0:02:12 > 0:02:17- Oh, all right, Jack? Salty! - Hello, Sam, how's it going?
0:02:17 > 0:02:21No problem, just a simple matter of replacing the bearings,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28- Are you sure you know what you're doing?- Of course I do. Oh!
0:02:28 > 0:02:30BANG! CRASH!
0:02:30 > 0:02:32I'll fix that later. I'm making a list.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35I think Miss Bowline-Hitch needs it back soon.
0:02:35 > 0:02:39- She's very...- Busy-busy?- Yeah, that's what she said.- Oh, dear!

0:02:44 > 0:02:46- Oh, dear!- Is that a problem?
0:02:46 > 0:02:50Well, Jack, to be honest, I'm better with scooters.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52They're simpler.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55Three-wheeled cycles are a bit complicated for me!
0:02:55 > 0:02:57CRASH! BANG!
0:02:58 > 0:03:02- I'll add that to the list.- I think you've got your work cut out there.

0:03:18 > 0:03:23There she is - the Rainbow. What have you got for us today, m'dear?
0:03:25 > 0:03:27Hee-hee! Come on, Salty.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30# Dee-dee, dee-dee. #
0:03:30 > 0:03:31Here we are.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43You settle down there, girl. Poor old Sam, eh?
0:03:43 > 0:03:45She's got a bit of a job on her hands
0:03:45 > 0:03:47fixing that tricycle, you know.
0:03:47 > 0:03:51Wonder if I have any old tools here that she could...
0:03:51 > 0:03:52What's this?
0:03:53 > 0:03:58Bubble mixture. What is that doing in here? Hmm? Eh?
0:03:58 > 0:04:00It's yours, isn't it, Salty? You were...
0:04:00 > 0:04:03You're always losing that. I don't know...ha!
0:04:03 > 0:04:07Do you remember the last time we lost your bubble mixture? Ha-ha!
0:04:07 > 0:04:10That was a bit of an adventure, that was.
0:04:10 > 0:04:14Oh, let me get myself comfortable and I'll tell you the story.
0:04:14 > 0:04:16What are you doing?
0:04:16 > 0:04:20This is going to make your whiskers stand on end, girl. Ha-ha-ha!
0:04:20 > 0:04:25Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,
0:04:25 > 0:04:29waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon.
0:04:29 > 0:04:32And as we sailed, we sang.
0:04:32 > 0:04:37# Just Salty dog and me are sailing on the sea
0:04:37 > 0:04:39# There's many a thing we know we should fix
0:04:39 > 0:04:42# But we prefer trying our favourite tricks
0:04:42 > 0:04:45# Drifting away on a hot sunny day
0:04:45 > 0:04:48# Just Salty dog and me. #
0:04:49 > 0:04:51Now, on this particular day,
0:04:51 > 0:04:55Salty wanted to practise her bubble-blowing tricks.
0:04:55 > 0:04:58She's very good at blowing bubbles.
0:04:58 > 0:05:00I fetched her bottle of bubble mix
0:05:00 > 0:05:03and Salty's special bubble-blowing wand.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05I dipped the wand in the bubble mix
0:05:05 > 0:05:07and then held it up like this.
0:05:07 > 0:05:12Salty then blew a huge bubble.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16I think it must have been the biggest bubble Salty had ever blown.
0:05:16 > 0:05:21It got so big it almost filled the deck of the Rainbow.
0:05:21 > 0:05:25"Oh, that's a real corker!" I said.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29But just as Salty was considering giving up being a sea dog
0:05:29 > 0:05:33and starting a career in the circus...BANG!
0:05:34 > 0:05:37The bubble popped!
0:05:37 > 0:05:41And as it popped, it knocked the bottle of bubble mixture
0:05:41 > 0:05:43over the side of the Rainbow and...PLOP!
0:05:43 > 0:05:45Into the deep sea.
0:05:45 > 0:05:51"Aaaaarrr!" howled Salty. "My bubble mix!"
0:05:51 > 0:05:55And we watched it disappear down and down.
0:05:55 > 0:05:58"Don't worry, girl," I said, "We'll get it back."
0:05:58 > 0:06:02So, before you could say "limboing lobsters"
0:06:02 > 0:06:07we were under the waves in search of Salty's bubble mixture.
0:06:08 > 0:06:11We wandered for a while and we hadn't gone far
0:06:11 > 0:06:14when a very handsome cardinalfish,
0:06:14 > 0:06:17all silvery-greyish with black stripes,
0:06:17 > 0:06:20appeared from a thick clump of seaweed.
