0:00:53 > 0:00:56Oh, yeah, there it is, Salty.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Yep, oh, hello.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03I'm just looking through my telescope at the beach.

0:01:03 > 0:01:08Ernie is building a beauty of a sandcastle, over there.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Yeah! Ho-ho-ho-ho!

0:01:12 > 0:01:17And all the way round the castle is a ditch that they call the moat.

0:01:17 > 0:01:22Yes, you can fill it with water if you've got enough buckets.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Oh, that is a beauty, that is. Yeah, now then.

0:01:29 > 0:01:34I've got a story to tell you about sandcastles, moats,

0:01:34 > 0:01:38seagulls and very big adventures.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42It all happened when I was a boy

0:01:42 > 0:01:47in a twinkly time, long, long ago.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Hi, Jack.

0:01:50 > 0:01:55I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could, meeting

0:01:55 > 0:01:57up with my best friends,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05That afternoon, Sue and I were off to the rockpools when we saw Ernie.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07He was building a sand castle

0:02:07 > 0:02:12and decorating it with lots of sticks and pieces of straw that he'd found.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15"Looks great, Ernie," said Sue.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18"Watch out for those seagulls," I laughed.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21A seagull had landed near the sandcastle

0:02:21 > 0:02:25and was looking very closely at it.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29"Shoo!" shouted Ernie to the seagull, who shot up in the air.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33"They seem to like me today," he laughed.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36The seagull landed on the sand nearby.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39"Shoo!" shouted Ernie.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41The seagull flapped off.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45Bernie shook his head. "Oh, those seagulls."

0:02:45 > 0:02:50"Let's find some seaweed to decorate your sandcastle," I said.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54So, we dashed over to the rockpools in search of seaweed.

0:02:54 > 0:02:59We clambered around and then stopped beside one pool.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03We gazed deep down into the glittery waters.

0:03:04 > 0:03:10And there, a magical world appeared before our eyes.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18Sally the Starfish loved her rockpool

0:03:18 > 0:03:21and she loved playing among the seaweed stalks,

0:03:21 > 0:03:26but sometimes, she wished that she could go on an adventure.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30"What I want to do is to visit the big sandy world

0:03:30 > 0:03:34"outside the rockpool," she said to her friend, Andrew the Anemone.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Andrew was always ready for an adventure.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40Yes, just like you, Salty.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42And he was very excited.

0:03:42 > 0:03:47"Perhaps we should ask Reginald the Great Wise Limpet," he said.

0:03:47 > 0:03:48"He'll be able to help."

0:03:48 > 0:03:54So, the two friends swam up to where the water meets the sunshine and

0:03:54 > 0:04:01where Reginald sits clamped to his rock, keeping his eye on the world.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04"Oh, Great Wise Limpet," said Sally.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09"Could you tell us about the big sandy world?"

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Reginald rolled his great eyes.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17"All I know," he announced,

0:04:17 > 0:04:22"is that dogs have leads, so they don't float off,

0:04:22 > 0:04:27"and seagulls have feathers to tickle sailors at sea."

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Sally and Andrew looked at each other.

0:04:30 > 0:04:34They weren't sure how helpful this was.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37"We'd like an adventure," said Sally.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40"In the big sandy world," said Andrew.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42"But how do we get out there?"

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Reginald sighed.

0:04:45 > 0:04:50"Oh, you could climb a seaweed stalk and look around, I suppose."

0:04:52 > 0:04:56That was a good idea. "Thank you," said Sally.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58"Let's find the tallest one."

0:04:58 > 0:04:59So that's what they did.

0:04:59 > 0:05:05They found the tallest seaweed stalk and started to climb.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09It was hard at first, but starfish have strong little arms

0:05:09 > 0:05:13and Anemones are used to holding on tight.

0:05:13 > 0:05:18Very carefully, they inched out of the water and into the daylight.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22They were at the top of the stalk.

0:05:22 > 0:05:26Sally peaked around, nervously.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30She saw dogs off leads, but they weren't floating away.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34Seagulls with feathers but they weren't tickling sailors,

0:05:34 > 0:05:40and she saw sand. Sand everywhere.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43"I think this is as far as we can go," she said.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45"No," said Andrew.

0:05:45 > 0:05:50"Look, we can go even further if we climb this straw bridge."

0:05:52 > 0:05:57Sally wondered why there was a straw bridge on top of a seaweed stalk,

0:05:57 > 0:05:59but she didn't want to be left behind,

0:05:59 > 0:06:03so she followed Andrew as he climbed onto it.

0:06:03 > 0:06:08At that moment, the straw bridge rose up in the air.

0:06:08 > 0:06:09SALTY BARKS

0:06:09 > 0:06:12Yes, I know, Salty, that shouldn't happen.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16You see, it wasn't a straw bridge at all.

0:06:16 > 0:06:21It was a hat, a seagull's hat.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25This particular seagull had been admiring his reflection

0:06:25 > 0:06:31in the rockpool's glassy surface and had now decided to fly off.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33"Hold on tight!" cried Andrew.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37The two little creatures felt themselves lifted into the air

0:06:37 > 0:06:41and fly off into the cloudy blue skies.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44They were certainly having an adventure now.

0:06:44 > 0:06:49Sally gripped the edge of the straw hat tight as she saw

0:06:49 > 0:06:53the beach below look smaller and smaller.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56Andrew sat on top of the seagull's hat

0:06:56 > 0:07:01and held on as tight as an anemone can, which is very tight indeed.

