0:00:00 > 0:00:03I'm Aaron Craze. This is Pet School.
0:00:03 > 0:00:04Two unforgettable weeks...
0:00:04 > 0:00:07ALL: Ohh!
0:00:07 > 0:00:09Nine pet-crazy kids...
0:00:09 > 0:00:11I'd like a dog.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13I'd really like a scorpion or snake.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15I would like a rabbit.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17And 51 hungry mouths to feed.
0:00:18 > 0:00:22But can Pet School give our nine Pet Heads the skills to become
0:00:22 > 0:00:24responsible pet owners?
0:00:24 > 0:00:26Sit, Kiki, sit!
0:00:26 > 0:00:28And when term's out, will they
0:00:28 > 0:00:31persuade their parents to get them a pet of their own?
0:00:31 > 0:00:32Is he going to get a pet?
0:00:51 > 0:00:53Previously on Pet School...
0:00:53 > 0:00:54Come here!
0:00:54 > 0:00:57..our Pet Heads met their pet buddies for the week
0:00:57 > 0:00:58with mixed reactions.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01Tej and Kiki couldn't get enough of each other.
0:01:01 > 0:01:02Kiki!
0:01:02 > 0:01:05Rachel was surprised at being fond of a reptile.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08If someone had told me to bond with a bearded dragon,
0:01:08 > 0:01:10I probably would have just laughed at them.
0:01:10 > 0:01:14Liam really dug the dogs, but struggled with the poo.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17She did a poo. I am not picking that up.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20So will Liam persuade his mum he's ready for a dog?
0:01:20 > 0:01:23Can Rachel's bond with Brett last the week?
0:01:23 > 0:01:26And will Chris convince star guest, Daniel Roche,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28that goats can make cool pets?
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Day four at Pet School and the Pet Heads are raring to go.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36We've got a humongous surprise in store for them.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38Reena, bring on the guest.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40- Liam's going to be excited. - ALL: Aww.
0:01:40 > 0:01:44- Hello!- What's her name?- Mya. She's come to hang with us for the day.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47- She is a Labrador.- She is. She is three months old.
0:01:47 > 0:01:48ALL: Aww!
0:01:48 > 0:01:50What can we expect from a Labrador?
0:01:50 > 0:01:52Tell us a little about their characteristics.
0:01:52 > 0:01:54They are wonderful dogs, so friendly.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57Can be quite hard work, running around all over the place,
0:01:57 > 0:02:00chewing things. Have to have loads of energy to keep up
0:02:00 > 0:02:03- with these guys.- Thanks for bringing her in.- It is my pleasure.
0:02:03 > 0:02:07We'll get on with the day. Pet Practice, first challenge.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10I'm going to put you into groups, like I always do.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12The first group is...
0:02:16 > 0:02:18..and you are going to be with the rabbits.
0:02:18 > 0:02:23Is that good? Looking forward to that? The second group...
0:02:24 > 0:02:27- with the puppy.- ALL: Yes. - Amazing. You lucky people.
0:02:27 > 0:02:28We have got...
0:02:30 > 0:02:34- ..you are with the amazing stick insects.- Oh!- Oh!
0:02:34 > 0:02:37What's wrong with that? They're are loads of fun!
0:02:39 > 0:02:41Make like trees and leaves!
0:02:45 > 0:02:49Over in the doghouse, three month old puppy, Mya, is looking forward
0:02:49 > 0:02:51to this morning's Pet Practice, a visit from Pet-Spert Reena
0:02:51 > 0:02:53and the Pet Heads.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59Right, you lot, that's 45 minutes to get Mya's chompers sparkling
0:02:59 > 0:03:02and take her for a walk. What a great opportunity for Liam to shine
0:03:02 > 0:03:05and convince his parents he's ready for a dog of his own.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08These little finger brushes, the bristles are lovely and soft,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10so they don't hurt her gums.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13Hold her head in your hands nice and firmly and lift,
0:03:13 > 0:03:17just like that and you need to brush the outside of the teeth.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20With all kinds of puppy training, the most important thing is
0:03:20 > 0:03:23when she does something correctly, positively reinforce it.
0:03:23 > 0:03:27Someone had better stop Mya chewing that brush before she swallows it.
0:03:27 > 0:03:28Loads of like, yes! Well done!
0:03:28 > 0:03:32He's doing well with Mya, but things with Molly weren't great yesterday.
0:03:32 > 0:03:37My gosh! She did a poo. I can't stand it!
0:03:37 > 0:03:40Let's hope Liam copes better with Mya.
