0:01:39 > 0:01:41There we go, Salty.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46- Oh, don't sit there.- What? Haha!

0:01:46 > 0:01:49My ray of sunshine, what's the matter?

0:01:49 > 0:01:54- Sorry, this chair is broken. I was waiting for Sam to fix it.- Oh, I see.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58- Have this chair.- I could have came a cropper there, couldn't I, Salty?

0:01:58 > 0:02:02- How's my favourite fisherman?- All the better for seeing you, my dear.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05This calls for my reading glasses, doesn't it?

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Hello to you too, Salty, my lovely!

0:02:08 > 0:02:10She's always pleased to see you.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Doesn't do that for everybody.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15You're both my special friends.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19- So what can I get for you today?- I know. A cake. A lemon twinkle cake.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23- The one with the sugary stars. My favourites!- Ooh, Jack.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26I've run out of lemon twinkles. I'm sorry.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30- Never mind. I'll have a cup of tea. - I'll fetch it straightaway.

0:02:30 > 0:02:35- With perhaps a little dog biscuit on the side?- Wooh! Wooh! Wooh!

0:02:36 > 0:02:38- Jack!- Hello.- Hello, Salty.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Are you stopping?

0:02:40 > 0:02:45- Well, I was looking for you. - Why, what's the matter?- Here.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47That's a light bulb.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49For your ship's lamp. It wasn't working yesterday.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Yes. The bulb's blown.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54We can't have you setting off without your lamp.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Thank you. I'll fit it, as soon as I've had my tea.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00- Always glad to help. Now, if you need me to...- Oh, Ernie!

0:03:03 > 0:03:06- That chair is broken.- So I see.

0:03:06 > 0:03:11- Perhaps I'll pop it over to Sam. - You'll need that bit as well.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15- Aye. Cheerio, Jack.- Yes.- Ooh!

0:03:15 > 0:03:17There you go. A nice cup of tea,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20one sugar, just the way you like it,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23- and a dog biscuit on the side. - Thank you.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27And Salty says thank you as well. Don't you? Here you are.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Oh, I found some lemon twinkles. Pop by later and I'll have a cake.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34You are always looking out for me, Shelly.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37I'll drink this, and then I'll be off to the Rainbow. Thank you.

0:03:48 > 0:03:53There she is, the Rainbow. What have you got for us today, my dear?

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Heh-hey! Come along, Salty.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01HE HUMS

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Good girl. In your bed. Good girl. Go on, Salty.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18Now, then, let's see if I can fit

0:04:18 > 0:04:21this fiddly little lamp bulb in here.

0:04:21 > 0:04:27I'm going to need my reading glasses for this. Now, where did I put them?

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Eh? Have you seen them, Salty?

0:04:29 > 0:04:33I'm going to have to look after my glasses better than this.

0:04:33 > 0:04:38Do you remember when we got this lamp?

0:04:38 > 0:04:42It was after that really stormy voyage we had.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46Let me think... Yeah.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Once upon a twinkly time,

0:04:48 > 0:04:51the Rainbow set out from Staithes,

0:04:51 > 0:04:55waved goodbye to Whitby, and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00It was a bit of an overcast sort of a day,

0:05:00 > 0:05:03and as we sailed along, we sang.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06# Just Salty dog and me

0:05:06 > 0:05:08# Sailing away on the sea

0:05:08 > 0:05:11# We're going to have a lovely day

0:05:11 > 0:05:14# Even though the sky is grey

0:05:14 > 0:05:18# We'll sing and we'll smile for a nautical mile

0:05:18 > 0:05:21# Just Salty dog and me. #

0:05:21 > 0:05:27Yeah, well, we'd sailed happily for many hours, until the wind

0:05:27 > 0:05:33suddenly turned, and we ran into a storm to shake you to your cockles.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37Salty here has never been one for thunderstorms, have you?

0:05:37 > 0:05:39No, no - doesn't like 'em.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43And this storm was not one for the fainthearted.

0:05:43 > 0:05:48The skies darkened, the wind was northerly, blowing fit to bust,

0:05:48 > 0:05:53whipping the waves into tall towers as big as a man.

