0:02:11 > 0:02:15Oh, that fish looks a little lonely. We need more.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Perhaps a little magic will help.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Here we are, Shelly, how are you going?

0:02:19 > 0:02:23Oh, Jack. You surprised me! Hello. Hello, Salty.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Get down, that's it. Is that the cake you've made for Ernie?

0:02:26 > 0:02:29It is, I was thinking it needs a few more fish.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Yes, it could do, he'd like that.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33Is he around?

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Ha-ha-ha! Dog biscuits!

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Huh?

0:03:41 > 0:03:47There she is, The Rainbow. What have you got for us today, my dear?

0:03:47 > 0:03:48TOOT! TOOT!

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Hey-hey. Come on, Salty.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54# Dee-dee-dee-dee. #

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Here we are.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Into your bed, good girl, go on, that's it.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10Do you know, I do like a birthday surprise.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Do you remember,

0:04:12 > 0:04:16when we got a surprise gift for Shelly's birthday?

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Right, ooh, I'll just get comfortable,

0:04:19 > 0:04:21and I'll remind you...

0:04:21 > 0:04:25Once upon a twinkly time, The Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:25 > 0:04:29waved goodbye to Whitby, and disappeared over the horizon,

0:04:29 > 0:04:32heading for a faraway port.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35# Just Salty Dog and me

0:04:35 > 0:04:37# Sail away across the sea

0:04:37 > 0:04:38# In search of a merchant

0:04:38 > 0:04:40# Who sells lovely things

0:04:40 > 0:04:43# Pretty and magical Shelly-type things

0:04:43 > 0:04:45# A gift in the end

0:04:45 > 0:04:46# For our beautiful friend

0:04:46 > 0:04:50# Just Salty Dog and me. #

0:04:50 > 0:04:52Oh, it was a long journey.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55And when we finally arrived, we moored The Rainbow in

0:04:55 > 0:04:59a harbour which had tall towers

0:04:59 > 0:05:03and domes shaped like onions.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06We were met by a merchant who gave a bow and said,

0:05:06 > 0:05:09"Greetings, travellers from afar.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12"I welcome you to my bazaar."

0:05:12 > 0:05:16Well, her bazaar turned out to be a kind of market shop,

0:05:16 > 0:05:21stocked with all manner of amazing things we had never seen before.

0:05:21 > 0:05:26And then we spotted a rather tatty but beautiful old carpet.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31It was warm and had lovely sniffy old smells that Salty loved.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35"A fine choice your doggy friend has made," said the merchant,

0:05:35 > 0:05:39"for that carpet is a magic carpet."

0:05:39 > 0:05:44I was astounded and Salty's whiskers whiffled in the air!

0:05:44 > 0:05:46A magic carpet!

0:05:46 > 0:05:48We could take it home to Shelly.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50The merchant took me to one side

0:05:50 > 0:05:55and explained there were magical words you had to say to fly it.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57The magical words were,

0:05:57 > 0:06:00"Widdly-diddly-dee."

0:06:00 > 0:06:04Salty and I were very eager to get this wonderful carpet home,

0:06:04 > 0:06:06so we paid the merchant and we dashed off.

0:06:06 > 0:06:10We hurried back through the narrow streets to The Rainbow,

0:06:10 > 0:06:12but as we turned the corner,

0:06:12 > 0:06:16a terrible shock awaited us in the harbour.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19The Rainbow had gone.

0:06:19 > 0:06:23"Maybe The Rainbow had sailed home without us," I thought.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Sometimes The Rainbow does that.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29What we didn't know, was that the rascally pirate,

0:06:29 > 0:06:34Kitty Cutlass, had followed us all the way to the faraway port

0:06:34 > 0:06:38and whilst we were in the bazaar she had gone and taken our boat,

0:06:38 > 0:06:43leaving us there on the harbour with nothing but a carpet.

0:06:43 > 0:06:48"Still," said Salty, "it is a magic carpet, perhaps we can fly it home

0:06:48 > 0:06:52"and we'll find The Rainbow on the way."

0:06:52 > 0:06:57It sounded worth a try, so we started saying the magic words,

0:06:57 > 0:06:59"Widdly-diddly-dee."

0:07:01 > 0:07:03But nothing happened.

0:07:03 > 0:07:04We tried again.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07"WIDDLY-DIDDLY-DEE," we said.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09But still, nothing.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12That merchant must have tricked us.

0:07:12 > 0:07:17Now we were in a pickle.

0:07:17 > 0:07:21Just then, a chance wind suddenly whipped the carpet into the air,

0:07:21 > 0:07:24and sent it skimming into the water.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28Well, Salty, she wasn't going to let Shelly's carpet get away

0:07:28 > 0:07:32without a fight, and to my amazement she leapt into the sea after it,

0:07:32 > 0:07:37and they both disappeared under the waves. Disaster!

0:07:37 > 0:07:41Now I had lost The Rainbow, the carpet and Salty.

0:07:41 > 0:07:42But not for long -

0:07:42 > 0:07:45suddenly, with an enormous splash,

0:07:45 > 0:07:49there she was, skimming across the waves towards me,

0:07:49 > 0:07:54sitting proudly on the carpet, I could hardly believe my eyes.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57It was a magic carpet after all,

0:07:57 > 0:08:00but not the flying-in-the-air sort,

0:08:00 > 0:08:04no, no, this was a magic sea carpet.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07They like to fly under the water,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09that's why you don't see them very often.

0:08:09 > 0:08:13And with a magic sea carpet to transport us we might be able to get

0:08:13 > 0:08:18home in time for Shelly's birthday and find the missing Rainbow.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22I jumped onto the carpet next to Salty.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24"Hold on tight," I shouted.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27And down under the water we flew.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29Fish stared open-mouthed

0:08:29 > 0:08:33as they saw us speed by on our magic sea carpet.