0:03:42 > 0:03:46Rachel, Tej and Micah hop along to the stock room to get everything
0:03:46 > 0:03:49they need for a bit of bunny business.
0:03:49 > 0:03:53Full marks it's kept nice and tidy, even if it does whiff a bit.
0:03:53 > 0:03:55RACHEL: It smells!
0:03:55 > 0:03:58It's up to the team to clean out the enclosure and check their tails
0:03:58 > 0:04:03for poo. It gets stuck sometimes, so they need a bit of human help.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07They're Micah's pet buddies, so he should know what he's doing, right?
0:04:07 > 0:04:11Let's start by finding the food!
0:04:13 > 0:04:15I'll grab the rabbit treats.
0:04:17 > 0:04:21Carrot and some leafy greens. Take that and that, thank you
0:04:21 > 0:04:24and I will take the carrots.
0:04:28 > 0:04:30We should actually take the poo out with this.
0:04:30 > 0:04:32No, because that's used for putting food in.
0:04:32 > 0:04:36There was a bit of argument between Tej and Rachel in the food room.
0:04:36 > 0:04:39Tej, you're wasting an unbelievable amount of time.
0:04:39 > 0:04:42How much food to take, what food to take,
0:04:42 > 0:04:44so I just left them to their arguments
0:04:44 > 0:04:46because I did not want to get involved.
0:04:46 > 0:04:47Got the wheelbarrow.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53- I am not looking forward to checking their bums.- Neither am I.
0:04:53 > 0:04:55I don't blame you, mate!
0:04:56 > 0:04:59Giulia, Sam and Chris head over to the stick insects.
0:04:59 > 0:05:01Chris is happy, what about Sam?
0:05:01 > 0:05:04I am scared about going in with the stick insects.
0:05:04 > 0:05:06I am a little cross with Aaron for putting me with them.
0:05:06 > 0:05:10His decision is final, but I am a little cross with him.
0:05:10 > 0:05:15Come on mate, this could be a good time to overcome your sticky fear.
0:05:15 > 0:05:19They may be insects but they still need feeding and cleaning out.
0:05:19 > 0:05:21And remember, insects poo too.
0:05:21 > 0:05:24- I can't see anything.- It is because they blend in the sticks.
0:05:24 > 0:05:27- Down there, right down there. - Where? I can't see it.
0:05:27 > 0:05:28There's one right here.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33- Oh yeah, funny looking fella.- Oooh!
0:05:36 > 0:05:38- I ain't touching one. - Go on, get the food.
0:05:38 > 0:05:41Come on, just go and get the food!
0:05:41 > 0:05:45Sam didn't stick around for long. He really wants an exotic pet,
0:05:45 > 0:05:48so will have to overcome his fear of insects.
0:05:48 > 0:05:49Uurgh!
0:05:49 > 0:05:54- Don't worry. It's a stick... - Insect!
0:05:54 > 0:05:59When I was in Cyprus, I was next to this wooded area.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02I looked at my hand and there was a stick insect right about here,
0:06:02 > 0:06:05all the way up here and it just freaked me out.
0:06:05 > 0:06:07I have been scared of them since.
0:06:07 > 0:06:09This is a chance to overcome that fear, mate.
0:06:10 > 0:06:14Over at the rabbit hutch, Tinkerbell and Daisy are having a good munch
0:06:14 > 0:06:18on the grub that Rachel, Tej and Micah have provided.
0:06:18 > 0:06:19They are so cute.
0:06:19 > 0:06:23When I first heard I was going to be doing the task with the rabbits,
0:06:23 > 0:06:24I actually got a bit excited
0:06:24 > 0:06:27because I could bond with my rabbits more.
0:06:27 > 0:06:30Yeah? Yesterday didn't go too well, did it, Micah?
0:06:31 > 0:06:32Come on!
0:06:35 > 0:06:37OK, let's see.
0:06:37 > 0:06:40Micah does seem a bit reluctant to get hands on with them.
0:06:40 > 0:06:42How are you doing? Oh!
0:06:42 > 0:06:44I think he's doing really well
0:06:44 > 0:06:45because he's not that keen on the bunnies.
0:06:45 > 0:06:49It is really difficult to be enthusiastic and to work hard
0:06:49 > 0:06:53- at something you're not really enjoying.- Don't poo in there!
0:06:53 > 0:06:55Let's hope he doesn't!
0:06:55 > 0:06:58'Luckily, Tej has found the poo and is cleaning it out.'
0:06:58 > 0:07:03It seems like you are just throwing all the sand into...
