0:01:46 > 0:01:51No, no, no, you're wrong! It's bound to be the doobry-whatsit.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54I think you're wrong, but I'll have another go at fixing it.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57- Hello, Ernie.- Hello, Jack. - Hello!

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Got a bit of a job on your hands, Ernie?

0:01:59 > 0:02:04I certainly have. Behold, Jack, the future of fish selling.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07- It looks like your old fish stall to me.- It is.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09But it's different.

0:02:09 > 0:02:14- Sam and I have built a machine that will change my life.- Oh, yeah?- Yeah.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18If you want a nice piece of fish, say, haddock, just ask me.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20I press a button

0:02:20 > 0:02:24and the haddock is lifted into the air by the doobry-whatsit.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Oojamaflip.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30- And I don't have to bend over to pick it up.- All fixed.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32- I'm not sure this is going to work. - Why not?

0:02:32 > 0:02:36- It's been built by me and Ernie. - My point exactly.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Oh, ye of little faith.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43We needed to just make a little adjustment of the doobry-whatsit.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47- The oojamaflip.- Yeah, whatever. Shall we give it a go?

0:02:47 > 0:02:50What fish would you like, Jack?

0:02:50 > 0:02:54- Well, I was going to ask for a nice piece of halibut.- Coming right up.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57HE CLEARS HIS THROAT

0:02:57 > 0:02:58Oh!

0:03:00 > 0:03:05- It must've been the, er... - Oojamaflip.- ..doobry-whatsit.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07BOING!

0:03:07 > 0:03:10I'm sure we'll get it right a third time.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12You know, I'm going you two

0:03:12 > 0:03:16to work on your doobry-whatsit, oojamaflip problem.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19I think I'll be safer onboard the Rainbow. Come on, Salty.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23You could be smacked in the ear hole by a lump of halibut.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25- I'm losing business! - I'm going to get back.

0:03:25 > 0:03:31DRILLING AND HAMMERING Hit it there. Hit is hard.

0:03:34 > 0:03:41There she is, the Rainbow. What have you got for us today, m'dear?

0:03:41 > 0:03:45There you go, Salty. Let's get comfy.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49You know, I'm not sure Sam and Ernie needed

0:03:49 > 0:03:51a doobry-whatsit or a oojamaflip.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55- What they needed was a, er... - SALTY BARKS

0:03:55 > 0:03:59Yeah, that's it, girl, a watchamaloop.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02Remember when we needed to a watchamaloop, girl?

0:04:02 > 0:04:06That was a tale to get your whiskers wiggling, that was.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10Let me get comfortable and I'll tell you the story.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:14 > 0:04:18waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:18 > 0:04:23Salty and I were spruced up nicely and ready for a day out.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25So we started to sing.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28# Just Salty Dog and me

0:04:28 > 0:04:30# Upon the briny sea

0:04:30 > 0:04:33# Our beards are combed And we're looking good

0:04:33 > 0:04:36# We're the dandiest pair In the neighbourhood

0:04:36 > 0:04:39# Our whiskers are flawless It's hard to ignore us

0:04:39 > 0:04:42- # Just Salty Dog and me.# - HE CHUCKLES

0:04:42 > 0:04:49Suddenly, something rose up out of the water. Whoosh!

0:04:49 > 0:04:52It was Coral Reef's pink submarine

0:04:52 > 0:04:55and there was Coral, holding a loudspeaker.

0:04:55 > 0:05:00"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls," she said.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05Salty let out a whine. "Oh, and dogs, of course.

0:05:05 > 0:05:10"I would like to invite you on a tour of the mysteries of the sea."

0:05:10 > 0:05:15Salty and I howled enthusiastically. We love going on tours.

0:05:15 > 0:05:20"First stop, the invisible squid," Coral announced.

0:05:22 > 0:05:26Ah, it was wonderful, whizzing along under the sea,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30shoals of shimmering fish darted this way and that

0:05:30 > 0:05:32amongst all the colourful, crinkly coral.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35"Look at that, Salty," I said,

0:05:35 > 0:05:40pointing to an extraordinary tree with long, rubbery strands.

0:05:40 > 0:05:45Salty's nose quivered. It had a rather unusual smell.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49Then, all at once, the submarine stopped and out we popped

0:05:49 > 0:05:52near some patterned rocks.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56"Now, watch those rocks very carefully," said Coral Reef.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00So we watched and we saw a shape appearing.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03It was patterned just like the rocks,

0:06:03 > 0:06:06but, it had eight wiggly arms.

