0:01:39 > 0:01:40Hello, Emily!

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Oh, hello, Jack, dear! How are you?

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Oh, tiptop, tiptop! We're just on our way to the Rainbow.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49To check the nets. What are you up to?

0:01:49 > 0:01:53- Oh, I'm hoping for a rainbow today too.- Really?

0:01:53 > 0:01:55The paper said there might be one.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59I'd like to try and get a photograph of it for my granddaughter.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Of course, you need sunshine and showers for a rainbow.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Oh, I know. It's a tricky combination.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08But I'm hoping the seagulls can tell me

0:02:08 > 0:02:10what the weather will be like.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12- Seagulls.- Come on!- Oh, yes.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Seagulls, seagulls, Salty. Remember that, seagulls.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22The seagulls always predict the weather for me.

0:02:22 > 0:02:28- If a seagull is carrying a flower, you know it's going to shower.- Oh!

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Oh! There you go! Showers!

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Oh, well, I never!

0:02:34 > 0:02:38- Now, how about some sunshine?- Yeah.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41- Anything yet, Em?- Oh!

0:02:41 > 0:02:46- When seagulls dance for money, the weather might be sunny.- Oh, yeah.

0:02:46 > 0:02:51Oh! There! Sunshine as well!

0:02:51 > 0:02:53- That's amazing!- Isn't it?!

0:02:53 > 0:02:57Sunshine and showers! I think we're going to see that rainbow, Jack!

0:02:57 > 0:03:02- Come on!- She's in a bit of a hurry, isn't she, Salty? Wait for us!

0:03:04 > 0:03:08- I'll just wait here for the rainbow. - Yeah.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Are you sure the seagulls can help you forecast the weather?

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Yes, every time. Don't you worry about me, Old Jack.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Oh, all right, then. Well, as I said,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20I better get off and have a look at those nets.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24- Good luck with your rainbow watch. - Thanks! See you later!

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Oh!

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Seagulls...

0:03:41 > 0:03:43There she is - the Rainbow.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46What have you got for us today, my dear?

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Woo woo!

0:03:48 > 0:03:49He-he!

0:03:49 > 0:03:53Come on, Salty! Deeree-deeree...

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Here we are.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05There you go, in your bed. Good girl, sit.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07I've got to sort out some of these nets.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11And I don't want you distracting me. Oh, look at that.

0:04:11 > 0:04:17You know, I really hope that Emily gets to see a rainbow today.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Magical things, rainbows, Salty.

0:04:19 > 0:04:24You know, there's tales of pots of gold to be found at the end of them.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26Ha-ha! Wait a minute, didn't we...?

0:04:26 > 0:04:31Didn't we go chasing after a pot of gold once, Salty? Yes.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35Let me get comfortable, I'll see if I can remember.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37Ooh! Oh, yes, Salty.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41Yes, yes. Ha-ha! There you are, good girl. Yes.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44This one will make your ears stand on end. Ha-ha!

0:04:44 > 0:04:49Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:49 > 0:04:50waved goodbye to Whitby

0:04:50 > 0:04:53and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57There was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Ha-ha!

0:04:57 > 0:05:01"This calls for a singsong!", I cried.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04# Just Salty Dog and me

0:05:04 > 0:05:06# Upon the rainy sea

0:05:06 > 0:05:08# The clouds are grey And the sky is blue

0:05:08 > 0:05:11# The sun is out But it's raining too

0:05:11 > 0:05:15# And a rainbow is shining It's marvellous timing

0:05:15 > 0:05:17# For Salty Dog and me. Whoo! #

0:05:17 > 0:05:19Ha-ha-ha!

0:05:19 > 0:05:23We were just admiring the rainbow's beautiful colours

0:05:23 > 0:05:27when Salty spotted a small dot in the distance.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31I grabbed my trusty telescope to take a closer look

0:05:31 > 0:05:35and, through the telescope's eye, I saw a small hairy man,

0:05:35 > 0:05:38all dressed in green,

0:05:38 > 0:05:40who was clinging to a huge leaf,

0:05:40 > 0:05:44which seemed to be sinking in the choppy waves.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47"It's a leprechaun, Salty!" I cried,

0:05:47 > 0:05:49"And he needs our help!"