0:07:03 > 0:07:05I am getting the pieces of poop.
0:07:05 > 0:07:07But you are not doing the sieving action, man.
0:07:07 > 0:07:09Micah, they need the hay or the straw in there,
0:07:09 > 0:07:11so they can sleep well tonight.
0:07:11 > 0:07:14And don't forget you have to wipe their bums, yeah?
0:07:14 > 0:07:16Very important part, otherwise they'll be uncomfortable,
0:07:16 > 0:07:18know what I mean?
0:07:18 > 0:07:20Micah doesn't seem too happy about that.
0:07:20 > 0:07:24How are the puppy posse getting on with Mya, then?
0:07:24 > 0:07:25Mya!
0:07:25 > 0:07:28With the help of some tasty treats, it's time for some puppy training.
0:07:28 > 0:07:31- Well done. Straight away, give her the reward.- Well done.
0:07:31 > 0:07:34Immediately and loads of cuddles. Well done.
0:07:34 > 0:07:36So shall we try progressing? Try her down?
0:07:36 > 0:07:40- Ask her to sit first in front of you.- Mya, sit.
0:07:43 > 0:07:45- Lie down. Good girl.- Well done.
0:07:45 > 0:07:48It's important the minute she did the action, you rewarded her.
0:07:48 > 0:07:51Getting a dog is a big commitment,
0:07:51 > 0:07:53especially when they're pups like Mya.
0:07:53 > 0:07:56If she does a wee or a poo out here, what are we going to do?
0:07:56 > 0:07:57- Congratulate her.- Exactly.
0:07:57 > 0:08:00We make a massive deal of how well she's done.
0:08:00 > 0:08:03- Shall we take her for a little walk around the green?- Yeah.
0:08:04 > 0:08:08I got to say, Liam's doing a good job keeping Mya under control.
0:08:08 > 0:08:09Are you watching, Mum and Dad?
0:08:09 > 0:08:11Over at the rabbits,
0:08:11 > 0:08:14Tej is thinking how he can persuade his parents to give him a dog.
0:08:14 > 0:08:16- You've got a dog, right?- Yup.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18So what do you get out of having a dog?
0:08:18 > 0:08:22You get more than just a pet, you get a companion. You know, a friend.
0:08:22 > 0:08:25And they will try to bond with you
0:08:25 > 0:08:28because they are just really, really sociable creatures.
0:08:28 > 0:08:31Rachel's got a dog already, so why is she at Pet School?
0:08:31 > 0:08:33Here she is with mum, dad and brother Adam.
0:08:33 > 0:08:35Rachel likes playing football,
0:08:35 > 0:08:39reading books, lots of them
0:08:39 > 0:08:42and eating tomato sauce sandwiches. Mmm.
0:08:42 > 0:08:44Being at pet school is going to be good for me because I can
0:08:44 > 0:08:46learn how to take care of my pet properly.
0:08:46 > 0:08:48Properly? What do you mean, Rachel?
0:08:48 > 0:08:50- I have a dog called Bertie. - Hello, Bertie.
0:08:50 > 0:08:54Problem is, I don't actually look after my dog, my mum does.
0:08:54 > 0:08:56Rachel really did like Bertie when he was a puppy,
0:08:56 > 0:08:58but she did seemed to lose interest quite quickly,
0:08:58 > 0:09:00once the novelty wore off.
0:09:00 > 0:09:03It was OK when we first got Bertie. I played with him,
0:09:03 > 0:09:07I trained him, I walked him. But then things went a bit wrong.
0:09:07 > 0:09:12Recently we seem to have just lost that bond and grown apart.
0:09:14 > 0:09:17Just gradually, at first, I found I really had to ask her
0:09:17 > 0:09:20to feed Bertie or take him outside or whatever.
0:09:20 > 0:09:24Whereas before she would have been really eager to do it.
0:09:24 > 0:09:27Yeah, sadly getting bored with a pet after just a few weeks
0:09:27 > 0:09:29is quite a common problem.
0:09:29 > 0:09:32I know I may not look after Bertie as well as I should,
0:09:32 > 0:09:35but I would still really like another pet, like a rabbit.
0:09:35 > 0:09:39The chances of Rachel getting a rabbit after Pet School -
0:09:39 > 0:09:41very slim, I would say.
0:09:41 > 0:09:43So Rachel, how are you going to convince your parents
0:09:43 > 0:09:46that you'll be able to look after another pet?
0:09:46 > 0:09:49If you do it right, pets can be really rewarding things.