0:08:33 > 0:08:37I don't think they'd ever seen one before - a seahorse waved to us,

0:08:37 > 0:08:39wanting to hitch a lift.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42"Could you give me a ride to the sand bank, please?" he called.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46We didn't see why not, it was on the way,

0:08:46 > 0:08:48so we picked him up and we sped off.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51From our sea carpet we spotted

0:08:51 > 0:08:55Mr and Mrs Cod and their two tiddlers dragging home the shopping.

0:08:55 > 0:08:59"Do you want a lift home, Mrs Cod, with your shopping?

0:08:59 > 0:09:02"We could drop you off, it's on our way."

0:09:02 > 0:09:06"Well, we don't usually ask for lifts, it's up to Harold," she said.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08Well, Mr Cod had a brief think about this,

0:09:08 > 0:09:12but before he had a chance to say anything, Mrs Cod announced,

0:09:12 > 0:09:14"Harold says yes."

0:09:14 > 0:09:16"Right, dear," said Harold.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18And they all climbed aboard.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21It was crowded on the carpet with Seahorse,

0:09:21 > 0:09:25Mr and Mrs Cod and two tiddlers together with Salty and me,

0:09:25 > 0:09:29and the weight, the weight was slowing the carpet down.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32At this rate we'd never get back to Staithes.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36And then something terrible happened.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39"Watch out..." Mr Cod suddenly shouted in alarm.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42"..fishing net!"

0:09:42 > 0:09:45With a whoosh, the fish all scarpered quickly,

0:09:45 > 0:09:49as a large net swept towards us.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52Who did the net belong to?

0:09:52 > 0:09:57Well, I'll tell you. Kitty Cutlass was on board our ship, The Rainbow.

0:09:57 > 0:10:02"I've already made a catch and it feels like something big,"

0:10:02 > 0:10:04she laughed.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07So, imagine her surprise when what

0:10:07 > 0:10:13she fished out of the net was Salty and me and a soggy carpet.

0:10:13 > 0:10:18And imagine my surprise to find I was back aboard The Rainbow.

0:10:18 > 0:10:23"Ah, but she's my boat now," Kitty smirked.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Oh, that got me ruffled, I can tell you, and Salty's whiskers,

0:10:27 > 0:10:30they began to whiffle at an alarming rate.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33But then I had an idea.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36"I'll offer you a swap, Kitty.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38"You give us The Rainbow back,

0:10:38 > 0:10:43"and we'll give you this magic carpet," I suggested.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Salty, she was horrified.

0:10:46 > 0:10:51We were giving Shelly's gift away, and to Kitty Cutlass, of all people.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55Well, of course, the greedy pirate couldn't resist, could she?

0:10:55 > 0:11:00"Hmmm, a magic carpet! That's got to be better than a silly old boat."

0:11:00 > 0:11:03So, we swapped.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05We got our beloved Rainbow back,

0:11:05 > 0:11:09and Kitty Cutlass took the magic carpet onto her boat

0:11:09 > 0:11:13and immediately sat on it, waiting for it to fly.

0:11:13 > 0:11:14But nothing happened.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17Well, of course it didn't.

0:11:17 > 0:11:22What Kitty didn't know, it was a magic sea carpet, and anyway,

0:11:22 > 0:11:25she didn't know the magical words, either.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29"Stupid carpet," she said, crossly.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33And she threw it over the side, as I always knew she would.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36And then she sailed off in a grump.

0:11:37 > 0:11:43Salty and I fished the carpet out of the water and hung it out to dry.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46By the time we got back to Staithes it was dry

0:11:46 > 0:11:49and in perfect condition to give to Shelly.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52And do you know what Shelly did with it?

0:11:52 > 0:11:59She put it down outside her cafe as a special place for Salty to

0:11:59 > 0:12:04curl up contentedly and enjoy its sniffy old smells.

0:12:04 > 0:12:08Hee-hee-hee. Wasn't that nice of her?

0:12:08 > 0:12:10TOOT! TOOT!

0:12:15 > 0:12:17Did you like that story, Salty?

0:12:17 > 0:12:19All true, of course.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22Mind you, my stories always are! Ho-ho-ho!

0:12:37 > 0:12:41Well, Ernie, you ready for your birthday surprise?

0:12:41 > 0:12:43It'll be more of a surprise for Shelly.

0:12:43 > 0:12:45- Eh?- Look.

0:12:45 > 0:12:49Oh, no. That an accident?

0:12:49 > 0:12:54Oh, never mind. Come on, perhaps we had better go and tell her.

0:12:54 > 0:12:55I suppose so.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57Bring it with you. Ho-ho-ho!

0:12:57 > 0:13:00Come on down, dog. That's it. Oh, dear me.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07Ernie, have you come for your birthday surprise?

0:13:07 > 0:13:10I've come to tell you about the birthday cake.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11What, this one?

0:13:13 > 0:13:14My birthday cake!

0:13:14 > 0:13:16You baked me another one.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18You are magic, Shelly.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20Happy birthday, Ernie!

0:13:20 > 0:13:21Thank you, Shelly.

0:13:21 > 0:13:25- I thought you were going to put more fishes on it?- I did.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29What?

0:13:29 > 0:13:32You're right, I'm going to have to get my eyes tested!

0:13:32 > 0:13:36Come on, everybody, who's for birthday cake?

0:13:36 > 0:13:40Now, hang on, that's mine. That one's mine.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Well, Salty, that's it for today,

0:13:46 > 0:13:49we'll see all our friends again next time.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53Oh, and we'll see you next time, as well.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Bye-bye. Come on, girl.