0:07:01 > 0:07:05And the wind rushed past them as they swooped and dived,

0:07:05 > 0:07:09but Sally soon found herself slipping.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11She wasn't made to hold on to hats.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Her little arms were getting tired.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17"Don't worry, Sally, I'll help you," called Andrew.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20He bounced down from the top of the seagull's hat

0:07:20 > 0:07:23and landed on the brim next to Sally.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25"Oh, thank you," cried Sally.

0:07:25 > 0:07:30But Andrew, he'd landed too close to the edge - and flop,

0:07:30 > 0:07:35he tipped the hat over, sending it tumbling down and down.

0:07:35 > 0:07:41"Oh, hold on!" shouted Andrew.

0:07:41 > 0:07:46The two friends spun through the air round and round and round

0:07:46 > 0:07:52and moments later, they landed with a plump, in a great sandy desert.

0:07:52 > 0:07:53Oh!

0:07:55 > 0:07:59Sally and Andrew crept out from underneath the hat.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03"Are you all right?" Said Sally.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05"I think so," said Andrew.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07"But where are we?"

0:08:08 > 0:08:14"I think it's the big sandy world," said Sally, nervously looking around.

0:08:15 > 0:08:21They seemed to be in a long sandy ditch and above them

0:08:21 > 0:08:25was a ginormous castle, entirely made out of sand.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28SALTY BARKS Yes, I know, Salty, old girl.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32Yes, they'd landed in the moat of the sandcastle, hadn't they?

0:08:32 > 0:08:35SALTY BARKS Yes. But Sally didn't know that.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37"Andrew?" she said.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41"I'm sure I can hear rushing water."

0:08:41 > 0:08:44And sure enough, at that moment, there was

0:08:44 > 0:08:47an almighty whooshing sound.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51Andrew and Sally looked behind and there was an enormous

0:08:51 > 0:08:54wall of water rushing and tumbling towards them.

0:08:54 > 0:08:59"Whoa!" cried Sally as the little creatures were swept up

0:08:59 > 0:09:00in the rushing water.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03It sloshed them one way and then another,

0:09:03 > 0:09:07slopping them up against the sides of the moat and then down again.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11Andrew and Sally, they tumbled and turned and slithered

0:09:11 > 0:09:18and swooshed until finally, the water made a last big swish.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22And it trickled away.

0:09:22 > 0:09:28Oh! Andrew and Sally blinked at each other.

0:09:28 > 0:09:33" Quick," said Andrew. "Let's hide in there."

0:09:33 > 0:09:34They saw a big cave nearby,

0:09:34 > 0:09:38so they decided the best thing to do, was to hide in it.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41"I think I've had enough of adventures,"

0:09:41 > 0:09:44whispered Sally, when they were safe inside the cave.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47SALTY WHINES Yes, I know, Salty, old girl,

0:09:47 > 0:09:50but the adventure wasn't over yet, was it? No.

0:09:50 > 0:09:54Sally and Andrew hadn't crawled into a cave.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58They had crawled into a tin bucket.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01It belonged to Ernie.

0:10:01 > 0:10:06He'd picked it up and started to walk across the beach with it.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Inside, Andrew and Sally found themselves bouncing around.

0:10:12 > 0:10:16"Can we go home now?" cried Sally.

0:10:16 > 0:10:21"I think this is great," laughed Andrew, as he bounced around.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25At that moment, the bucket was tipped up.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30Andrew and Sally were sent twisting and turning downwards until...

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Splash.

0:10:32 > 0:10:38They landed in some warm seaweed-y water.

0:10:38 > 0:10:44They swam out and looked around, blinking in the light.

0:10:44 > 0:10:49There were the seaweed stalks, there was the rocky ridge

0:10:49 > 0:10:53and there was Reginald, the Great Wise Limpet,

0:10:53 > 0:10:55calm and still on his rock.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59They were home.

0:10:59 > 0:11:04Ernie had gone to the rockpool and had sloshed Andrew

0:11:04 > 0:11:08and Sally right back to where they started.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12"We're home!" cried a delighted Sally.

0:11:12 > 0:11:17"That was a very big adventure," Andrew laughed.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21"Right now," said Sally, firmly,

0:11:21 > 0:11:26"I just want to stay where I belong, right here in our lovely rockpool."

0:11:26 > 0:11:31So, the two little rockpoolers rushed off to

0:11:31 > 0:11:36tell their friends about their adventures in the big, sandy world.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44Ernie, Sue and I, we gathered up our seaweed and carefully

0:11:44 > 0:11:48made our way back over the rocks to the beach.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52"This will look great on your sandcastle, Ernie," said Sue.

0:11:52 > 0:11:58But when we got back onto the beach, oh, what a sight greeted us.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02Ernie's sticks and straw had been turned into a nest

0:12:02 > 0:12:05and perched on top of the nest, was the seagull.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07"That's why it was so interested

0:12:07 > 0:12:09"in what you were doing, Ernie," I laughed.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12"It thought you were building it a new home."

0:12:12 > 0:12:16So, we both helped Ernie make another sandcastle.

0:12:16 > 0:12:21But this time, decorated with seaweed, pebbles and shells.

0:12:22 > 0:12:28And then we played and played until it was time for us to go home and the

0:12:28 > 0:12:31tide came in and it covered the rockpool

0:12:31 > 0:12:34like a great seaweed-y blanket.

0:12:38 > 0:12:43MUSIC PLAYS

0:12:45 > 0:12:50Well, we're off to see if Big Ernie has finished that sandcastle yet,

0:12:50 > 0:12:52aren't we, Salty? Yeah. Ahoy.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01So why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time?

0:13:01 > 0:13:04Right? Right. Come on, girl.