0:09:49 > 0:09:52And I am hoping that when I go to Pet School,
0:09:52 > 0:09:58I can learn how to get that same bond back that I had with Bertie.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00Were your parents keen on the idea of getting a dog?
0:10:00 > 0:10:05- Did you have to persuade them? - My mum, yeah, she was, actually.
0:10:05 > 0:10:09- My dad was never so keen on it.- What did you do to make him come round?
0:10:09 > 0:10:12Lots of research, the three of us, me and my brother and my mum.
0:10:12 > 0:10:16The problem is, Tej's dad is a little scared of dogs.
0:10:16 > 0:10:19There was an incident where a friend's dog called Coco,
0:10:19 > 0:10:24about this big, ran inside and I didn't know what it was.
0:10:24 > 0:10:26I said, "Ahh" and I went upstairs
0:10:26 > 0:10:30and the dog tried to come upstairs and I shut my door
0:10:30 > 0:10:32and said "You keep the dog downstairs".
0:10:32 > 0:10:34If you manage to sway your dad who was not keen on getting a dog,
0:10:34 > 0:10:37- then maybe I might be able to.- Get the parent who is keen on dogs,
0:10:37 > 0:10:40- on your side first.- I've got my mum, yup.- Then, just try and show them
0:10:40 > 0:10:43that you can care for a dog. It is a big commitment.
0:10:43 > 0:10:46but it's so worth it if you follow it through.
0:10:46 > 0:10:48Thanks. I think after speaking with Rachel,
0:10:48 > 0:10:51there is hope of me getting a dog because I can show my dad
0:10:51 > 0:10:54I am responsible with dogs and work with them well.
0:10:54 > 0:10:55ALL: Come on, Mya!
0:10:55 > 0:10:59What's not to like about dogs, especially one as cute as Mya,
0:10:59 > 0:11:01but she is working the Pet Heads hard.
0:11:01 > 0:11:02She did a wee!
0:11:02 > 0:11:05Mya's done a tinkle, so she needs to be told how well she's done
0:11:05 > 0:11:07for going outside.
0:11:07 > 0:11:10THEY PRAISE MYA
0:11:10 > 0:11:14Just like Tej and Liam, Sophie would love her own dog.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16I really enjoyed being with Mya.
0:11:16 > 0:11:22I would love a puppy but we need to think about the costs and vet bills,
0:11:22 > 0:11:25but me and my mum both really want a dog.
0:11:25 > 0:11:28Talking about puppies and growing into adult dogs,
0:11:28 > 0:11:30how are things going with Molly?
0:11:30 > 0:11:35- I don't really like her.- Why?- Because she doesn't do a lot of sports.
0:11:35 > 0:11:37Doesn't she? Because when I was with her she was doing
0:11:37 > 0:11:41some really good sits and stays and she looks like she'd enjoy a run.
0:11:41 > 0:11:44If you want to run with a dog, Molly is the one to do it with.
0:11:44 > 0:11:46In there, she does nothing.
0:11:46 > 0:11:48MOLLY SNORES
0:11:48 > 0:11:50Gosh, she has fallen asleep!
0:11:50 > 0:11:52Don't forget, cute as Mya is,
0:11:52 > 0:11:56one day she is going to be a grown-up dog, just like Molly.
0:11:56 > 0:11:59- Yeah, but because she's a Labrador, she won't be relaxed.- You don't know.
0:11:59 > 0:12:02They have their own personalities. She could turn into anything.
0:12:02 > 0:12:06If I had a dog that was really lazy, I'd get a bit frustrated
0:12:06 > 0:12:09because it would be kind of boring.
0:12:09 > 0:12:13The task may be complete, but not good pet practice from Liam.
0:12:13 > 0:12:16He's got to learn to put up with the bad things about pets, too.
0:12:17 > 0:12:21In the reptile house, Sam found himself in a sticky situation
0:12:21 > 0:12:23by having to look after his least favourite insect.
0:12:23 > 0:12:25Do you want to put that in?
0:12:25 > 0:12:28It's not stopping him from getting the job done, though.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30A nice bit of ivy leaf for them to nibble on.
0:12:30 > 0:12:34We could give them a little bit more sticks. Make it look like home.
0:12:34 > 0:12:38These guys like their home a bit moist, so a quick spray.
0:12:38 > 0:12:40Stick that in.
0:12:40 > 0:12:42Chris is feeling confident.
0:12:42 > 0:12:44- Yay!- Put it on your hand.
0:12:45 > 0:12:47- CHRIS:- That is a stick insect.
0:12:48 > 0:12:52- Wow!- It's fine.
0:12:52 > 0:12:54Oh, my goodness me. look at that.
