0:02:10 > 0:02:14No, no, you can't have any, can she? Very bad for dogs, these are.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17The only bit's good for a dog is the hole in the middle.

0:02:17 > 0:02:18THEY LAUGH

0:02:18 > 0:02:22What about your ice creams? Are you selling them as well?

0:02:22 > 0:02:26Oh, yes, Jack, cos the weather's bound to change.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27Look at those seagulls.

0:02:29 > 0:02:34When a seagull dances on the spot, it might be cold, it might be hot.

0:02:34 > 0:02:39- We do have funny seagulls around here.- We do, but they're right.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42In hot weather, folks will want ice cream,

0:02:42 > 0:02:47but in cold weather, they'll want doughnuts, won't they, Salty?

0:02:47 > 0:02:50- Salty?- Salt... She was here!

0:02:53 > 0:02:56- It's not like her to go wandering off.- I've an idea, Jack.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58Salty!

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Oh, there you are, Salty. Jack's worried about you.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06You want one of my doughnuts, don't you, girl?

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Dogs aren't allowed to eat doughnuts,

0:03:08 > 0:03:12but maybe I can weave a little bit of Shelly magic, eh?

0:03:12 > 0:03:14There you are, Salty, eh?

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Jack, why don't you take Salty down to the Rainbow

0:03:17 > 0:03:19and take her mind off doughnuts?

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Oh, yeah, doughnuts, yeah. Got ya.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Come on, Salty, old girl, let's get going. Come on.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28See you later, Jack, and you too, Salty.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43There she is, the Rainbow.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46What have you got for us today, my dear?

0:03:46 > 0:03:48SHE TOOTS

0:03:48 > 0:03:50Hey-hey, come on, Salty.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53# Dee-dee, dee-dee. #

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Here we are.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02SHE TOOTS

0:04:02 > 0:04:07Oh, listen to this boat, will you, Salty?

0:04:07 > 0:04:11It's creaking louder than an old fisherman's bones.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14You're still upset, aren't you, cos you didn't get a doughnut?

0:04:17 > 0:04:21Perhaps I should tell you a tale, shall I? Yeah?

0:04:21 > 0:04:23This will wiffle your whiskers.

0:04:25 > 0:04:31Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:31 > 0:04:33waved goodbye to Whitby

0:04:33 > 0:04:36and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40# Just Salty Dog and me

0:04:40 > 0:04:43# Upon the silvery sea

0:04:43 > 0:04:46# The waves are waving The sky is blue

0:04:46 > 0:04:49# The sun on the water is twinkly too

0:04:49 > 0:04:52# This lovely old boat will keep us afloat

0:04:52 > 0:04:55# Just Salty Dog and me. #

0:04:55 > 0:04:56Ha-ha-ha.

0:04:56 > 0:05:02Ha! Oh, it was so hot. I went below deck for a cold drink.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04"How lovely," I thought.

0:05:04 > 0:05:10Salty is pouring ice-cold water around my feet to cool me down.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17Ice-cold water, round my feet?

0:05:17 > 0:05:20Well, I looked down and bless my lemon sole,

0:05:20 > 0:05:22there was a tiny hole

0:05:22 > 0:05:26in our boat about that big, and it was letting water trickle in.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29The hole was small, but if enough water seeped in,

0:05:29 > 0:05:31the Rainbow could sink.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35I stuck my finger in the hold to stop the water, and it worked.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39But I couldn't stay there all day with my finger stuck in the hole.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42Who was going to steer the boat?

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Salty searched for something else to fill the hole.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Sticky sweets, rolled up rags, knotted nets, plastic bags...

0:05:48 > 0:05:54I even tried squeezing Salty's favourite furry toy into the hole.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56Nothing seemed to fit.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Water was still trickling in.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03And then, Salty had a bright idea.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06She fetched a cork from an old bottle.

0:06:06 > 0:06:12I rammed the cork in the hole and tapped it in with my hammer. Tap!

0:06:12 > 0:06:17At that very cork-tapping moment, whoosh!

0:06:17 > 0:06:22Another even bigger hole appeared in the Rainbow.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24It was about this big.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27And water started sloshing in.

0:06:27 > 0:06:32"Uh-ho!" said Salty, "There's a hole in the rainbow."

0:06:32 > 0:06:34Luckily, our friend

0:06:34 > 0:06:40Percy the pipefish swam up beside the boat and called up to us.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Was I glad to see him!

0:06:42 > 0:06:46"Oh, pipefish, please fix our own leaking boat!

0:06:46 > 0:06:50"If it lets in water, it won't be able to float."

0:06:50 > 0:06:54"That's a serious problem," said Percy.

0:06:54 > 0:07:00"You don't want the Rainbow full of water, not unless you are a fish."

0:07:00 > 0:07:03And then with a swish of his tail and a flap of his fins,

0:07:03 > 0:07:05he darted under the boat... Yeah!

0:07:05 > 0:07:09..and he stuck his long pipe-like head through the hole,

0:07:09 > 0:07:13and at last the water stopped seeping into the boat.

0:07:13 > 0:07:18"There you go," said Percy, straining, his face turning red.

0:07:18 > 0:07:23"I've filled the hole so now you won't sink."

0:07:23 > 0:07:27"You've saved the Rainbow," I yelled.

0:07:27 > 0:07:31I was so delighted I gave him a round of applause like this...

0:07:31 > 0:07:35Wahay!

0:07:35 > 0:07:40And, at that very hand-clapping moment, whoosh!

