0:04:00 > 0:04:04All that talk in the sweet shop about rainbows has got me

0:04:16 > 0:04:20This is going to get your tail twitching.
0:04:20 > 0:04:25Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,
0:04:25 > 0:04:31waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon.
0:04:31 > 0:04:35It was one of those "sunny and rainy at the same time" days
0:04:35 > 0:04:39and a huge rainbow curved across the sky.
0:04:39 > 0:04:42So we sang a happy song.
0:04:42 > 0:04:45# Just Salty Dog and me
0:04:45 > 0:04:47# Upon the briny sea
0:04:47 > 0:04:50# It's up with the anchor and off we go
0:04:50 > 0:04:53# With the sky up above and the waves below
0:04:53 > 0:04:56# We're a happy old pair with the wind in our hair
0:04:56 > 0:04:59# Just Salty Dog and me. #
0:04:59 > 0:05:03Just then, Thelma the dragon flew by.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06"I'm extremely excited!" she cried.
0:05:06 > 0:05:11"I can't wait to get my teeth into that delicious rainbow."
0:05:11 > 0:05:15Now, I don't know what your favourite food is,
0:05:15 > 0:05:18but Thelma the dragon likes to feast on rainbows.
0:05:18 > 0:05:22Crunch, munch, crunch.
0:05:22 > 0:05:24"Whoa! Slow down, Thelma!" I said.
0:05:24 > 0:05:28"You know what happens when you eat too much rainbow."
0:05:28 > 0:05:30But it was as too late.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33Thelma had eaten nearly all of it.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36And do you know what happens to dragons
0:05:36 > 0:05:38if they eat too much rainbow?
0:05:38 > 0:05:40Their wings won't work any more.
0:05:40 > 0:05:45Thelma started to spiral downwards and she dropped into the sea
0:05:45 > 0:05:49where she bobbed around like a scaly island.
0:05:49 > 0:05:53"Oh, dear," said Thelma, with a bulging tum.
0:05:53 > 0:05:56"I won't be able to fly for the rest of the day.
0:05:56 > 0:05:59"My little dragon will be home from school later,
0:05:59 > 0:06:02"I need to get back to Smoulder Island."
0:06:02 > 0:06:06Now, Smoulder Island was a long way away.
0:06:06 > 0:06:11"In that case, we'll just have to find a way to help you fly again,"
0:06:11 > 0:06:12says I.
0:06:12 > 0:06:15"But there is no way," said Thelma.
0:06:15 > 0:06:17"Unless..."
0:06:17 > 0:06:22Thelma explained that right in the middle of the swirling sea
0:06:22 > 0:06:26is an island where the Noodle Oodle bird lives.
0:06:26 > 0:06:30"She's incredibly kind and one of her magic feathers will make me
0:06:30 > 0:06:33"fly straightaway," she said.
0:06:33 > 0:06:38Now, Salty and I had heard of the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:06:38 > 0:06:42We knew that she had a beautiful tail of magical, colourful feathers.
0:06:42 > 0:06:44Well, there was no time to lose
0:06:44 > 0:06:47so we set off at top speed heading south,
0:06:47 > 0:06:51scudding along the waves, feeling the sea spray on our faces.
0:06:51 > 0:06:57And then suddenly, up ahead I spied the whirling of the swirling sea.
0:06:57 > 0:07:02The waves spun wildly like water round a giant plug hole.
0:07:02 > 0:07:06"Giddy gumions, watch out for my bunions!" I cried,
0:07:06 > 0:07:09as the wild, winding wind took us spinning upwards,
0:07:09 > 0:07:14higher and higher, and then spinning downwards, lower and lower until...
0:07:14 > 0:07:15Splash!
0:07:15 > 0:07:18We landed in a little island cove.
0:07:19 > 0:07:21We went ashore.
0:07:21 > 0:07:25There was only one path amongst the fuzzy rainbow trees,
0:07:25 > 0:07:28so we followed it.
0:07:28 > 0:07:30The air was buzzing
0:07:30 > 0:07:35and whirring with the wild calls of strange birds and busy insects.
0:07:35 > 0:07:39And then suddenly, Salty heard something.
0:07:39 > 0:07:45It was the soft Noodle Oodle call of the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:07:45 > 0:07:48We followed the sound through the fuzzy trees
0:07:48 > 0:07:52and found her sitting on a noodly nest.
0:07:52 > 0:07:56"Hello, O glorious Noodle Oodle bird," I said.
0:07:56 > 0:08:00"Our friend, Thelma the dragon, would very much like one
0:08:00 > 0:08:04"of your colourful, magic feathers to help her fly again, please."
0:08:04 > 0:08:09"Oh! Noodle-eedle-oooh!"
0:08:09 > 0:08:11whispered the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:08:11 > 0:08:15"I've been giving away my magic feathers for many, many days,
0:08:15 > 0:08:19"but luckily there's one magic feather left."