0:06:08 > 0:06:13As it came towards us, its colours changed. Ha! Would you believe it?

0:06:13 > 0:06:15It was Charlie the squid.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18"Wow! That's an amazing trick," I said.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21"You look just like the rocks."

0:06:21 > 0:06:27"Yeah," smiled Charlie. "Squids can change colour. Watch this."

0:06:27 > 0:06:30And he' spread himself over the pink submarine

0:06:30 > 0:06:33and, before we knew it, he had turned pink, too.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36It looked like he'd disappeared.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40"Bravo for the invisible squid," we shouted.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42"Time to go," said Coral.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46So we thanked Charlie and we got back into the pink submarine.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51But the submarine let out a splutter.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53And it just wouldn't go.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57"Oh, bother," muttered Coral, tinkering with the engine.

0:06:57 > 0:07:02"Here's the problem," she said, waving a long, rubbery strand.

0:07:02 > 0:07:04"The watchamaloop is broken

0:07:04 > 0:07:08"and watchamaloops are very tricky to find."

0:07:08 > 0:07:11Well, Salty's whiskers started whiffling.

0:07:11 > 0:07:16She nuzzled under my jumper and twanged my braces.

0:07:16 > 0:07:18Ha-ha! "Good idea, Salty,

0:07:18 > 0:07:22"we can use Jack's braces instead of a watchamaloop," said Coral.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24And that's exactly what we did.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26The braces seemed to work perfectly,

0:07:26 > 0:07:30for before you could say "roughy scuttle-fish",

0:07:30 > 0:07:33the submarine was whizzing through the waves again,

0:07:33 > 0:07:35until it stopped and out we popped.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37"And now," Coral Reef announced,

0:07:37 > 0:07:42"I bring you the bravest creature under the waves."

0:07:42 > 0:07:47We looked around for a huge, brave-looking beast, but, instead,

0:07:47 > 0:07:51we saw a tiny red shrimp,

0:07:51 > 0:07:55with a white stripe and long, white antennae.

0:07:55 > 0:08:00"Myrtle, these people would like to see how brave you are," Coral said.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05"No problem," said the shrimp. "Where's Marvin?"

0:08:05 > 0:08:07"Here," said a big shark,

0:08:07 > 0:08:12opening its huge mouth to show off its fearsome teeth.

0:08:12 > 0:08:18"Here goes," said Myrtle, and she wriggled into the shark's mouth.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22Salty, she covered her eyes, and then, would you believe it,

0:08:22 > 0:08:28that little shrimp cleaned all the shark's sharp teeth.

0:08:28 > 0:08:29Wasn't that brave?

0:08:29 > 0:08:33"Ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls and dogs,"

0:08:33 > 0:08:36said Coral Reef in her most teacher-like voice,

0:08:36 > 0:08:39"Myrtle has been in training a long time,

0:08:39 > 0:08:43"so please do not try to clean sharp shark's teeth yourself.

0:08:43 > 0:08:49"It's very dangerous." We clapped so much, my hands felt numb.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51"Bravo", Salty said.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54The last time she had been this impressed

0:08:54 > 0:08:57was when the dog-biscuit factory exploded

0:08:57 > 0:09:00and it rained dog biscuits for three days.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02HE LAUGHS

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Anyway, it was time to go, so we thanked Myrtle

0:09:05 > 0:09:09and we jumped back into the pink submarine.

0:09:09 > 0:09:14But the engine let out a splutter and it just wouldn't go.

0:09:14 > 0:09:18"Bother," muttered Coral, "the braces keep slipping.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22"They aren't as good as a watchamaloop."

0:09:22 > 0:09:28Salty's whiskers whiffled again. She was having another bright idea.

0:09:28 > 0:09:32She rummaged in my bag and brought out her lead.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34"Good idea, Salty,

0:09:34 > 0:09:38I can use your lead instead of a watchamaloop," said Carol.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40And that's what she did.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44It seemed to work quite nicely, for before you could say

0:09:44 > 0:09:45"scuttling spider crabs",

0:09:45 > 0:09:48the submarine was whizzing through the waves,

0:09:48 > 0:09:50past the sunken galleon,

0:09:50 > 0:09:56where the little stripy fish swam and the jellyfish danced the cancan.

