0:00:52 > 0:00:57Good girl. Get in your bed. Get in there. Go on.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Good girl, you sit there. Hello, how are you?

0:01:00 > 0:01:04Listen, I've just found this. Do you know what that is?

0:01:04 > 0:01:05SALTY WHINES

0:01:05 > 0:01:08I know you want to know as well, Salty, girl.

0:01:08 > 0:01:13Yes, look at that. That's a marble. Well, I never. I remember this.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15That is a very special marble.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19It was my favourite marble when I was a little boy. Isn't it lovely?

0:01:19 > 0:01:20Look. Yes.

0:01:20 > 0:01:26And I remember very well a time when Little Ernie almost won it from me.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Oh-ho-ho!

0:01:28 > 0:01:32It all happened when I was a boy,

0:01:32 > 0:01:36in a twinkly time long, long ago.

0:01:36 > 0:01:42I used to run down to the beach as often as I could,

0:01:42 > 0:01:47meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53One day, we all took our marbles down to the beach.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57You know, children loved to play marbles in those days.

0:01:57 > 0:02:02We ran down to the sand and I drew a big circle with a twig.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08I threw my favourite orange marble first, my best shooter,

0:02:08 > 0:02:12and then Sue and Ernie tried to hit it with their marbles.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Sue got quite close with her green marble

0:02:15 > 0:02:19and then Ernie threw his blue marble.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Bash!

0:02:21 > 0:02:25It hit my marble hard and then it rolled off towards the rocks.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28"I've won your marble!" Ernie cried,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30picking up my orange marble gleefully.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34Then, we all raced off after his blue one.

0:02:34 > 0:02:40It was heading for a rockpool and, uh-oh, "PFFTT." It plopped in.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters,

0:02:44 > 0:02:49a magical world appeared before our eyes.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57On this particular day, Sally the Starfish was looking

0:02:57 > 0:03:00for a safe place to store her shell collection.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04You see, she usually kept them all on the rockpool floor

0:03:04 > 0:03:08but they seemed to be getting in everybody's way.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12And just then, Belinda the Blenny swam by.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15"I think I know exactly the place to store your shells,"

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Belinda told Sally. "Follow me."

0:03:18 > 0:03:24So, Sally followed Belinda and there, amongst the wriggly seaweed,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27was a rather large and unusual

0:03:27 > 0:03:28leathery purse.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32"It must have washed into the rockpool on the last tide,"

0:03:32 > 0:03:37said Belinda. "Do you like it?" "I love it!" said Sally.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41"It's perfect for storing my shells."

0:03:41 > 0:03:44But when she looked at the purse more closely,

0:03:44 > 0:03:48she noticed a big bulge inside it.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51"I think there's already something inside," she said.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54"I wonder what it is."

0:03:54 > 0:03:58The two friends wanted to open the purse to see what was inside

0:03:58 > 0:04:01but they couldn't find a zip or a button.

0:04:01 > 0:04:06"I don't know how to open it," said Belinda,

0:04:06 > 0:04:10and just then, the purse started

0:04:10 > 0:04:13to jiggle and joggle and bop about.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16"Ooh," said Sally, giggling.

0:04:16 > 0:04:21"It looks like there's a jiggly dancer inside."

0:04:21 > 0:04:23All the rockpoolers gathered around to look

0:04:23 > 0:04:27at the mysterious jiggly purse.

0:04:27 > 0:04:32"It looks like a dancing bubble," said Bertrum the Butterfish.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Buster the Crab thought he knew what it was

0:04:35 > 0:04:38but he couldn't quite remember,

0:04:38 > 0:04:44so Sidney the Snail touched it very gently with his feelers.

0:04:44 > 0:04:48"What does it feel like?" asked Sheila the Shrimp.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52"Squidgy like jelly," said Sidney.

0:04:52 > 0:04:57"Wait!" said Buster. "I've remembered what it is.

0:04:57 > 0:05:05"It isn't a purse. It's an egg sac, with a baby creature growing inside."

