0:03:38 > 0:03:39RAINBOW TOOTS

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Hey-hey! Come on, Salty.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Here we are.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58There you go, Salty, you curl up in your bed

0:03:58 > 0:04:01while I sit down and have a rest. In you go, that's a girl.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05Watching you running around has quite tired me out!

0:04:05 > 0:04:10You know, Salty and Ernie racing about like that reminds me

0:04:10 > 0:04:14of the time we went to see the races at the Sea King's Games.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17Do you remember that, Salty?

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Let me get comfortable and I'll tell you all about it.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23This will whiffle your whiskers.

0:04:24 > 0:04:29Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:29 > 0:04:34waved goodbye to Whitby, and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:34 > 0:04:39# Just Salty dog and me upon the briny sea

0:04:39 > 0:04:41# The breeze is blowing from way up high

0:04:41 > 0:04:45# The sun's looking down from his home in the sky

0:04:45 > 0:04:48# We'll call out our names and play silly games

0:04:48 > 0:04:52# Just Salty dog and me! #

0:04:52 > 0:04:57Well, we hadn't got very far when we noticed a long nose with lots

0:04:57 > 0:05:02of sparkly teeth sticking out of it, bobbing in and out of the waves.

0:05:02 > 0:05:08It was our old friend, George the swordfish, and he was in a hurry.

0:05:08 > 0:05:13"Hello, George!" I called out to him. "Where are you off to, then?"

0:05:13 > 0:05:18"The Sea King's Games," he shouted. "I'm hoping to win a medal."

0:05:18 > 0:05:23And with that, he dived back under the water. Sploosh!

0:05:23 > 0:05:27Well, Salty had never been to the Sea King's Games before

0:05:27 > 0:05:30and she thought it was well worth a visit,

0:05:30 > 0:05:35but just as we were setting off, I noticed something on the horizon.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39I had a look through my trusty telescope, and what did I see?

0:05:39 > 0:05:44The Hurly-Burly, and there on the poop deck was the trickiest pirate

0:05:44 > 0:05:47ever to sail the seven seas, Kitty Cutlass.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51"Where be you off to, Jack?" she shouted.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55"We're off to the Sea King's Games to see George win a medal."

0:05:55 > 0:05:59"Medal, hey?" said Kitty with a crafty smile.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02"I think I might join you."

0:06:02 > 0:06:06And so before you could say "jiggling jellyfish", Kitty,

0:06:06 > 0:06:12Salty and I were all under the water on our way to the Sea King's Games.

0:06:12 > 0:06:14We could hear the crowds cheering

0:06:14 > 0:06:17as we headed towards the huge golden stadium.

0:06:17 > 0:06:22Two rather splendid soldier fish let us in, and there we were,

0:06:22 > 0:06:27we'd arrived. The Sea King was there in all his splendour.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31"Welcome to my wonderful Games," he announced.

0:06:31 > 0:06:36"There will be swimming and splashing and diving competitions,

0:06:36 > 0:06:41"and all the winners will receive one of these gold medals."

0:06:42 > 0:06:48He pointed to a large wooden box filled with shiny gold medals.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Kitty's eyes lit up.

0:06:50 > 0:06:55"Gold!" she whispered with a twinkle in her eye.

0:06:55 > 0:07:00Just then, George swam by, and he didn't look happy.

0:07:00 > 0:07:04"Hello, George," I said. "Which competition are you in?"

0:07:04 > 0:07:06"None," he sighed.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10"All the fish in the swimming race are faster than me,

0:07:10 > 0:07:13"all the fish in the diving competition are more graceful

0:07:13 > 0:07:16"than me, and all the fish in the splashing contest

0:07:16 > 0:07:19"are bigger and splashier than me."

0:07:21 > 0:07:24Poor George, he felt very left out.

0:07:24 > 0:07:30He gazed at the box of medals and sighed a deep swordfish sigh.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32HE SIGHS

0:07:32 > 0:07:37Just then, there was a mighty cheer as the fastest fish race started.

0:07:38 > 0:07:43But one person wasn't cheering - Kitty Cutlass.

0:07:43 > 0:07:48She was looking with greedy eyes at the gold medals in the box.

0:07:48 > 0:07:53She had a quick look over her shoulder, and then she sneaked away.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55What was she up to?

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Salty watched her go with a very careful eye.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03The fastest fish race came to an end, and of course Speedy,

0:08:03 > 0:08:05he'd won again!

0:08:05 > 0:08:10George sighed as he watched Speedy whizz across the finishing line.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14"Speedy gets a medal every year," said George sadly,

0:08:14 > 0:08:18"and I've never won once, not once."

0:08:18 > 0:08:21"I wish there was a medal for sawing."

0:08:21 > 0:08:24Now, everybody was looking at Speedy,

0:08:24 > 0:08:29and nobody except Salty saw what happened next.

0:08:29 > 0:08:35A huge net slowly floated down from above and, with a great scoop,

0:08:35 > 0:08:38it grabbed the box of gold medals

0:08:38 > 0:08:41and slowly lifted them off the seabed.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44Who could be fishing for medals?