0:07:40 > 0:07:46Another much bigger hole appeared - about this big.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49Then another hole appeared and another

0:07:49 > 0:07:52and another and more and more.

0:07:52 > 0:07:55Bucket-loads of water gushed in.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59"Uh-oh!" said Salty. "There's a hole in the Rainbow." I shouted.

0:07:59 > 0:08:06Our good friend Charlie the squid swam up to the side of the boat.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08Was I glad to see him!

0:08:08 > 0:08:12"Charlie, oh, Charlie, please fix our leaking boat.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16"If it lets in water, it won't be able to float."

0:08:16 > 0:08:19"I can do it," announced Charlie proudly.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22"We've got lots of holes," I warned.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26"I've got lots of tentacles," Charlie replied.

0:08:26 > 0:08:32Salty and I watched with amazement as Charlie filled the holes

0:08:32 > 0:08:36with tickly tentacles, one after another.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40Until finally, the water stopped seeping in.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44"Job done," he said, slightly out of breath.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47"You've saved the Rainbow," I yelled.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51I was so thrilled, I did a little jig.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54And at that very foot-stamping moment,

0:08:54 > 0:08:57whoosh!

0:08:57 > 0:09:03Another even bigger hole appeared in the Rainbow.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05It was about that big.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09Paddling-pools loads of water just whooshed in.

0:09:09 > 0:09:15"There's a huge hole in the Rainbow, please help us!"

0:09:15 > 0:09:16It was too late.

0:09:16 > 0:09:20There was no point in shouting for help.

0:09:20 > 0:09:26The rainbow was sinking, and slowly we sank under the water,

0:09:26 > 0:09:30and deeper and deeper down under the sea until...

0:09:30 > 0:09:31Bump!

0:09:31 > 0:09:35We'd landed on the bottom of the sea.

0:09:35 > 0:09:40Now, Salty and I, we'd often been at the bottom of the sea,

0:09:40 > 0:09:43many times, but the Rainbow hadn't.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46How were we going to get it back to the surface?

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Just then, we heard a rumbling and a grumbling.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55I peeped out of the porthole

0:09:55 > 0:10:00and realised the Rainbow was resting under an underwater volcano.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03The rumbling sound was the volcano,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06it was about to explode.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08"Hold on to your hats!" I yelled.

0:10:08 > 0:10:13Salty was just about to say that she didn't normally wear a hat

0:10:13 > 0:10:15when, whoosh!

0:10:15 > 0:10:18The volcano erupted.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21And blew us back up through the sea.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23Waaaaheee!

0:10:23 > 0:10:25Crash!

0:10:25 > 0:10:27We landed on a desert island.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32Just as we thought we were finally safe,

0:10:32 > 0:10:36the island started to rise up in the air.

0:10:36 > 0:10:42Up and up and up it went up, and up and up we went too.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44Then, suddenly,

0:10:44 > 0:10:47the island started to speak to us.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49"Hello," it said.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Salty and I looked at each other,

0:10:53 > 0:10:56we'd never heard an island talk before.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00Then we looked over the side of the Rainbow and realised

0:11:00 > 0:11:04we weren't on an island, we were on the back of a whale.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08"Hello," it said again.

0:11:08 > 0:11:13Ha! It was our good friend Bluey the blue whale.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15"Can I help?" he said.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19Salty explained that the Rainbow had

0:11:19 > 0:11:24so many holes that we couldn't sail it back to Staithes without sinking.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27"Oh, oh!" said an excited Bluey.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29He often gets excited.

0:11:29 > 0:11:35"Can I take you home?" "Yes, please," I said.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37So, with the Rainbow balanced on his back,

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Bluey took us all the way home.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45Later, when we got back to our lovely harbour in Staithes,

0:11:45 > 0:11:50We thanked Bluey for rescuing us and we said goodbye.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53Sam Spinnaker fixed all the holes

0:11:53 > 0:11:59and made the Rainbow ready for many more adventures at sea.

0:11:59 > 0:12:05And we all celebrated with a big plate of Shelly's best doughnuts.

0:12:05 > 0:12:10Oops, I wasn't going to mention them. Ooh. Sorry.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26Did you like that story, Salty? Yeah? All true of course.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29Mind you, my stories always are.

0:12:29 > 0:12:30Oh!

0:12:30 > 0:12:33Hello!

0:12:33 > 0:12:34See that?

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Ha, ha. Come on.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50All right, Emily?

0:12:50 > 0:12:55Salty! Jack! Did you fix those holes on the deck?

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Well, no, I thought tomorrow might be a better day for fixing holes,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- you know.- Of course.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Ah, Jack! Salty, I've got something for you.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Dogs might not be allowed doughnuts, but I remember

0:13:08 > 0:13:12- Jack promising you could have the holes instead.- Doughnut holes?

0:13:12 > 0:13:16No, I think Salty might have had enough of holes for one day.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18Not those sort of holes, Jack. These!

0:13:18 > 0:13:22I made them specially, they fit inside the holes of doughnuts

0:13:22 > 0:13:26and they're specially made from good things for dogs to eat.

0:13:26 > 0:13:31Well, thank you, Shelly, now we know what doughnut holes look like.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Look at that! Perfect. Ha, ha!

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Ready? Hole coming up.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Yeah! She likes 'em.

0:13:44 > 0:13:46Well, Salty, that's it for today.

0:13:46 > 0:13:50We'll see all our friends again next time.

0:13:50 > 0:13:51Oh!

0:13:51 > 0:13:54And we'll see you next time as well.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56Bye-bye. Come on, girl.