0:06:20 > 0:06:23"Hello!" I said, "We've lost a bottle of bubble mixture,
0:06:23 > 0:06:25"you haven't seen it, have you?"
0:06:25 > 0:06:28The cardinalfish twitched his tail
0:06:28 > 0:06:31and swam in circles around the seaweed
0:06:31 > 0:06:34but he didn't say anything, not a word.
0:06:34 > 0:06:39"Perhaps he's shy," said Salty. Mr and Mrs Cod swam by.
0:06:39 > 0:06:41"Bubble mixture?" said Mrs Cod,
0:06:41 > 0:06:44"We haven't seen anything, have we, Harold?"
0:06:44 > 0:06:46"No, dear," said Mr Cod.
0:06:46 > 0:06:49"And it's no use asking Natty, the cardinalfish,"
0:06:49 > 0:06:50Mrs Cod continued.
0:06:50 > 0:06:55"He used to be ever so chatty but he hasn't said a word for days."
0:06:55 > 0:06:57She was right.
0:06:57 > 0:07:01Natty didn't say anything, he just kept twitching his tail
0:07:01 > 0:07:04and swimming around the seaweed.
0:07:04 > 0:07:07"I think he wants us to follow him," I said.
0:07:07 > 0:07:11"Yeah. Come on, Salty, we may come across the bubble mix on the way.
0:07:11 > 0:07:13"Come on, this way!"
0:07:13 > 0:07:14So...off we went.
0:07:14 > 0:07:20It was me, Salty and Mr and Mrs Cod following Natty around the seaweed.
0:07:20 > 0:07:22Round and round the seaweed,
0:07:22 > 0:07:27again and again and Salty was starting to get dizzy!
0:07:27 > 0:07:32"We seem to be going around and round the same patch of seaweed,"
0:07:32 > 0:07:33I said to Natty.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36Well, Natty seemed quite upset by this.
0:07:36 > 0:07:39He twitched his tail more than ever.
0:07:39 > 0:07:43"We need to find our bubble mixture," I continued.
0:07:43 > 0:07:50Suddenly, Natty opened his mouth. "Look in the seaweed!" he blurted.
0:07:50 > 0:07:51He was right.
0:07:51 > 0:07:56Nestled in the seaweed was the little bottle of bubble mixture.
0:07:56 > 0:07:58Salty was thrilled!
0:07:58 > 0:08:00But Natty wasn't.
0:08:00 > 0:08:04As he had opened his mouth to speak to us,
0:08:04 > 0:08:06you'll never believe what happened.
0:08:06 > 0:08:13Lots and lots of teeny, tiny, shimmery little fishes swam out.
0:08:13 > 0:08:18"My fry, my fry, my baby fish! They're escaping!" Natty cried.
0:08:18 > 0:08:22"They're not big enough to be free in the sea yet."
0:08:22 > 0:08:24And then, I remembered.
0:08:24 > 0:08:26A daddy cardinalfish
0:08:26 > 0:08:31looks after his eggs in his mouth until they hatch out into fry -
0:08:31 > 0:08:36that's baby fish - and until they grow big enough to swim in the sea.
0:08:36 > 0:08:41"Oh, dear. Natty was looking after the fry in his mouth," I said.
0:08:41 > 0:08:45"No wonder he wasn't chatty, Harold," said Mrs Cod.
0:08:45 > 0:08:46"No, dear," said Mr Cod.
0:08:46 > 0:08:51Well, the tiny fry were now drifting off in all directions
0:08:51 > 0:08:54like dandelion seeds on the wind.
0:08:54 > 0:08:57"Wahey! We're in the big sea!" they cried.
0:08:57 > 0:08:59"Quick! They're not safe!" cried Natty.
0:08:59 > 0:09:02"I need to keep them in my mouth for a few more days
0:09:02 > 0:09:06"until they're a bit bigger. I don't want to lose them!"
0:09:06 > 0:09:10"We'll help you catch them," I said. "But how?"
0:09:10 > 0:09:13And then Salty's whiskers whistled.
0:09:13 > 0:09:16She was having one of her bright ideas.
0:09:16 > 0:09:19She dashed into the seaweed and grabbed the bubble mix
0:09:19 > 0:09:23from its seaweedy hiding place and brought it back to me.
0:09:23 > 0:09:28"Salty," I said, "this is no time for blowing bubbles."
0:09:28 > 0:09:32But Salty announced it was the perfect time for blowing bubbles,
0:09:32 > 0:09:37so I took out the bubble wand, I held it up and Salty blew.
