0:00:27 > 0:00:30# Stories from a magical world
0:00:30 > 0:00:32# Washed in by the sea
0:00:32 > 0:00:35# Meet the rock pool creatures there
0:00:35 > 0:00:38# It's amazing what you see
0:00:38 > 0:00:40# Looking back
0:00:40 > 0:00:42# When I was a boy
0:00:42 > 0:00:45# Shrimps and starfish Crabs and snails
0:00:45 > 0:00:47# In twinkly Rockpool Tales... #
0:00:47 > 0:00:49HE LAUGHS
0:00:49 > 0:00:52# Those lovely Rockpool Tales. #
0:00:56 > 0:00:59Oh, hello!
0:00:59 > 0:01:01I've just been doing the washing-up.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03I got covered in bubbles, I did.
0:01:03 > 0:01:07HE LAUGHS Look at you, Salty!
0:01:07 > 0:01:12You've got bubbles all over you as well. Come here. There's a girl.
0:01:12 > 0:01:16Yes, look prettier there. Smell a bit nicer as well.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19You know what?
0:01:19 > 0:01:23Looking at all these bubbles reminds me of the day
0:01:23 > 0:01:28Ernie brought some bubble mixture down to the beach.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30This is a very bubbly story, this.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34And it all happened when I was a boy.
0:01:34 > 0:01:38In a twinkly time long, long ago.
0:01:40 > 0:01:45I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could,
0:01:45 > 0:01:51meeting up with my best friends Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.
0:01:51 > 0:01:55On this particular day, Ernie and I were playing together in the sand
0:01:55 > 0:02:00and Sue was on a blanket nearby, having a little nap.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03"Oh," said Ernie.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05"I want to show her my bubbles."
0:02:05 > 0:02:11He had home-made bubble mixture and a home-made bubble stick with him.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13"Can I have a go?" I said.
0:02:13 > 0:02:18So, Ernie gave me his bubble stick and I made a few bubbles,
0:02:18 > 0:02:22which floated off towards the rock pools.
0:02:22 > 0:02:27"Come on, let's wake up Sue and we can all chase bubbles," cried Ernie.
0:02:27 > 0:02:30"No," I said. "She's fast asleep."
0:02:30 > 0:02:32And then... HE CHUCKLES
0:02:32 > 0:02:37..I blew a really enormous bubble which floated off into the sky.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40We chased the big bubble across the sand
0:02:40 > 0:02:44and then we watched it as it floated away over the rocks,
0:02:44 > 0:02:47before landing with a "bop" on a rock pool.
0:02:47 > 0:02:53We gazed deep down into the glittery waters, and there...
0:02:53 > 0:02:56A magical world appeared before our eyes.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01One bright morning,
0:03:01 > 0:03:05Bertrum the Butterfish looked out of the home
0:03:05 > 0:03:07in the rocky ridge where he lived.
0:03:07 > 0:03:11And, to his surprise, he saw bubbles.
0:03:11 > 0:03:17Great, fat, round bubbles were bobbing past in the sunlit water.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Now, you would think that Bertrum
0:03:20 > 0:03:23would be happy to see bubbles go past.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25But oh, no. No, no, he was not.
0:03:27 > 0:03:32"Bubbles," he sighed. "They just cause mess and confusion."
0:03:32 > 0:03:35And he snuck back inside his house.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38Meanwhile, quiet little Belinda the Blenny
0:03:38 > 0:03:41was singing to herself in an upturned shell
0:03:41 > 0:03:44when she spotted bubbles
0:03:44 > 0:03:48coming out of a wibbley crack in the rocks nearby.
0:03:48 > 0:03:52She thought they were the most magical things ever.
0:03:52 > 0:03:56She loved their fragile shape and the rainbow she could see inside them.
0:03:56 > 0:04:01She flitted in and out of them, careful not to touch them,
0:04:01 > 0:04:03as she didn't want to burst them.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06She was soon joined by Sally the Starfish
0:04:06 > 0:04:10and Andrew the Anemone, who both loved bubbles, too.
0:04:10 > 0:04:11HE CHUCKLES
0:04:11 > 0:04:13They chased each other in and out
0:04:13 > 0:04:16of the bubbles coming out of the wibbley crack.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18"Wheeeee!"
0:04:18 > 0:04:23But just as the fun was really starting, there was a...
0:04:23 > 0:04:24tuh!
0:04:24 > 0:04:27And one of the bubbles burst.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30Tuh! Bop. Another bubble burst.
0:04:30 > 0:04:34Bop! Another one. And bop, bop, bop, bop... Another one and another one.
0:04:34 > 0:04:39Bop, bop... And soon, all the bubbles had burst.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43"What's happened?" said Andrew.
0:04:43 > 0:04:46And then...they saw Bertrum.
0:04:46 > 0:04:50He had a piece of straw resting on a rock
0:04:50 > 0:04:56and he was blowing teeny-tiny pebbles through it to burst the bubbles.