0:05:53 > 0:05:57As big as a bus! Waves that were as big as a house!

0:05:57 > 0:05:58And poor Rainbow...

0:05:58 > 0:06:00didn't know what had hit her.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03One moment, perching high on the crest,

0:06:03 > 0:06:07and then plummeting down like a rollercoaster.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11Up and down, we hurtled, crashing through the foam.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Of course, Salty wanted us to head back to harbour.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17In fact, she hates storms so much,

0:06:17 > 0:06:21she suggested selling the Rainbow,

0:06:21 > 0:06:25and using the money to buy a dog biscuit factory.

0:06:25 > 0:06:30But just as poor Salty was thinking that she'd never see land again,

0:06:30 > 0:06:35through the raging waves, we heard the most beautiful sound.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38WOMAN SINGS

0:06:38 > 0:06:43Clear and gentle, it just cut through the storm.

0:06:43 > 0:06:49Yes, it was the song of our mermaid friend, Pearl,

0:06:49 > 0:06:55perched at the very tip of a wave. "Yoo-hoo!" called the mermaid.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59And with a flip of her fabulous tail, Pearl dived through

0:06:59 > 0:07:03the tower of water and popped up in front of the Rainbow.

0:07:03 > 0:07:10Just like that. "Don't worry, Jack," she called, "I'll get you home!

0:07:10 > 0:07:13"I have the perfect solution."

0:07:13 > 0:07:19From deep in the ocean, Pearl summoned her friend, Angela,

0:07:19 > 0:07:24the angler fish. She was beautifully spoken and really quite shy.

0:07:24 > 0:07:30"Me," she gasped, "you want me to help? How thrilling!

0:07:30 > 0:07:33"Nobody's ever asked me to help before, ever."

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Which is quite surprising, really, as angler fish

0:07:36 > 0:07:41have a built-in head lantern, which must come in very useful

0:07:41 > 0:07:44in the dark depths of the sea.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Pearl asked Angela if we might use

0:07:46 > 0:07:48her lantern to light our way across

0:07:48 > 0:07:53the ocean, and the kind angler fish was only too happy to oblige.

0:07:53 > 0:07:58So, with Angela and her lantern swimming ahead of the Rainbow

0:07:58 > 0:08:02with Pearl, they were able to lead us through the dark waves.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06We were sailing along quite well now, considering the storm,

0:08:06 > 0:08:11when all at once, there was the most almighty crack of lightning.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13Pearl and Angela dived below,

0:08:13 > 0:08:17while Salty and I, we were thrown off our feet.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20We lay quivering on the deck, didn't we, girl?

0:08:20 > 0:08:22Then we heard a creak...

0:08:22 > 0:08:23and a groan...

0:08:23 > 0:08:25and a crash!

0:08:25 > 0:08:27And when we looked up,

0:08:27 > 0:08:30the Rainbow's mast had broken in two,

0:08:30 > 0:08:34and on top of that, the lightning had bust our boiler.

0:08:36 > 0:08:43Now the engine was no good at all. How were we going to sail home?

0:08:43 > 0:08:48I looked for Pearl, but she was lost in the salty spray.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52We were alone, stuck in the middle of a raging ocean,

0:08:52 > 0:08:56with a broken mast and a busted engine.

0:08:56 > 0:09:01And if that wasn't enough, the Rainbow gave a sudden lurch,

0:09:01 > 0:09:05as if we'd hit land, but there was no land to be seen.

0:09:05 > 0:09:10I rushed over to look over the side, and blow my britches,

0:09:10 > 0:09:13the boat gave another lurch.

0:09:13 > 0:09:19And then slowly, slowly, we began to rise, upwards and upwards,

0:09:19 > 0:09:23until the Rainbow was high above the waves.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25What was going on?

0:09:25 > 0:09:27Then we heard Pearl's voice,

0:09:27 > 0:09:31calling us from down below in the sea.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36"Hold on tight, Jack and Salty! You are going for a ride."

0:09:36 > 0:09:39A ride?

0:09:39 > 0:09:45"Welcome aboard," announced a big, rumbly voice.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Our friend...