0:12:54 > 0:12:56Touch it.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59Wow! Has everyone had a little touch? Sam, how are you getting on?
0:12:59 > 0:13:02- I ain't touched it yet. - What is it that freaks you out?
0:13:02 > 0:13:04The way they look.
0:13:04 > 0:13:07- Yeah, do they bite?- No. - Isn't that amazing?
0:13:07 > 0:13:11Do you reckon you might want to have a little hold of this?
0:13:11 > 0:13:14- I don't know.- Do it slowly, slowly.
0:13:14 > 0:13:17maybe a little one of these, because they don't jump, look. It's a stick!
0:13:17 > 0:13:20'This is a big moment for Sam.
0:13:20 > 0:13:21'Get in!
0:13:21 > 0:13:24'This is brilliant. Maybe he could get one as a pet...
0:13:24 > 0:13:26'They could become his favourite insect!'
0:13:26 > 0:13:28- Can we get out of here?- 'Maybe not!'
0:13:29 > 0:13:33- 'That's task complete, though.' - Well done, big guys.
0:13:33 > 0:13:35In the rabbit enclosure, Rachel, Tej and Micah
0:13:35 > 0:13:37have still neglected one job.
0:13:37 > 0:13:40Reena's here to get to the 'bottom' of it!
0:13:40 > 0:13:42Right, Mr Buddy, your turn.
0:13:42 > 0:13:44Time to check those bunny bums.
0:13:44 > 0:13:46Use your right hand to hold the front legs and the left-hand
0:13:46 > 0:13:51comes slide down the back and flips up across your body. That's it.
0:13:51 > 0:13:53So where?
0:13:53 > 0:13:55Come on, Micah, you can do it, mate.
0:13:55 > 0:13:58Where are the front legs?
0:13:58 > 0:14:02When it came to my turn, I was a bit nervous. I held it a bit
0:14:02 > 0:14:06and then I lifted it up, but I thought the ribcage was a bit fragile
0:14:06 > 0:14:09so I didn't hold it that much because I didn't want to break any bones.
0:14:09 > 0:14:11I can't help feeling Micah isn't entirely confident
0:14:11 > 0:14:13handling the bunnies.
0:14:13 > 0:14:17You're in the right position now, just roll it against your body.
0:14:17 > 0:14:21I kind of don't want to do it because I can feel the thing,
0:14:21 > 0:14:23but they are quite thin, the bones.
0:14:23 > 0:14:27Time's up. Task incomplete.
0:14:27 > 0:14:29That's Pet Practice done for today.
0:14:29 > 0:14:32Micah's got a long way to go with the bunnies,
0:14:32 > 0:14:34as has Liam with the dogs.
0:14:34 > 0:14:37But Sam's managed to conquer his fear of insects. Sort of.
0:14:38 > 0:14:41Coming up...our celebrity guest gets giddy with the goats...
0:14:41 > 0:14:43Never been charged by a goat before.
0:14:43 > 0:14:45Brett gets the cold shoulder from Rachel...
0:14:45 > 0:14:48It's not the kind of animal I really want as a pet.
0:14:48 > 0:14:51And Liam's got some explaining to do to his mum.
0:14:51 > 0:14:54- I would want you to pick it up.- But I won't be there all the time.
0:14:59 > 0:15:02All week, our Pet Heads have been spending some quality time
0:15:02 > 0:15:03caring for their pet buddies.
0:15:03 > 0:15:04Sit, Kiki, sit.
0:15:04 > 0:15:06Some buddyships have been a massive hit,
0:15:06 > 0:15:09whilst others have missed by a mile.
0:15:09 > 0:15:12Following this morning's Pet Practice with puppy Mya,
0:15:12 > 0:15:15Liam decides to give Molly one last chance,
0:15:15 > 0:15:18although I think it should be Molly giving Liam one last chance.
0:15:18 > 0:15:22Molly, she has become more active now. I didn't know
0:15:22 > 0:15:26she would run around loads and loads.
0:15:26 > 0:15:28It's like I didn't see
0:15:28 > 0:15:33that side of her. I would still like Molly to be more like the puppy,
0:15:33 > 0:15:35that would be great.
0:15:35 > 0:15:38Of course, Molly was once a puppy too and she was lucky enough to be
0:15:38 > 0:15:41loved and cared for by the Lee family.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45When we went to see Molly, she was with four other puppies
0:15:45 > 0:15:47and it was clear from the start that she was a leader.
0:15:47 > 0:15:50She was quite a bossy little dog, so we found that quite attractive.