0:04:56 > 0:04:59"Good, that's the last of them," he said.
0:04:59 > 0:05:02He then stuffed some seaweed in the wibbley crack
0:05:02 > 0:05:05to stop any more bubbles from coming out.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07"Now, perhaps, we can get back to normal.
0:05:07 > 0:05:12"Look at all the sand you've managed to whirl around chasing bubbles.
0:05:12 > 0:05:13"What a mess."
0:05:13 > 0:05:17Sally was very surprised. "Don't you like bubbles?" she asked.
0:05:17 > 0:05:19"No," said Bertrum firmly.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22"Every so often, out there in the big, wide sea,
0:05:22 > 0:05:25"a whale called Bluey blows bubbles.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29"And sometimes, those bubbles whoosh and wiggle
0:05:29 > 0:05:32"through cracks and tunnels in the rocks.
0:05:32 > 0:05:37"They bubble up into our rock pool through that wibbley crack.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40"And they discombobulate everything."
0:05:41 > 0:05:43"Discombob...?
0:05:43 > 0:05:45"What?" said Andrew.
0:05:45 > 0:05:48"They make a big mess," said Bertrum.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52"But bubbles are beautiful," cried Sally.
0:05:52 > 0:05:54"Not to me," said Bertrum,
0:05:54 > 0:05:58and he hurried off to do some more of his chores.
0:05:58 > 0:05:59HE SIGHS
0:05:59 > 0:06:03Sally was really, really sad.
0:06:03 > 0:06:06"I feel sorry for Bertrum," she said.
0:06:06 > 0:06:10"I wish he could love bubbles the way we do."
0:06:10 > 0:06:13Andrew thought about this.
0:06:13 > 0:06:15And then he had a really good idea.
0:06:15 > 0:06:17SALTY BARKS
0:06:17 > 0:06:20Yes, almost as good as one of your ideas, Salty, yes.
0:06:20 > 0:06:25"Let's make the biggest, bestest, bubbliest bubble ever.
0:06:25 > 0:06:29"Then we could show Bertrum how wonderful bubbles are."
0:06:29 > 0:06:34Well, Belinda wasn't sure, but Sally could not contain her excitement.
0:06:34 > 0:06:36"What do we do?" she asked.
0:06:36 > 0:06:38"I'll go up to the edge of the rock pool
0:06:38 > 0:06:42"and ask Reginald how we can get a message to Bluey the Whale.
0:06:42 > 0:06:46"You take that seaweed out of the wibbley crack."
0:06:46 > 0:06:48So, Belinda and Sally set to work
0:06:48 > 0:06:52and Andrew floated to the top of the rock pool.
0:06:52 > 0:06:54He popped his head above the surface,
0:06:54 > 0:06:58right next to Reginald the Great Wise Limpet.
0:06:58 > 0:07:02"O Great Wise Limpet," said Andrew.
0:07:02 > 0:07:05"How can I speak to Bluey the Whale?"
0:07:07 > 0:07:12Reginald rolled one of his big eyes and said slowly...
0:07:12 > 0:07:16"There are two ways.
0:07:16 > 0:07:21"You could make an enormous speaking tube out of hollow branches
0:07:21 > 0:07:26"held together with pieces of rope, string, old fishing nets
0:07:26 > 0:07:29"and pieces of driftwood."
0:07:29 > 0:07:33Andrew thought that this sounded a little complicated.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36"What's the other way?" he asked politely.
0:07:36 > 0:07:39"You shout," said Reginald.
0:07:39 > 0:07:43So, that's what Andrew did. He shouted.
0:07:43 > 0:07:47"Bluey! Bluey!
0:07:47 > 0:07:51"Blow us the biggest bubble you possibly can."
0:07:51 > 0:07:53HE PUFFS
0:07:53 > 0:07:58And far, far out in the big, wide sea,
0:07:58 > 0:08:01Bluey heard Andrew.
0:08:01 > 0:08:04"Coming right up," he laughed.
0:08:05 > 0:08:11And with a great, enormous puff, he blew.
0:08:11 > 0:08:15And Bluey's puff whizzed through the twisting tunnels
0:08:15 > 0:08:19and the crannies in the rocks, all the way into the rock pool.
0:08:19 > 0:08:22And right next to Sally and Belinda,
0:08:22 > 0:08:26a bubble emerged through the wibbley crack.
0:08:26 > 0:08:29It got bigger and bigger and bigger.
0:08:29 > 0:08:33It was the most beautiful bubble ever.
0:08:33 > 0:08:37"It's wonderful," smiled Sally.
0:08:37 > 0:08:43The enormous bubble bobbed and floated away towards Bertrum's home.
0:08:43 > 0:08:48Mm. Outside, Bertrum was sweeping up. Again.
0:08:48 > 0:08:52"That's a good job well done," he said.
0:08:52 > 0:08:59Mm, and just as he was saying it, the enormous bubble appeared.
0:08:59 > 0:09:06Bertrum stared at the bubble with wider and wider eyes.