0:05:05 > 0:05:09And just then something amazing happened.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13The jiggly egg sac burst open

0:05:13 > 0:05:17and out wriggled a little fish.

0:05:17 > 0:05:21"Hooray! I'm born at last!" it cried.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23SALTY BARKS Yes, Salty,

0:05:23 > 0:05:26it was very exciting indeed, and unexpected.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30"Fin-tiddly-tasmo!" muttered the little fish.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34"I've been trying to get out of there for ages."

0:05:34 > 0:05:38And then it spotted the rockpoolers.

0:05:38 > 0:05:43"Oh. Oh, hello," it said.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47"Welcome to our rockpool," said Sally.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50"What sort of creature are you?"

0:05:50 > 0:05:54The little fish swam in a circle, trying to look at its tail.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58"I don't know what creature I am. I can't see myself," it said.

0:05:58 > 0:05:59"Can you tell me?"

0:06:01 > 0:06:04Most of the rockpoolers looked puzzled,

0:06:04 > 0:06:10but Buster sidled forward. "Hm, I think I know what you are,"

0:06:10 > 0:06:14he said, his eyes spinning around on their stalks.

0:06:14 > 0:06:22"I've seen a fish like you before. You're a baby shark."

0:06:22 > 0:06:27"Oh, goody, a shark," said Sheena. "Can we call you Mark?"

0:06:27 > 0:06:30"Yes, please," said the baby shark.

0:06:30 > 0:06:34"I like the name Mark because it rhymes with shark."

0:06:34 > 0:06:39Buster looked a little bit worried. He scuttled from side to side.

0:06:39 > 0:06:44"The trouble is, a rockpool isn't big enough for a shark.

0:06:44 > 0:06:49"You are going to grow to be ever so big," he told the baby shark.

0:06:49 > 0:06:54"You need to be in the shark nursery, a special area out at sea,

0:06:54 > 0:06:58"where baby sharks live while they're growing up."

0:06:58 > 0:07:01"I'd like that," said Mark. "Can you help me get there?"

0:07:01 > 0:07:04SALTY WHIMPERS Yes, Salty.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06It wasn't going to be easy.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09The rockpoolers needed to think of a way to get Mark

0:07:09 > 0:07:12out of the rockpool and into the sea.

0:07:12 > 0:07:17"Of course we'll try to help you," said Sally,

0:07:17 > 0:07:20but she wasn't really sure what to do.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23"I know," said Sheena the Shrimp.

0:07:23 > 0:07:29"Mark could bounce out of the rockpool on my seaweed trampoline."

0:07:29 > 0:07:35"Fin-tiddly-tasmo! That sounds like fun!" cried the little shark.

0:07:35 > 0:07:40So, off they went to Sheena's seaweed trampoline.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42"Jump on," said Sheena,

0:07:42 > 0:07:45and soon Mark was bouncing.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48Little bounces at first and then bigger

0:07:48 > 0:07:50and bigger until...

0:07:50 > 0:07:52"BOING!"

0:07:52 > 0:07:56..he bounced out of the rockpool, high into the sky!

0:07:56 > 0:08:00"I can see the sea!" he cried.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02He seemed to hang in the air for a moment

0:08:02 > 0:08:05and then... "Waaaaah!"

0:08:05 > 0:08:09..he splashed back down into the rockpool.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11HE SPLASHES

0:08:11 > 0:08:14The rockpoolers needed another idea.

0:08:14 > 0:08:19Then Andrew the Anemone said, "We could use my seaweed slingshot."

0:08:19 > 0:08:22"Oh!" cried Mark.

0:08:22 > 0:08:28So Andrew fetched his slingshot and Mark fixed himself into position.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32"OK, ahem, ahem. Here goes," said Andrew,

0:08:32 > 0:08:39pulling the slingshot back and then he let go and...

0:08:39 > 0:08:41"PA-WOW!

0:08:41 > 0:08:45..off zoomed Mark, up through the water, high into the sky.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47"I can see the sea!" he cried.

0:08:47 > 0:08:52He seemed to hang in the sky for a moment and then... "Waaaaaah!"