0:08:44 > 0:08:49Yes, you've got it! Kitty Cutlass.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52On board the Hurly-Burly that was parked right above.

0:08:52 > 0:08:58"I've done it, I got the medals," she laughed. "Now to get away."

0:08:58 > 0:09:02The Hurly-Burly gave a great lurch, and it was off.

0:09:03 > 0:09:07Under the sea, the bulging net was dragged off above the heads

0:09:07 > 0:09:08of all the happy sea creatures.

0:09:08 > 0:09:13Salty barked a bark but we were all too busy listening

0:09:13 > 0:09:15to the Sea King to notice.

0:09:15 > 0:09:20"Ladies, gentlemen and fish," he said grandly,

0:09:20 > 0:09:27"I present to Speedy, the fastest fish, a gold medal."

0:09:27 > 0:09:29He reached down to take a gold medal from the box

0:09:29 > 0:09:32and of course the box wasn't there.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36"What?" he spluttered. "Where are my medals?"

0:09:36 > 0:09:37There they go!

0:09:37 > 0:09:41Salty woofed wildly as she pointed up at the sunlit water

0:09:41 > 0:09:43above our heads.

0:09:43 > 0:09:47"That Kitty Cutlass, she's done it again," I said.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51We all watched on helplessly,

0:09:51 > 0:09:57but then Salty's whiskers began to whiffle.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59She was having one of her ideas.

0:09:59 > 0:10:05She had a quick word in George's ear and his little face lit up.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08Then he shot off, leaving a trail of bubbles

0:10:08 > 0:10:12and a very confused crowd of sea creatures behind him.

0:10:13 > 0:10:18"What is that little sawfish doing?" boomed the Sea King.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22George knew exactly what he was doing.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27The Hurly-Burly was moving slowly through the water,

0:10:27 > 0:10:30as it dragged its heavy haul of gold medals.

0:10:30 > 0:10:35George soon caught up with it. Then, with a swish of his long nose

0:10:35 > 0:10:38and a flash of his sparkly teeth, he started to saw.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43He sawed and he sawed

0:10:43 > 0:10:47through the net until he started to open up a hole.

0:10:48 > 0:10:53And the hole got bigger and bigger, and then, with a huge rip,

0:10:53 > 0:10:58the net burst open and the box of medals floated downwards.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Free at last!

0:11:01 > 0:11:05Up above, Kitty hauled in her net.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07It was empty!

0:11:07 > 0:11:11"Where's my treasure gone?" she howled.

0:11:11 > 0:11:16The answer was "right back where it belonged".

0:11:16 > 0:11:18To the sound of cheering,

0:11:18 > 0:11:21George presented the box of medals to the Sea King.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27The mighty monarch bent down to the box and picked out the shiniest

0:11:27 > 0:11:32and biggest medal. He hung it round George's neck.

0:11:33 > 0:11:38"George sawfish," he said, "this is for saving the medals

0:11:38 > 0:11:45"and saving the day. I present you with a gold medal for sawing."

0:11:47 > 0:11:50Do you know, as he accepted his medal,

0:11:50 > 0:11:54I think I saw a tear in George's eye.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58He was the happiest fish alive,

0:11:58 > 0:12:02and so with the sound of cheering sea creatures in our ears,

0:12:02 > 0:12:06Salty and I headed back to the Rainbow.

0:12:06 > 0:12:12The Games were over, and we were going back to Staithes and home.

0:12:13 > 0:12:17I bet George is flashing his medal all over the place!

0:12:17 > 0:12:19Ho-ho! That was good, you know.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22THE RAINBOW TOOTS

0:12:25 > 0:12:29Do you like that story, Salty? All true, of course.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33Mind you, my stories always are! Ha-ha!

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Come on.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46- Way up!- Wee! LAUGHTER

0:12:46 > 0:12:50It looks like Ernie and Sam have had a change of game, Salty.

0:12:50 > 0:12:55- Hello, Jack!- What are you playing now, Sam?- It's great, Jack.

0:12:55 > 0:13:00- Look, the ball is on a string.- So Salty can't run off with it again.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04However hard we hit the ball, it just goes round the pole.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Watch!

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Oh, no!

0:13:14 > 0:13:18Here we go again! Salty! Salty!

0:13:20 > 0:13:22- Salty!- Salty?

0:13:22 > 0:13:23Hi, Emily.

0:13:23 > 0:13:26Oh, not another race, Ernie.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28- You'll be worn out!- Salty!

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Here she comes. Come on, Salty.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37There's a girl, what a good girl.

0:13:37 > 0:13:41I'll tell you what, Ernie - you keep racing about like this,

0:13:41 > 0:13:43you're going to be as fit as a fiddle.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45Ernie?

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Come on, Salty, I think Ernie has had enough for one day.

0:13:49 > 0:13:50Look at that!

0:13:50 > 0:13:53See you later, Sam. Bye-bye, Ernie.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Bye, Jack!