0:15:52 > 0:15:55In the first week of her life, we almost lost her.
0:15:56 > 0:16:00She got a serious infection in her tummy and it was touch-and-go
0:16:00 > 0:16:03at some stage whether she'd pull through, but luckily for us she did,
0:16:03 > 0:16:05and she's all the more special for that.
0:16:09 > 0:16:12She is bright, bubbly, very energetic, she's quite assertive
0:16:12 > 0:16:15with other dogs, she is excitable, as spaniels are.
0:16:15 > 0:16:19She will do certain tricks, shake her paw, she will roll over
0:16:19 > 0:16:23if you ask to roll over. She likes a tickle on the tummy,
0:16:23 > 0:16:25so you see her go on her back and I think my advice to the children
0:16:25 > 0:16:29would be give her a belly rub because she loves that a great deal.
0:16:29 > 0:16:31Luckily, Molly's come to Pet School
0:16:31 > 0:16:34to help the Pet Heads learn pet care.
0:16:34 > 0:16:37Molly! I can't get her attention.
0:16:37 > 0:16:39Liam's just not getting on with Molly
0:16:39 > 0:16:42and to be honest, that's his fault, not Molly's.
0:16:42 > 0:16:46Oh, my gosh! Molly, sit.
0:16:46 > 0:16:49He really needs to put more effort in, to bring out her best.
0:16:49 > 0:16:54So is Rachel doing any better with Brett the bearded dragon?
0:16:54 > 0:16:57I am really dreading going to see my bearded dragon,
0:16:57 > 0:17:00because I really don't like him and he's so boring.
0:17:00 > 0:17:03I don't want to go and see him.
0:17:04 > 0:17:08It's kind of, the low point of my day now, going to see him.
0:17:10 > 0:17:14Come on now, Rachel, Brett can't be boring all the time.
0:17:18 > 0:17:21It can be quite funny giving him locusts,
0:17:21 > 0:17:23but you only do that once a week.
0:17:23 > 0:17:27And it doesn't really measure up to
0:17:27 > 0:17:32how boring it is, having him kind of sitting there all the time
0:17:32 > 0:17:36not really doing anything and not really trying to do anything.
0:17:38 > 0:17:40Good boy, Brett.
0:17:40 > 0:17:44You can stroke him and hold him and that is pretty much it.
0:17:46 > 0:17:50I do have to clean up after him and again, that's another piece
0:17:50 > 0:17:54of work that isn't worth doing it for the amount you get back from him.
0:17:55 > 0:17:59Is Rachel falling out of love with another pet?
0:17:59 > 0:18:03She did seem to lose interest quite quickly once the novelty wore off.
0:18:03 > 0:18:08Recently we seem to have just kind of lost that bond and grown apart.
0:18:08 > 0:18:12Getting the right pet in the first place is really important.
0:18:12 > 0:18:15That's not the kind of animal that I really want as a pet,
0:18:15 > 0:18:18because, you know,
0:18:18 > 0:18:21interesting as it is, it's just as interesting to read about him
0:18:21 > 0:18:25or look at a photo. Really actually, there isn't that much difference
0:18:25 > 0:18:29between putting a photo of him in the cage and having him in the cage.
0:18:29 > 0:18:31Brett, my friend, I'm feeling for ya.
0:18:33 > 0:18:38Molly's a fantastic dog and Liam just isn't interested.
0:18:38 > 0:18:42I don't get it. He loves Mya but I think that's because she's a puppy.
0:18:42 > 0:18:49Mya did loads of tricks. She learnt pretty fast. She is a fun dog.
0:18:49 > 0:18:53She doesn't always want to just sit down.
0:18:53 > 0:18:56Up, up.
0:18:59 > 0:19:05Sit. Sit, Molly, sit!
0:19:05 > 0:19:08Molly, Molly!
0:19:08 > 0:19:10MOLLY GROANS
0:19:16 > 0:19:19Oh, my gosh!
0:19:23 > 0:19:25I don't think Liam realises that
0:19:25 > 0:19:28this won't help him persuade his parents to get him a dog.
0:19:31 > 0:19:35Over in the ferret enclosure, our furry friends Einstein and Kitts,
0:19:35 > 0:19:38are doing what they do best - sleeping!
0:19:38 > 0:19:43Sophie's here to give them some brekkie and they're waking up
0:19:43 > 0:19:45just in time.
0:19:57 > 0:19:58There we go.
0:19:58 > 0:20:03This is the first time I've managed to feed them. It's really cool.