0:09:47 > 0:09:53Bluey, the blue whale, had come to our rescue, again. Ha!

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Bluey swam up beneath the Rainbow and lifted us

0:09:57 > 0:10:00high into the air on his back.

0:10:00 > 0:10:04We were hitching a ride on the back of a whale!

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Just imagine the procession

0:10:06 > 0:10:10that crossed the stormy ocean that day.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14By teatime, we were reaching land.

0:10:14 > 0:10:19You can imagine how pleased Salty was to see Staithes in the distance.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23Bluey the whale - he began to slow down as we drew near.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26He explained that he couldn't go any closer to the land,

0:10:26 > 0:10:30or he would get stuck on the sandbanks.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Now, it was time for one final surprise.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39"Hold onto your hats," chuckled the whale.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43As Salty was trying to explain that she doesn't wear a hat,

0:10:43 > 0:10:48Bluey took in a massive suck of water,

0:10:48 > 0:10:53and then he spurted a huge fountain out of his blowhole.

0:10:53 > 0:10:55And the Rainbow, with us in it,

0:10:55 > 0:10:58flew high into the air on the spout of water,

0:10:58 > 0:11:02so high that we took off, we turned a somersault,

0:11:02 > 0:11:04and came neatly to land

0:11:04 > 0:11:06just beside the harbour wall.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08And as he set out to sea,

0:11:08 > 0:11:13Bluey let out another fountain of water, by way of goodbye.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16Ho-ho! Bye-bye!

0:11:16 > 0:11:18And as we squinted into the sunset,

0:11:18 > 0:11:22we just caught a flash of Angela's lantern,

0:11:22 > 0:11:26and a glimpse of Pearl's tail, as they disappeared

0:11:26 > 0:11:28into the wide ocean.

0:11:28 > 0:11:34Salty and I heaved a huge sigh of relief.

0:11:34 > 0:11:36We were home again.

0:11:39 > 0:11:40TOOT!

0:11:43 > 0:11:48You like that story, Salty? All true, of course.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52Mind you, my stories always are. Ha-ha!

0:11:52 > 0:11:56Oh, look!

0:11:56 > 0:11:58Come on.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10You know, Salty, we never did find

0:12:10 > 0:12:12those reading glasses, did we?

0:12:12 > 0:12:17- You haven't eaten them, have you? Ha-ha!- Ah, back again, Jack?

0:12:17 > 0:12:22Hey, you can have the honour of testing out the fixed chair.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25You quite sure it's not going to break again?

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Huh...

0:12:30 > 0:12:34Oh, very good, yeah. Well done, Ernie.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37Only glad to help. Hey, did you get your ship's lamp fixed?

0:12:37 > 0:12:41- No. I seem to have mislaid my glasses.- Oh, well.

0:12:41 > 0:12:46- I'll keep my eye out for them. See you later, Jack.- Bye for now.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48Go and sit. Sit down. Go on.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51- Ah!- One lemon twinkle cake,

0:12:51 > 0:12:55- with extra stars, for my favourite customer.- Oh, Shelly Periwinkle!

0:12:55 > 0:12:58- You are the light of my life. - SALTY WHINES

0:12:58 > 0:13:01Yes, and you, of course. Sit down.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05What more can a man ask for than a kind friend, a faithful dog,

0:13:05 > 0:13:07and a lemon twinkle cake?

0:13:07 > 0:13:12- Yeah. Except perhaps... - Your glasses?

0:13:12 > 0:13:16- My glasses!- You left them here earlier.- Oh, Shelly!

0:13:16 > 0:13:19I mean, what would I do without you, eh?

0:13:19 > 0:13:22D'you know, it's almost as if you were magic.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24Oh! Oh, Jack!

0:13:24 > 0:13:28You and your imagination! JACK LAUGHS

0:13:30 > 0:13:32Look at that little cakey.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36Beautiful. Ha-ha!

0:13:45 > 0:13:48Well, Salty, that's it for today.

0:13:48 > 0:13:50We'll see all our friends again next time.

0:13:50 > 0:13:56Oh! And we'll see YOU next time, as well. Bye-bye.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58Come on, girl.