0:08:19 > 0:08:22We looked at the Noodle Oodle bird's tail and, sure enough,
0:08:22 > 0:08:28there was just one lonely-looking red feather. All the rest were grey.
0:08:28 > 0:08:32The Noodle Oodle bird said, "Take me to Thelma
0:08:32 > 0:08:35"and she can have my last feather."
0:08:35 > 0:08:37"You are a very kind bird," I said.
0:08:37 > 0:08:41"I'm not looking forward to sailing that swirling sea again.
0:08:41 > 0:08:44"Almost turned our whiskers curly," says I.
0:08:44 > 0:08:47"Don't worry," said the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:08:47 > 0:08:51"If we catch the right swirl, we can fly all the way."
0:08:51 > 0:08:54So we jumped back on board the Rainbow
0:08:54 > 0:08:57and we set off into the swirling sea, didn't we?
0:08:57 > 0:08:58Yes, we did.
0:08:58 > 0:09:02"Hold steady and sail into the next swirl,"
0:09:02 > 0:09:05said the Noodle Oodle bird, and suddenly there was
0:09:05 > 0:09:11a huge swirl right before us and we sailed into it and - whoosh!
0:09:11 > 0:09:15We twirled up and up and up so high that the fluffety clouds were
0:09:15 > 0:09:19all around us and then we floated gently downwards.
0:09:19 > 0:09:21"There's Thelma!" Salty woofed.
0:09:21 > 0:09:26And we landed with a splish gently beside her.
0:09:26 > 0:09:29"Thank goodness you've come," said Thelma.
0:09:29 > 0:09:31"I must get back for my little dragon."
0:09:31 > 0:09:36"I'll help you," said the Noodle Oodle bird kindly.
0:09:36 > 0:09:39"Pluck the feather from my tail."
0:09:39 > 0:09:44And the Noodle Oodle bird offered Thelma her lonely tail feather.
0:09:44 > 0:09:46But it was gone.
0:09:46 > 0:09:49"Oh, dear!" Salty gasped.
0:09:49 > 0:09:53"It must have got lost in the swirling sea," I said.
0:09:53 > 0:09:56"Oh, I'm sorry," sighed the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:09:56 > 0:10:02"I'm afraid I need rainbow magic to make my feathers colourful.
0:10:02 > 0:10:07Thelma sighed. And a little puff of smoke
0:10:07 > 0:10:09escaped from her nostrils.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12It was colourful rainbow smoke
0:10:12 > 0:10:15and looked magical.
0:10:15 > 0:10:18Salty's whiskers starting whiffling.
0:10:18 > 0:10:22She was having one of her bright ideas.
0:10:22 > 0:10:26"Breathe out lots of smoke, Thelma," she woofed.
0:10:26 > 0:10:28So, pfff!
0:10:28 > 0:10:33Thelma puffed and out blew beautiful rainbow smoke.
0:10:33 > 0:10:36It curled and it twirled upwards and downwards
0:10:36 > 0:10:39and all around the Noodle Oodle bird
0:10:39 > 0:10:41and when it cleared, well, ha!
0:10:41 > 0:10:43You'll never believe it.
0:10:43 > 0:10:47The Noodle Oodle bird's tail was a fountain
0:10:47 > 0:10:49of colourful, magical feathers.
0:10:49 > 0:10:52- YODELLING:- "Noodle-oodle-eedle-ooh!
0:10:52 > 0:10:56"You've given me magic feathers!" cried the Noodle Oodle bird.
0:10:56 > 0:11:00"Thank you, Thelma! I can help many people now!"
0:11:00 > 0:11:03Thelma, ha! She looked very pleased with herself
0:11:03 > 0:11:07and what's more, she started to beat her wings
0:11:07 > 0:11:10and she began to rise up into the sky.
0:11:10 > 0:11:14She didn't need the magic feather after all,
0:11:14 > 0:11:17because breathing out the rainbow smoke
0:11:17 > 0:11:20had made her tummy feel lighter again.
0:11:20 > 0:11:24"I'm off to Smoulder Island to my little dragons", she roared.
0:11:24 > 0:11:26"Thank you!"
0:11:26 > 0:11:32"I must fly too! But I will always save a magic feather for youuu!"
0:11:32 > 0:11:34the Noodle Oodle bird told us.
0:11:34 > 0:11:36Ha! And before we knew it,
0:11:36 > 0:11:41she had gone in a flurry of rainbow tail feathers.
0:11:41 > 0:11:43"Well, Salty", I said,
0:11:43 > 0:11:46as we set sail towards the horizon,
0:11:46 > 0:11:51"we've had oodles and noodles of excitement today!"
0:11:51 > 0:11:55And we headed off to Staithes and home.