0:05:49 > 0:05:53Just in case you've never met a leprechaun,

0:05:53 > 0:05:56it's a small, mischievous, elf-like creature

0:05:56 > 0:05:59who is said to come from the Emerald Isle.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03"Ahoy, seafarer!" we cried, "Come aboard!"

0:06:03 > 0:06:06And the leprechaun scrambled up on deck

0:06:06 > 0:06:10just moments before his leaf sank in the waves.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" said the leprechaun.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15"I was off to find the pot of gold

0:06:15 > 0:06:18"at the end of that rainbow, you see. Diddily-dee.

0:06:18 > 0:06:23"But now, me leaf is sunk and I can't go. Oh, diddily-do!"

0:06:23 > 0:06:27"We'll take you to the end of the rainbow to find your gold,"

0:06:27 > 0:06:30I told the leprechaun, "It'll be an adventure!"

0:06:30 > 0:06:34So we set course for the end of the rainbow.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37The waves were choppy and the wind blew us along

0:06:37 > 0:06:41and the rainbow arched out into the distance.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45And then, suddenly, the wind grew wild. Ooh!

0:06:45 > 0:06:47It whipped up the waves into huge hills

0:06:47 > 0:06:50and it blew our supply of cheese sandwiches

0:06:50 > 0:06:53and dog biscuits overboard!

0:06:53 > 0:06:57"Oh! I wish this wind would stop!" I shouted.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish,"

0:07:00 > 0:07:02said the leprechaun.

0:07:02 > 0:07:04And he did a little dance.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:07:07 > 0:07:13And sure enough, the wind stopped and the sea became calm.

0:07:13 > 0:07:17"I forgot that leprechauns could grant wishes," I said happily.

0:07:17 > 0:07:18"Thank you!"

0:07:18 > 0:07:22And on we went, towards the end of the rainbow.

0:07:22 > 0:07:26Suddenly, we found ourselves under an inky cloud

0:07:26 > 0:07:29and before you could say wrinkly whelks and winkles,

0:07:29 > 0:07:32it showered us with cold rain.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36"I wish this showery weather would stop," howled Salty.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said.

0:07:40 > 0:07:41And he did a little dance.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47And sure enough, the rain stopped.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51The sun shone and the sky became totally blue.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53"Fantastic!" I cried.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56But then, looking into the distance,

0:07:56 > 0:07:59I noticed the rainbow had disappeared.

0:07:59 > 0:08:04"Without the showery weather, we don't have a rainbow," I groaned.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08But the leprechaun wasn't listening, he was too busy dancing.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14I don't mind telling you this clickety-clackety

0:08:14 > 0:08:16was giving me a headache!

0:08:16 > 0:08:18"Stop!", I cried.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23A-clickety-clackety. "Stop!"

0:08:25 > 0:08:27Phew! My wish had come true.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29He had stopped,

0:08:29 > 0:08:31but so had everything else,

0:08:31 > 0:08:34including the Rainbow's engine.

0:08:34 > 0:08:35We were stuck.

0:08:35 > 0:08:40Salty thought it would solve a lot of problems if we just wished

0:08:40 > 0:08:42to be at the end of the rainbow,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44which sounded like an excellent idea.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47"It's too late for that now," said the leprechaun.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51"I'm too hungry to grant any more wishes today."

0:08:51 > 0:08:57Well, we didn't know how we would get to the end of the rainbow.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58But, suddenly, ha!

0:08:58 > 0:09:03Salty spotted a huge fin, poking up out of the water. Ha-ha!

0:09:03 > 0:09:07It belonged to Donnie, our favourite dolphin taxi.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10He roared up beside the boat.

0:09:10 > 0:09:11"Help!" we cried,

0:09:11 > 0:09:15"We're stuck and we need to find the end of the rainbow!"

0:09:15 > 0:09:17"Oh, man," said the dolphin,

0:09:17 > 0:09:21"Your rainbow is probably gone after the sea of showers.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25"Throw a rope around my tail and we'll go find it."