0:09:39 > 0:09:44She blew out a huge bubble. Her biggest yet.
0:09:44 > 0:09:47And it wafted and bobbled and hovered and wobbled
0:09:47 > 0:09:51and scooped up all the little fry inside it.
0:09:51 > 0:09:55Salty then blew the bubble in Natty's direction.
0:09:55 > 0:09:59"Oh, oh, here they come! My little fry!" Natty cried.
0:09:59 > 0:10:05As the bubble settled over him, he popped it with his nose
0:10:05 > 0:10:12and the teeny-tiny fry all dropped gently back into his mouth
0:10:12 > 0:10:14where they were safe again.
0:10:14 > 0:10:18"Bye-bye!" said the little fry. "See you when we're bigger!"
0:10:18 > 0:10:21Mrs Cod was very impressed.
0:10:21 > 0:10:24"Salty is an excellent bubble blower,
0:10:24 > 0:10:26"isn't she, Harold?" she said.
0:10:26 > 0:10:28"Yes, dear." said Mr Cod.
0:10:28 > 0:10:32Natty, he flicked his tail happily.
0:10:32 > 0:10:37"Salty," I said, "I think that is Natty's way of saying thank you
0:10:37 > 0:10:40"without opening his mouth again."
0:10:40 > 0:10:43And Natty nodded happily.
0:10:43 > 0:10:47Salty gave Natty a nuzzle with her nose.
0:10:47 > 0:10:50She was very pleased that his fry were safe
0:10:50 > 0:10:53and, of course, she was very happy
0:10:53 > 0:10:56that we had found her bubble mixture.
0:10:57 > 0:11:02"Come on, Salty! Time to be getting back to Staithes," I said.
0:11:02 > 0:11:05So, we said our goodbyes
0:11:05 > 0:11:09and before you could say "somersaulting seagulls"
0:11:09 > 0:11:14we were back on board our beloved Rainbow, heading for the horizon.
0:11:14 > 0:11:17As the evening sun shone on the deck,
0:11:17 > 0:11:22Salty practised her bubble-blowing tricks and she didn't stop
0:11:22 > 0:11:25until we were back in Staithes and home again.
0:11:31 > 0:11:35Did you like that story, Salty? All true, of course.
0:11:35 > 0:11:38Mind you, my stories always are.
0:11:49 > 0:11:51DOOR OPENS
0:11:51 > 0:11:55How are you doing with Miss Bowline-Hitch's tricycle, Sam?
0:11:55 > 0:11:57Not good, Jack, not good! How long have I got?
0:11:57 > 0:12:02- Uh, well, I'm not really sure. - Yoo-hoo!- Huh!
0:12:02 > 0:12:08- She's back! Don't let her in.- No. Leave this to me. Come along, Salty.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24Oh, dear. Oh, dear, Salty.
0:12:24 > 0:12:27Miss Bowline-Hitch is not going to be too pleased
0:12:27 > 0:12:30about her tricycle lying in bits in there.
0:12:31 > 0:12:34Well, at least nobody's shouting!
0:12:34 > 0:12:36Ha-ha! Oh!
0:12:36 > 0:12:40- Right, Miss Bowline-Hitch, all sorted?- I'm very pleased.
0:12:40 > 0:12:44- VERY pleased indeed. - Oh, really?- Yes, look!
0:12:44 > 0:12:48My tricycle wasn't ready, so Sam's lent me this marvellous scooter!
0:12:48 > 0:12:50- It's just right.- Of course.
0:12:50 > 0:12:53Now, I really must be on my way. Busy-busy!
0:12:53 > 0:12:54Good luck.
0:12:56 > 0:13:00- Well, that worked out better than I thought it would!- Well done, Sam.
0:13:00 > 0:13:02You made a busy lady very happy!
0:13:02 > 0:13:05Good. I'll have it all fixed by tomorrow.
0:13:05 > 0:13:08- Now, I'd like to make a busy old sailor happy too.- Really?
0:13:08 > 0:13:11Let me buy you a cup of tea at the Mermaid.
0:13:11 > 0:13:15Thank you very much, you're on. Oh, could I do with a cup of tea!
0:13:20 > 0:13:22Well, Salty, that's it for today.
0:13:22 > 0:13:25We'll see all our friends again next time.
0:13:25 > 0:13:30Oh, and we'll see you next time as well.
0:13:30 > 0:13:32Bye-bye! Come on, girl.