0:09:06 > 0:09:08He stopped sweeping.
0:09:08 > 0:09:11He stopped everything.
0:09:11 > 0:09:15Bertrum then did an unexpected thing.
0:09:17 > 0:09:19He smiled.
0:09:19 > 0:09:25He looked up at the smooth rainbow surface of the bubble and...
0:09:25 > 0:09:27he smiled.
0:09:27 > 0:09:30"I have to say...
0:09:30 > 0:09:34"that is really a very beautiful bubble.
0:09:34 > 0:09:37"I can see myself in it."
0:09:37 > 0:09:40And sure enough, there was Bertrum's face
0:09:40 > 0:09:43stretched on the surface of the bubble like a strange mirror.
0:09:43 > 0:09:48But...as Bertrum happily admired his reflection,
0:09:48 > 0:09:52the bubble did an unexpected thing.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55It scooped up his hat.
0:09:55 > 0:09:58"My hat," squawked Bertrum.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00"The bubble's got my hat!"
0:10:00 > 0:10:06Andrew knew that Bertrum really loved that hat, so he said, reluctantly,
0:10:06 > 0:10:08"Um...
0:10:08 > 0:10:11"You'd better use your straw to pop it."
0:10:11 > 0:10:17But Bertrum didn't want to. He thought the bubble was beautiful.
0:10:17 > 0:10:19He put his straw down.
0:10:19 > 0:10:22"No, let's chase it," he said.
0:10:22 > 0:10:26"It'll pop eventually and then I'll get my hat back."
0:10:26 > 0:10:28And with a "wheeeeee",
0:10:28 > 0:10:32the little rock poolers chased after the enormous bubble
0:10:32 > 0:10:35round and round and over and over and up and down.
0:10:35 > 0:10:39Everything was discombobulated.
0:10:39 > 0:10:41But Bertrum didn't mind.
0:10:41 > 0:10:43He was having too much fun.
0:10:43 > 0:10:45HE CHUCKLES
0:10:45 > 0:10:51And, eventually, the bubble strayed too close to a sharp rock.
0:10:51 > 0:10:55And with an enormous pop,
0:10:55 > 0:10:57it burst.
0:10:57 > 0:11:02Bertrum's hat floated safely down onto his head.
0:11:03 > 0:11:08"Well," said Bertrum, "I suppose that's the end of that."
0:11:08 > 0:11:10SALTY WHINES
0:11:10 > 0:11:13He looked a little disappointed.
0:11:13 > 0:11:16Andrew looked at Sally. Sally looked at Belinda.
0:11:16 > 0:11:19And Belinda looked at Bertrum.
0:11:19 > 0:11:25"We could ask Bluey to blow us another one," said Belinda quietly.
0:11:27 > 0:11:30Bertrum looked at them and thought hard.
0:11:30 > 0:11:35Then a big smile spread across his face.
0:11:35 > 0:11:37"Let's do that.
0:11:37 > 0:11:40"I like chasing bubbles!"
0:11:40 > 0:11:43So, that's what they did.
0:11:43 > 0:11:44Bluey puffed,
0:11:44 > 0:11:47bubbles shot out of the wibbley crack,
0:11:47 > 0:11:51and the rock poolers chased bubbles for the rest of the day,
0:11:51 > 0:11:53until it was time to go to bed.
0:11:54 > 0:11:57When Ernie and I looked up from the rock pool,
0:11:57 > 0:12:02Ernie said, "I'm going to make an enormous bubble right now."
0:12:02 > 0:12:04So he did.
0:12:04 > 0:12:08Ernie's enormous bubble drifted high, high into the sky
0:12:08 > 0:12:11and then it swooped down across the beach.
0:12:11 > 0:12:17Down, down it went, until it landed right on Little Sue
0:12:17 > 0:12:18and popped.
0:12:18 > 0:12:22She sat up, blinking, looking around.
0:12:22 > 0:12:25Ernie and I both burst out laughing.
0:12:25 > 0:12:29And together, we raced over to join Sue.
0:12:29 > 0:12:35And then we played and played until it was time for us to go home.
0:12:35 > 0:12:37And the tide came in
0:12:37 > 0:12:42and covered the rock pool like a great seaweedy blanket.
0:12:42 > 0:12:44HE CHUCKLES
0:12:51 > 0:12:55I told you it was a very bubbly tale, didn't I, Salty?
0:12:55 > 0:12:59- Do you want to come and blow some bubbles with me, Salty?- Go on, then.
0:12:59 > 0:13:01That's only one, Ern!
0:13:01 > 0:13:04That's much better! I'll tell you what. Go on.
0:13:04 > 0:13:08I'll watch you from here. Go on, girl. You go with him.
0:13:08 > 0:13:12So, why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time?
0:13:12 > 0:13:13Goodbye.
0:13:15 > 0:13:17Oh, lovely, Ernie.
0:13:17 > 0:13:19I think you're getting better.
0:13:22 > 0:13:24Super!