0:08:52 > 0:08:57..he splashed back down into the rockpool again.

0:08:57 > 0:09:02"Aaah, I'll never get to the nursery now," said Mark the shark, sadly.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Then Belinda spoke up.

0:09:07 > 0:09:12"Why don't we ask Reginald what to do?" she said. "He knows everything."

0:09:12 > 0:09:16That was a brilliant idea.

0:09:16 > 0:09:20So they made their way up to where the water meets the sunshine

0:09:20 > 0:09:23and there, on his favourite rock, sat Reginald.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28"Oh, Great Wise Limpet," said Sally.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30"Could you tell us

0:09:30 > 0:09:33"how to get our new friend, Mark the baby shark,

0:09:33 > 0:09:35"back to the big white sea?"

0:09:35 > 0:09:38Reginald rolled his great eyes

0:09:38 > 0:09:40and then he spoke.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46"The sea comes in and the sea goes out.

0:09:46 > 0:09:51"It does the hokey cokey and it shakes us all about.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54"Getting to the sea is a hard thing to do

0:09:54 > 0:10:00"but when the tide turns, the sea will come to you."

0:10:00 > 0:10:05"Of course," cried Sheena. "If we wait for the tide to come in,

0:10:05 > 0:10:08Mark can swim out to sea quite easily."

0:10:08 > 0:10:10SALTY BARKS Yes, Salty,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13it was a brilliant idea, wasn't it?

0:10:13 > 0:10:16The rockpoolers thanked Reginald, then they went back

0:10:16 > 0:10:21to their rockpool floor to wait for the tide to come in.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25And while they were waiting, Sally the Starfish asked Mark

0:10:25 > 0:10:30if she could have his little leathery egg sac.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32"It would make a perfect purse

0:10:32 > 0:10:36"to store my shell collection in," she told him.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40"Of course you can. I've finished with it now," said Mark.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Everyone helped to store the shells neatly in the purse

0:10:44 > 0:10:46and when they'd finished,

0:10:46 > 0:10:50Mark nudged something blue and shiny with his nose.

0:10:50 > 0:10:55"Is this one of your shells, too?"

0:10:55 > 0:10:59"No, but it's very pretty," Sally replied.

0:10:59 > 0:11:03"It would look great in my collection."

0:11:03 > 0:11:05So in it went.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09The rockpoolers had fun playing with Mark and telling him stories

0:11:09 > 0:11:12to take to his new home in the nursery.

0:11:12 > 0:11:17We left the rockpool and made our way back up the beach.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21Ernie was a bit sad about losing his favourite marble

0:11:21 > 0:11:25but he had lots more - two pockets full, in fact,

0:11:25 > 0:11:28and he didn't mind showing them off either.

0:11:28 > 0:11:32I could see my favourite orange marble amongst them.

0:11:32 > 0:11:37"Come on, Ernie, I want to win back my shooter," I said.

0:11:37 > 0:11:42So, we played all afternoon till the waves came in

0:11:42 > 0:11:46and covered the rock pools like a great seaweedy blanket.

0:11:56 > 0:12:01So, Salty, that was the day I lost my favourite orange shooter.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Ha-ha! But I won it back later.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07- Hi, Ernie.- Oh, hello, Jack!

0:12:07 > 0:12:10Ohhh. Yeah, I've got something to show you.

0:12:10 > 0:12:15Look at that. That's my favourite shooter, that is. Do you know what?

0:12:15 > 0:12:21- A long time ago, your grandfather won it off me but I won it back.- Really?

0:12:21 > 0:12:24- Yeah.- It must be very precious. - Oh, it is, yeah.

0:12:24 > 0:12:30- Too precious for a game, I expect? - Well...- It just so happens...

0:12:30 > 0:12:33- Ernie!- Do you fancy a game?

0:12:33 > 0:12:38I never say no to a game of marbles, Ernie, especially with you.

0:12:38 > 0:12:43So, why don't you join us again for some more Rockpool Tales next time?

0:12:43 > 0:12:45Goodbye.

0:12:45 > 0:12:46Come on then, Ernie.