0:09:56 > 0:10:02Down, down it went, down it went, until it stopped and out we popped.

0:10:02 > 0:10:07It was ever so dark. We were in the deepest part of the sea.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11"Presenting the underwater fireworks," Coral announced.

0:10:11 > 0:10:18Then, all at once, the darkness exploded into colour.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Beautiful bright swirls

0:10:20 > 0:10:25and showers of kaleidoscopic light danced in the water.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29"They are fish," said Coral. "Luminous fish.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32"They look just like fireworks."

0:10:32 > 0:10:34"Amazing," I whooped.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Salty loved them more than everyone, of course,

0:10:37 > 0:10:40because they weren't noisy like real fireworks.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43It was time to get back to the Rainbow,

0:10:43 > 0:10:47so we thanked the luminous fish and we jumped in the submarine.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50But there was a "blop, blop, blop"

0:10:50 > 0:10:52and the submarine stopped.

0:10:52 > 0:10:57We had the same old problem with the engine - again.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01Salty's lead wasn't as good as a real watchamaloop

0:11:01 > 0:11:03and the submarine wouldn't budge.

0:11:03 > 0:11:07"I'll never get the submarine working properly again,

0:11:07 > 0:11:09"at this rate," said Coral Reef,

0:11:09 > 0:11:13dangling the old broken watchamaloop near Salty's nose.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17Salty's nostrils quivered,

0:11:17 > 0:11:22for she'd smelt that unusual watchamaloop smell somewhere before.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27Certainly, suddenly, she skittered off at top speed,

0:11:27 > 0:11:28her nose in the air.

0:11:28 > 0:11:33Skitter, skitter, skitter, until she reached the extraordinary tree

0:11:33 > 0:11:37with the long, rubbery strands we'd passed earlier.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Coral looked closely at the tree.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45"Well, I never," she said. "It's a watchamaloop tree!

0:11:45 > 0:11:51"Bravo, Salty, now we have a new watchamaloop."

0:11:51 > 0:11:56The submarine worked better than ever with its new watchamaloop. Ha.

0:11:56 > 0:12:00And we were back at the Rainbow in no time at all.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03"Goodbye, Coral!

0:12:03 > 0:12:06"Thank you for our wonderful day," we called.

0:12:06 > 0:12:11And we set off happily, our heads full of wonder.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15Sailing towards the horizon, back to Staithes and home.

0:12:15 > 0:12:16Yeah.

0:12:21 > 0:12:25Did you like that story, Salty? All true, of course.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28Mind you, my stories always are.

0:12:28 > 0:12:29HE CHUCKLES

0:12:38 > 0:12:40HE HUMS A TUNE

0:12:40 > 0:12:46Hello. That's funny. There's nobody around, Salty.

0:12:46 > 0:12:47I wonder if they managed to fix

0:12:47 > 0:12:50their doobry-oobry what's-a-names.

0:12:50 > 0:12:51- Ow!- Ow!

0:12:51 > 0:12:54- Ooh! - Oh, there you are.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56- Problem solved? - Problem solved.

0:12:56 > 0:13:01- We needed to just make a few... - Fine adjustments.- And it was fixed.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05- So can I see it working? - You certainly can.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Welcome to the 21st century.

0:13:08 > 0:13:13- Welcome to the glorious future of fishmongery.- Ta-da!

0:13:13 > 0:13:15What can I get you?

0:13:15 > 0:13:18- A nice piece of halibut, please.- Good choice.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22Notice I do not have to bend down.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26- The fish will come up to me.- Oh.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30Sam, would you like to do the honours?

0:13:30 > 0:13:32Hey! Oh!

0:13:32 > 0:13:35- Oh-oh-oh.- Oh!

0:13:35 > 0:13:39- That's not good. - We're going to have to start again.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42I think fish is off the menu tonight, Salty,

0:13:42 > 0:13:44so I'm going to head over to the Mermaid

0:13:44 > 0:13:48and see what Captain Periwinkle can rustle up.

0:13:48 > 0:13:50- Goodbye, you two. Yes. - BOTH: Bye, Jack.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53Good luck. Oh, dear.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57- Sam! I thought you said you'd fixed it.- I did. Come on.