0:09:25 > 0:09:29Once we had dolphin power, we were never so fast!

0:09:29 > 0:09:32"Watch out!" called Donnie when we reached the sea of showers,

0:09:32 > 0:09:36"We get all sorts of unusual showers here."

0:09:36 > 0:09:41But it was true, because suddenly, there was a shower of stars

0:09:41 > 0:09:44that danced around us like fireworks,

0:09:44 > 0:09:46but there was no sign of our rainbow.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50Next came a shower of roses! Oh!

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Which smelt lovely,

0:09:52 > 0:09:57but felt a bit prickly and still there was no sign of our rainbow.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01Well, finally, grey clouds gathered across the sky,

0:10:01 > 0:10:05bumped into each other and started to shower rain.

0:10:05 > 0:10:09Then, the sun shone through the rain and whoo-he-he!

0:10:09 > 0:10:14Our rainbow suddenly burst across the sky.

0:10:14 > 0:10:19"The rainbow ends just here, under the sea," said Donnie.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21"Well, we better take a look," I said.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25And before you could say spindly spider crabs,

0:10:25 > 0:10:28we were strolling on the seabed.

0:10:28 > 0:10:33And there, just in front of us, amongst the thick seaweed,

0:10:33 > 0:10:34was the rainbow's end.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38And there, behind a rock, was a shiny pot.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42"Ooooh! It's me pot of gold!" said the leprechaun

0:10:42 > 0:10:44and he lifted the lid.

0:10:44 > 0:10:51Well, you've never seen so many dazzly, shimmering discs.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53"Gold!" cried the leprechaun.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56"Jiggly jubilations!"

0:10:56 > 0:11:00And, of course, he danced. A-clickety-clackety...

0:11:00 > 0:11:05"These... These are even better than gold coins," I said.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09"They're golden chocolate coins."

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Well, Salty, she sniffed them excitedly.

0:11:12 > 0:11:17"And golden doggie snacks too," she woofed.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20The leprechaun stopped dancing.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23"Miserly miserations!" he moaned.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26"I wanted real gold!"

0:11:26 > 0:11:29And just then, we heard a growl.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33It was the sound of the leprechaun's tummy rumbling.

0:11:33 > 0:11:38"But I am a little bit peckish, to be sure," he chortled.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42"Well, why don't you share them?" said Salty, licking her lips.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44"That will make everyone happy."

0:11:44 > 0:11:47"Oh, that's a brilliant idea, so it is,"

0:11:47 > 0:11:49said the leprechaun.

0:11:49 > 0:11:54So we all had a wonderful feast and you know what,

0:11:54 > 0:12:01as the leprechaun was feeling full again, all his magic came back.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05I wished for our lovely boat to appear in the sea above us

0:12:05 > 0:12:08and, once we were all gathered on board,

0:12:08 > 0:12:12we sailed on the Rainbow

0:12:12 > 0:12:16all the way back to Staithes and home.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19And those chocolates, oh! They were lovely!

0:12:26 > 0:12:29You know that story, Salty? Yeah?

0:12:29 > 0:12:31All true, of course.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Mind you, my stories always are! Ha-ha!

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Come on, girl.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55Hello, Emily! Any news with your rainbow spotting?

0:12:55 > 0:12:57Nothing all day!

0:12:57 > 0:12:59- Oh!- I'm so disappointed.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02What am I going to tell my granddaughter?

0:13:02 > 0:13:06I promised her a picture of a rainbow over Staithes.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09Rainbows can be very fussy things, you know.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Has anybody been looking after you?

0:13:11 > 0:13:15- Oh, yes. Shelly's been bringing me cups of tea.- Oh, that's good.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Oh!

0:13:27 > 0:13:31Well, Emily, you were right after all!

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Ha-ha-ha!

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Oh, look at that!

0:13:35 > 0:13:38Isn't it magical?

0:13:39 > 0:13:43Oh, that's made my day!

0:13:43 > 0:13:48Come on, Salty! Let's leave Emily to enjoy her rainbow. Bye-bye!

0:13:48 > 0:13:50- Bye, Jack!- Ha-ha-ha!
