snail had a rather nifty way of spinning his shell.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45Belinda the Blenny did the shakety shake.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49And Bertrum the Butterfish

0:05:49 > 0:05:53whizzed about with his hat and his bowtie, spinning.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57Suddenly, the music stopped.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02"Everybody stand still as statues," cried Sally,

0:06:02 > 0:06:04so they did -

0:06:04 > 0:06:09all except Andrew, who couldn't stop his tentacles wriggling in time.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13"A-ha! I'm out!" he called. "I think I'll have a rest now."

0:06:13 > 0:06:16So he disappeared.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19The rock blared out music again

0:06:19 > 0:06:23and the rest of the rockpoolers burst back into life.

0:06:23 > 0:06:27"This is very happy music," chortled Sheena.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30"I like your shakety shake, Belinda."

0:06:30 > 0:06:34Well, Belinda shakety shook even more.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37Just then, the music stopped again.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39All the rockpoolers froze -

0:06:39 > 0:06:44all except Belinda, who had become a bit carried away.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47"Whoops," said Belinda. "I'm out!"

0:06:47 > 0:06:51She felt a little sleepy after all that shakety shaking

0:06:51 > 0:06:54so she swam off to the seaweed to have a nap.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56The music started again

0:06:56 > 0:07:00and the rest of the rockpoolers started dancing again.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03"When I was a young crab, I used to go to the disco

0:07:03 > 0:07:08"every night of the week," called Buster the Crab over the music.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12Just then, the music stopped again and there was silence,

0:07:12 > 0:07:17but dear old Buster kept sidestepping and claw snapping...

0:07:18 > 0:07:24"Oh, snappers! I'm out," he said when he realised the music stopped.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28"Oh, well, my claws were getting a bit tired anyway."

0:07:28 > 0:07:32So he disappeared off to rest his claws.

0:07:32 > 0:07:37One by one, the rockpoolers got caught moving when the music stopped.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39Bertrum kept whizzing around,

0:07:39 > 0:07:43but he was really rather pleased to sneak off for a rest.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46Sidney couldn't stop spinning his shell in time

0:07:46 > 0:07:49and, when it eventually stopped,

0:07:49 > 0:07:53he disappeared inside it to get his breath back.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56Then Sally kept twirly whirling.

0:07:56 > 0:08:01And twirly whirling, Salty, is not a thing that statues do, is it?

0:08:01 > 0:08:04SALTY BARKS No, it's not.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08"That's it," said Sally, "You're the winner, Sheena.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10"I need to have a rest now."

0:08:12 > 0:08:15And Sally found herself a quiet corner

0:08:15 > 0:08:18and wriggled down into the sand.

0:08:18 > 0:08:23"I'm the winner," chortled Sheena to herself.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27But then she noticed another creature in the rockpool.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30It had long antennae, just like Sheena,

0:08:30 > 0:08:33a curvy tail, just like Sheena,

0:08:33 > 0:08:37lots of legs and swimmerets, just like Sheena.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40But it was huge!

0:08:40 > 0:08:44"Oh," said Sheena, "Hello."

0:08:44 > 0:08:48She waved a leg and the creature waved a leg too.

0:08:48 > 0:08:49It was a giant leg.

0:08:49 > 0:08:53"I didn't notice you there," Sheena told the creature.

0:08:53 > 0:08:57"Those are the longest antennae I have ever seen."

0:08:57 > 0:09:02Sheena waved her antennae and the creature waved its antennae too.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06Well, just then, the musical rock started playing music again.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09"Would you like to play musical statues?"

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Sheena shouted above the music.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14"It's easy! Just do what I do!"

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Sheena started dancing...

0:09:19 > 0:09:22..and the giant creature started dancing too.

0:09:24 > 0:09:29It was a fabulous dancer, all long limbed and leggy and wriggly jiggly.

0:09:31 > 0:09:35"Oh," said Sheena, "You are a great dancer."

0:09:35 > 0:09:39They danced and they danced and when the music stopped,

0:09:39 > 0:09:44Sheena's new friend stopped moving at exactly the same time as she did.

0:09:44 > 0:09:49"You're really good at this," Sheena chortled.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52When all the rockpoolers awoke sometime later,

0:09:52 > 0:09:55they could still hear the musical rock

0:09:55 > 0:09:59and Sheena was still playing musical statues.

0:09:59 > 0:10:03"Aren't you tired yet, Sheena?" Belinda asked.

0:10:03 > 0:10:09"Well, yes, I am," squeaked Sheena, "But I've made a giant friend

0:10:09 > 0:10:13"who is just as good at being a statue as I am."

0:10:13 > 0:10:18At that moment, the music stopped and Sheena froze

0:10:18 > 0:10:22and her giant friend stopped at exactly the same time.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25"See what I mean?" said Sheena.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28Buster, he chuckled.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31"I know why your new friend

0:10:31 > 0:10:35"is as good as you at being a statue, Sheena."

0:10:35 > 0:10:37"Why?" asked Sheena.

0:10:37 > 0:10:42"Because your new friend is your shadow and everything you do,

0:10:42 > 0:10:45"your shadow does too," Buster told her.

0:10:45 > 0:10:49"And when the sun comes out, it makes shadows, look."

0:10:49 > 0:10:52"We've all got our own shadow," said Andrew.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55Sheena looked around and it was true,

0:10:55 > 0:10:58all the rockpoolers had shadows.

0:10:58 > 0:11:03"Well, why don't we all dance with our shadows?" Sheena giggled

0:11:03 > 0:11:05as the music started again.

0:11:05 > 0:11:10So, the rockpoolers danced for the rest of the day.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15And Sheena was really very tired in the end,

0:11:15 > 0:11:17tired but happy.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23Dancing always makes you happy, doesn't it, Salty?

0:11:23 > 0:11:24SALTY BARKS

0:11:24 > 0:11:27Well, when Sue and I saw all those shadows

0:11:27 > 0:11:31dancing around in the rockpool, we wanted to dance too.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33Sue shakety shook her arms and legs

0:11:33 > 0:11:38and I held my arms high and snapped my hands as if they were claws

0:11:38 > 0:11:40while leaping from side to side

0:11:40 > 0:11:45and then I went into a giddy spin and I fell over. Ha-ha!

0:11:45 > 0:11:50Yeah, and then we danced all the way back up the beach.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54And guess who followed us? Can you guess?

0:11:54 > 0:11:59Yes, our shadows! Then we waved goodbye to the sea and the sand

0:11:59 > 0:12:01and our shadows waved too...

0:12:04 > 0:12:09..before the tide started to come in and cover over the rockpool

0:12:09 > 0:12:12like a great seaweedy blanket.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27JACK SINGS

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Ha-ha!

0:12:29 > 0:12:33So, the next time you're out and about on a sunny day,

0:12:33 > 0:12:36just remember to dance with your shadow.

0:12:36 > 0:12:38We will, won't we, Salty?

0:12:38 > 0:12:43So, why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time?

0:12:43 > 0:12:44Goodbye.

0:12:44 > 0:12:48Come on, girl! That's it! Oh, yes! On we go!