0:20:06 > 0:20:10When he's finished eating, I hope he stays awake for a bit,
0:20:10 > 0:20:11so I can play with him.
0:20:11 > 0:20:15It's not likely, but hopefully!
0:20:18 > 0:20:19He IS hungry!
0:20:25 > 0:20:30Einstein's asleep and it looks like Kitts is off to join him soon.
0:20:38 > 0:20:41Oh! He's gone back to bed.
0:20:44 > 0:20:46Oh dear!
0:20:46 > 0:20:49They're very fast at getting to sleep.
0:20:51 > 0:20:53Ahh! Sleep well, you two.
0:20:56 > 0:20:59As our Pet Heads are learning,
0:20:59 > 0:21:03owning an animal is a big responsibility. It's when pet owners
0:21:03 > 0:21:06don't take this responsibility seriously that bad things happen,
0:21:06 > 0:21:10both for humans and animals. We call this Petty Crimes.
0:21:13 > 0:21:16Sadly, like Brett, many animals are abandoned.
0:21:16 > 0:21:20This bearded dragon was dumped in a box with four others outside
0:21:20 > 0:21:23a vets'. They were in a terrible state when they came in.
0:21:23 > 0:21:28Each year, around 260,000 cats and dogs are taken into the care
0:21:28 > 0:21:31of UK animal rescue organisations.
0:21:31 > 0:21:35Remember, abandoning a pet is against the law.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38So, it's important to do your research before you even think about
0:21:38 > 0:21:40getting a pet. Can you afford this pet?
0:21:40 > 0:21:46We need to think about the costs and how much, like, vet bills...
0:21:46 > 0:21:49Are you capable of looking after an animal?
0:21:49 > 0:21:52I don't want to hurt you.
0:21:52 > 0:21:54Almost a quarter of pet owners said
0:21:54 > 0:21:56looking after a pet was harder than they expected.
0:21:56 > 0:21:59Are you going to get bored of the pet?
0:21:59 > 0:22:03At Pet School, we're hoping our kids will learn what pet is right
0:22:03 > 0:22:05for them so they can make the right decision.
0:22:05 > 0:22:09Many abandoned animals' stories end well. So if you want a pet,
0:22:09 > 0:22:13why not think about rescuing one so they can have a happy ending too?
0:22:18 > 0:22:21Celebs are always dropping into Pet School
0:22:21 > 0:22:25and our next visitor is Daniel Roche and dog, Peaches.
0:22:25 > 0:22:26All right?
0:22:26 > 0:22:3013-year-old Daniel shot to fame in the brilliant sitcom Outnumbered.
0:22:30 > 0:22:33He then went on to play the starring role in Just William.
0:22:33 > 0:22:37Dog-loving Daniel got Peaches as birthday present when he was four.
0:22:37 > 0:22:40Welcome to Pet School.
0:22:40 > 0:22:45Daniel takes a tour to meet some animals that he may not be used to.
0:22:45 > 0:22:46Are you feeling nervous, Dan?
0:22:46 > 0:22:50Not really, just never been charged by a goat before.
0:22:50 > 0:22:55This one's calmer, but you've got to give that one lots of attention.
0:22:55 > 0:22:56Don't be scared.
0:22:56 > 0:23:00Which one do you want to walk? That one or that one.
0:23:00 > 0:23:03- I'll walk the shy one, please! - Shy one, right here.- Don't worry.
0:23:03 > 0:23:06GOAT BLEATS
0:23:06 > 0:23:09- Easy, easy!- I could use a bit of help here, you know!
0:23:12 > 0:23:16Chris gets on well with the goats, but what pet does he want at home?
0:23:16 > 0:23:19Here he is with Mum, Dad and brother Michael.
0:23:19 > 0:23:23Chris likes bouncing on his trampoline, footy - top skills -
0:23:23 > 0:23:27and rock music. So, what's the score on pets, Chris?
0:23:27 > 0:23:31I used to have a hamster but sadly it died a couple of years ago.
0:23:31 > 0:23:34Since my hamster died, I have been looking for another pet.
0:23:34 > 0:23:36I don't know what, though.
0:23:36 > 0:23:40Ah, but what do Mum and Dad think about having another pet?
0:23:40 > 0:23:44I am a bit concerned in terms of the way he treats his possessions,
0:23:44 > 0:23:47so he's not great at looking after things.
0:23:47 > 0:23:53I would love a sausage dog. Dogs are really cool,
0:23:53 > 0:23:57because when I talk to them, it's as if they know what I am about to say
0:23:57 > 0:23:59and can understand me.
0:23:59 > 0:24:03I think when Chris goes to Pet School he will have to learn
0:24:03 > 0:24:08how hard it actually is to care for a pet. It's a full-time commitment.
0:24:10 > 0:24:13I have got something to prove, not just to my mum and dad,
0:24:13 > 0:24:16but everyone who says I wasn't responsible enough.
0:24:18 > 0:24:24- This one's fast.- You got Pickles, that is good. We ready?
0:24:24 > 0:24:28Remember Pickles likes being walked, but using two leads makes it easier
0:24:28 > 0:24:31for the boys because goats are strong.
0:24:31 > 0:24:36- It's basically like walking a larger dog with horns.- That head-butts you.
0:24:36 > 0:24:39- How does it feel actually walking? - Tougher than walking a dog.
0:24:39 > 0:24:43- Because it's stronger? - Actually, no, I just think it's like
0:24:43 > 0:24:45walking a Great Dane. They pull a bit.
0:24:45 > 0:24:48Especially this one, he thinks he's the boss.
0:24:48 > 0:24:50Primrose is not happy you have taken Pickles out, I tell ya.
0:24:50 > 0:24:52Come on, Pickles.
0:24:54 > 0:24:57That's the boy. There you go. Go!
0:24:57 > 0:25:00- So what was that experience with the goats?- Kind of scary,
0:25:00 > 0:25:02but it was actually kind of good.
0:25:02 > 0:25:05'Thanks for coming in to Pet School, Daniel.'
0:25:08 > 0:25:10Molly, down.
0:25:10 > 0:25:15It's the end of the day and Liam's progress with Molly has been slow,
0:25:15 > 0:25:16to say the least.
0:25:16 > 0:25:20Molly! If she does a poo I am definitely not picking it up.
0:25:20 > 0:25:22Really hate it.
0:25:24 > 0:25:28- Oh, not again!- Spoke too soon, Liam!
0:25:28 > 0:25:32Oh my gosh. Not...
0:25:33 > 0:25:39I am not picking that up. I would ask my mum to pick it up.
0:25:39 > 0:25:43Our lad Liam has flatly refused to pick up poo since day one.
0:25:43 > 0:25:45This is serious so I'm going to get on the blower
0:25:45 > 0:25:47and get Mum in for a chinwag.
0:25:51 > 0:25:53Did you pick it up? You know you need to pick it up.
0:25:53 > 0:25:56That's what happens when you get a dog, Liam.
0:25:56 > 0:25:58I know, I would want you to pick it up.
0:25:58 > 0:26:01I know, but I won't be there all the time to pick it up.
0:26:01 > 0:26:03It will be your dog, your responsibility.
0:26:03 > 0:26:06It is one of the big things about being a pet owner. That is what
0:26:06 > 0:26:10we are talking about, trying to teach you it is your responsibility.
0:26:12 > 0:26:14At the moment,
0:26:14 > 0:26:19where does he stand with his chances of getting his own pet at home?
0:26:19 > 0:26:23At the moment, I think it's a big issue, the fact that he is
0:26:23 > 0:26:28feeling he is not up to clean after the dog.
0:26:28 > 0:26:31Liam needs to think long and hard
0:26:31 > 0:26:34about whether he's actually ready for his own dog.
0:26:34 > 0:26:36He really should get more hands-on with Molly,
0:26:36 > 0:26:38if he stands any chance of persuading his mum.
0:26:38 > 0:26:42Micah's had a bad day too, his problem with touching animals
0:26:42 > 0:26:43seems to be getting worse.
0:26:43 > 0:26:47That won't convince Mum and Dad he's ready for a pet.
0:26:47 > 0:26:52But Sophie's proved she can bond with her buddies the ferrets.
0:26:52 > 0:26:55But which of our Pet Heads will be ready for a pet of their own
0:26:55 > 0:26:57in just seven days?
0:26:57 > 0:27:03Wow! Cannot believe it's the end of another day here at Pet School.
0:27:03 > 0:27:06It's been absolutely crazy, but I can tell you this,
0:27:06 > 0:27:10next time, it is going to get even more exciting!
0:27:10 > 0:27:14Coming up...is Liam changing his mind about Molly?
0:27:14 > 0:27:17Tej has got a very special request.
0:27:17 > 0:27:21Can I please have Kiki as my pet for the next week?
0:27:21 > 0:27:24'And I drop a massive surprise on our Pet Heads.'
0:27:24 > 0:27:29This is tough. Here is your pet buddies for the next week.
0:27:29 > 0:27:32'Not all our kids will be pleased, but some are going to love it.'
